My first hate blog

Topics: blah blah blah, mean people suck
Have you ever had someone write a hate blog about you? What do you do when it is not even factually accurate and slanderous? If it is just some stupid blogspot blog do you bother to pay your attorney to get involved?
How do you deal with it emotionally? I know that what I am doing is a bit different, and that I am always going to be under the microscope...but I didn't realize it was going to make me feel THIS bad.
Help!

Lemme at 'em!
No seriously, what's going on?
All I get is hate mail, I don't think anyone has devoted a blog to me yet
-
-
Oh my gosh I actually clicked on that!
Someday maybe there will be
ihatedoctornicole.com
Then I will KNOW I am the next Dr. Phil of the internet!

Depends on how much damage it could cause. Most likely none, so I wouldn't bother yet.
Don't feel badly. If I let lies people on the 'net have told about me affect me, I'd be even more cranky than I am now. -
Gosh, I'm sorry to hear this, Nicole. Even if they don't agree with your perspective, you seem like a nice person.
There are a lot of really angry people out there. The online medium seems to give them some license to let loose.
I don't know what I would do if it were me. I guess it depends on how potentially damaging to one's career and practice it could be. -
Sorry to hear that, Nicole. If the blog in question is attacking you by naming you and/or your site and writing inaccurate or false statements, then by all means go after them. I'd start by contacting Blogger/Google to report the blog, and go from there.
Emotionally, it's hard to deal with, I agree. You must feel very frustrated, to say the least. Don't let the weasels get you down. There is always someone out there who is going to take issue with what you say or do, especially when you/your site becomes popular and successful. -

I believe MadameX will probably weigh in and warn you to speak of this only to your legal counsel, rather than discussing details that could jeopardize your position later on public forums like this one or, by responding by posting comments with regard to the inaccuracies on their blog.
That being said, I'm with Anok -- lemme at em! -
YA - Lemme at em -
Time to be quite and see what you can do legally - You really do not want to jeopardize yourself...
You OK Nicole? -

Controversy sells. This might make you feel bad if you let it get to you but from a traffic standpoint, you may have struck gold.
Now, if I could get someone to write a hate blog about me, that would be great

The best advice I can give is: "Outta sight outta mind". Don't visit the blog. If it's in your hit counter, don't visit it. Unless your real name points to this site via Google, ignore it. People who lie about others online are worthless and not worth your time. If you don't make a big stink about it, they'll move on, because they want a reaction.
-
While it's true that flamewars bring in mega hits do these professionals (co-authors) want their blog to feature that kind of action? I think not.
@medicated
That's good advice. I think you are quite right. They want a reaction so don't give it to them on their blog.
However, any libelous statements that pertain to one's profession and reputation IMO ought to be discussed with an attorney.-
Unfortunately on the internet you have to give a lot of specific information before it's libel. For example, if I said John Smith is a doofus and I dislike his cat, too, that's not enough information or incriminating enough for me to be sued. But if I went into deep details, posted pictures, or personal information, yeah, I could be sued. I've been down this road before.
I googled kitchentablemedicine.com and nothing but the actual site came up, so who ever this person is, they aren't even important enough to be in google. Which is really...sad. -
LOLOLOL...thanks medicated that really cheered me up. And thanks for looking out for me. Really appreciate it a million times over!
Wasn't sure what to do with this kind of thing. I figured that being a "snake oil salesman" on the internet I would deal with some heat eventually. Just didn't expect someone to be so angry over nothing.

I had over 32 written about me in over three months on MySpace at one point.
It is fun and good times.-
I've been tempted to start a hate blog about pointlessbanter.net myself.
-
Let's all write a hate blog today about pointlessbanter.net I think it would be rejuvenating!
Frankly, I am still mad over that sex in the city debacle.

You do alternative medicine. I don't get what to hate about that. My fiance almost died taking a prescribed medicine. I did make a post about the brain transplant thing but that's a scratch your head and think thing.
-
I had hate posts made about me and I just enjoyed the promotion. In the end bad publicity does bring in traffic
I'd say just ignore. If you ignore, they'll see it's not worth it. If you get into their "game", then it's messy. Some battles are not worth winning

We've already talked and I think settled this issue a bit about why people have to be so mean...especially ones who self hate.
It's up to us to allow others to get to us or not. As bloggers I think we should have to take an oath to develop thick skin and realize we are putting ourselves out there for anything. I learned that the FIRST day in BC. LMAO! OMG...what a greeting I got! But the imperative word is that I have learned.
We love you so much, Doc Nicole! You're our superhero here and always will be. -

Doc, if no damages to you are involved, just laugh at at the whole thing, wear it as a badge of honor. You know what "they" say about imitation: the sincerest form of flattery. (Actually, no, it's stalking that is.) This is much like imitation. Goofy things like this happen to me every now and then. I just laugh, then ingnore, forget and move on.

I had a death threat once, I was disturbed by it. It wasn't really personal though. I had posted Castenada's Path with a Heart and a fundamentalist took it as an opportunity to hate...it was more about his inabillity to see goodness in himself

DocNicole: I think I found that blog. If I'm correct, the comment you left was magnificent. You handled the situation so well. Your response made me want to go right back to your blog(even though I already think it's great) and read more of what you had to say and I think anyone else will feel the same way.
-
I DID find that blog. (My husband always says to me that there ain't nothin' I can't find out) Apparently, through no fault of their own, the person appears to be a bit unstable. My unprofessional opinion. I say this after having read a little bit more of what the individual's writings contained.
Nicole, your rather lengthy, yet very professional AND diplomatic response should have done the trick. It showed compassion and empathy. You, in fact, appeared to "do no harm". Go to bed and rest easy - Nards
