I noticed very few Myspace icons in the majority of everyone's communities.

Since many bloggers are serious writers, I wonder if Myspace is just seen as an immature site of social teenagers?

I have a Myspace site but haven't the motivation to do much with it.

Myspace is just ugly, in my opinion. My eyes don't generally appreciate me spending long periods of time looking at others profiles. I have an account, but I use it for personal network with people I know, grew up with, family, etc.

I have a myspace. But since my blog needs to be anonymous because of its content I can't associate one site with the the other.

The biggest issues I have on myspace are the contents of the bulletins I receive. I swear people are obsessed with sex, and posts like... "there are a lot of fakes on myspace... if you pass this on you are really my friend." And other monotony I don't want to bore you with. I try to maintain a presence over there as a way to keep contact with friends from school, or even family. But I seldom participate in anything.

The average age of the MySpace user is actually closer to the high twenties and low thirties. They have 70 million unique users per month, believe me there is something in there for everyone.

Myspace seems so complicated to me, and the numbers are overwhelming. My kids say it is often nearly impossible to find people on it. I know a lot of people are having good results marketing on it....but I've just not been able to convince myself to dive in yet. I'd rather hang out here, with the cool people.

What seems complicated about it? I would love to know what you think so I could write maybe an introduction to it on my blog buzznetworker.com.

I write about using MySpace to market yourself or your business on there and other social networking sites. It would be cool to write something to help people get over the fear of using it.

pointless - are you not on facebook? Would love to hear your thoughts on them as opposed to myspace.

I am on pretty much every single social networking site imaginable at this point because I write about them. I like facebook on a personal level for keeping tabs on my close friends but as far as using it to promote something it tough going on there.

I was on myspace in 2004. I left because it was too impersonal. Most people are just trying to get comments on their pages, get the most friends, etc. On a site like this I post about my blog and I get real constructive criticism. On myspace I do the same and I get "nice site. plz comment back!!"

I'm not sure about myspace for marketing either. I had a site back in 2004 and I had a group for it with over 500 people, but I hardly ever got hits from the group. People just joined the group for the hell of it. You can add thousands of people hoping they'll read a bulletin about your site but they usually don't. Well, it didn't work in my case. Maybe I just suck at myspace.

there is a very responsive blog audience on there. it is all the loop that you travel in and where you look

Honestly, I dread looking at other people's myspace profiles because it's like the site was coded by a bunch of monkeys. They still use font tags for crying out loud.

That being said, I think it's a marketing gold mine, especially for a site like mine. I just haven't really figured out how to capitalize on it yet. Hopefully pointlessbanter will have some good advice on this soon

I am working towards the more complex stuff. I think friday this week is the first of the "whoa" posts that really gets into how to find and extract data about where to build an audience.

    Hey Pointlessbanter,

Went to your blog and looked at your article on setting up on Myspace--great job. I'll take another look at it. Though I have to say, it still seems so much easier just to hang out here.

Oh it is easier but I am not getting thousands of hits a day from here, I am from myspace.

I just discovered facebook a couple of weeks ago and managed to reconnect with all kinds of people from my past. Awesome tool for that, not so much for networking, though. It was truly addictive for about a week!

MySpace has always looked kind of like crap to me. I can honestly say I've just never been into it.

MySpace does look like total crap, there is no denying that their coding is week and a lot of people should never be able to design their own profiles.

I have a myspace account, but I didn't include it in my profile here because I haven't used it in a few years. I created the account initially because my sister and her friends were really into it and were using it instead of email, but I never liked it that much and now that my middle-school daughter's friends are popping up with myspace pages, it's just too creepy. (My child will NOT be joining them any time soon!)

I have about 4500 friends on MySpace - many of whom are readers of my science fiction novels - so I can't complain...

I just passed the 500 "friend" mark. I say friend in quotes because I don't even know a single one of them lol
