I lived through the last time this country had conscription (for the Vietnam War 1964-1972). It was an immoral war, from the first napalm dropped to the last Vietnamese villagers massacred.

Of course we in Australia didn't execute Australian teenage boys who fled the country or shot themselves in the foot, instead of being conscripted against their will. But we certainly made their lives a total misery

If a war is worth fighting for, teenage boys WILL volunteer.

If a war is not worth fighting for, no amount of conscription or gaol time will win their hearts and minds.
