I guess my brain does not work any more.
Trying to update my avatar, but not having much luck. Here are the steps I am going through:
1. delete existing avatar, by going into edit profile, scrolling to where the current avatar is, checking the box for delete, then click update button at bottom page. At that point, I get the silhouette avatar.
2. Using the blogcatalog edit profile form, click on 'browse', navigate to my new avatar on my PC's desktop, select it.
2a. Click upload on the edit profile form.
3. All I get is a black box where my ugly face should be.
4. Clear all the cache, try Internet Explorer instead of firefox... same result.
A copy of the picture I am uploading is at this link:
www.danallen.com/pics/dog_50x.jpg .
Obviously, I am ignorant and doing something wrong. I am hoping some extra eyes and smarter brains will help me get past this hurdle.
Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions you can offer.
Best regards,
Dan

crpitt, I was so excited reading your post, because it made sense that the problem might be noticed only when avatars are not being resized (cuz bug in software work like that lol). Unfortunately, I made my avatar 51x57, changed the name, reloaded, and same black square result.
Oh well.. maybe it will work if I wait awhile? -
The image you are trying to upload is NOT a jpg. it is a PNG that has just been renamed as a jpg. Try opening the image in a image editor and saving it out as valid JPG. you should get some results then.

OK goodknife! How did you know it was png?!?! :-)
Good call. But seriously, how did you know?
Funny story... when I first made the picture, I set the file extension to .jpg, but did not change the file type. I thought putting the extension would automatically change the file type, but obviously, I was wrong.
How did you figure it out? I am most impressed.
p.s. Size had nothing to do with it, it was all about how the bytes were ordered (file type).
