Guess what guys!?!

My mom saw a ghost today.

Weird huh?

She said she was folding her laundry and she saw a guy in black walk past her.

She said his face was all blurry like, but she could clearly see the pattern in his cloths.

She said he was in a hurry, but she could tell he wasn't a friendly spirit.

Anyone else have encounters with spirits?

Friendly and/or Evil?

Do you know of anyone who has had such encounters?

Well, I know that these "encounters" are merely projections from our own minds, at best...the result of an electrical spasm in the brain. (Hubby's speciality is neurobiology--the structure & functions of the brain.) I also know that a lot of people want or need to feel like their "special," that they have "psychic powers" or have been visited by "aliens," etc., etc. Still nothing more than electrical spasms in the brain, though...

I can't imagine we KNOW everything about the brain... I believe we are being to egocentric if we believe that our "dimension" is the only one that exists. I also know that there are people who are truly intuitive a.k.a. psychic - it's not a blip. Blips would be random and inconsistent - these people are not.

I have felt a presence – but never seen anything… I have a friend whose house is haunted. The original owner comes through on occasion. He’s friendly enough, so she’s ok with it.

I would have to side with newward on this one.

I have heard many accounts of spirit encounters.

I myself had my first encounter this last summer.

      Creepy really.

Not much more than a feeling of a presence though.

Point & Case - My mom had to sell her family home because she had a stroke and she needed the money to pay her hospital bills. This home had been in the family for 50+ yrs. My grandmother died in that home. The people that bought the house were going to flip it. They started to remodel and they said they could feel a certain female spirit. This was before they knew anything about our family.

They start to strip the point on a couple of french doors in the dinning room, and the spirit bugged them so much that they were unable to finish the renovation on those doors. Apparently some time before that, the woman (we think to be my grandmother) was bugging the husband while he was trying to do his work to the house. The interesting thing was, he hadn't told anyone about it for the longest time. Then, his wife had a couple encounters and told her husband about them. It wasn't until then that they started to ask questions about the house and who had lived there

well my brain must spasm a awful lot I don't have a great deal of faith in alien theory however I am wise enough to know just because I haven't experienced it for myself doesn't mean it is not true.....I am not all knowing so I am not going to stand in a position of "I know" because fact is I don't know I can assume I can throw up 20 scientific facts but unless I was the person involved or shared the experience I am merely guessing even a neurobiologist cannot stand in front of me and say I know it is not true what you experienced how can you know for certain you can't you are throwing up scientific facts based on data that is collected to disprove a certain point of view....and even if someone came to me and I believed that they didnt see a ghost but wanted attention I would be more inclined to let them be heard and try and been non judgmental

How does he explain spirits that tell you what is to be expected?

My grand mother, who lost her mother when she was only a little girl, was told by her mother's ghost, that she should not get married quite yet, as her disabled younger brother would die in 6 months time. She waited for 6 months, and true enough, the brother died in 6 months, after which she married my grand father. That was not to be expected by any other reason, as he was supposed not to live past 4 years of age, but died at 25.

Years later, she suffered a heart attack, and we were all convinced she would be dying. She said she wasn't, as she was told she would see her grand daughter (me) start at school. She passed a year after I started school.

If those are spasms, the accuracy is quite interesting.

I had an encounter with what some people call a "Familiar spirit". I thought I was just having a very bizarre string of luck that was leading me down a new path but my spiritual friends think otherwise.
I never actually saw the spirit though.

I've had two encounters with 2 spirits of folks related to me - one that essentially changed my life. I've also experienced not-so-friendly spirits, but never saw them. The latter experience caused a group of us to move from an awesome house we had at the end of our college years. It literrally drove us out.

      Watch it!

      Grrrrr...
  5. mattiasx
I've had spurts where my eyes have played tricks on me, but never to the extent where I actually thought I saw something.

Perhaps something was actually there, whether you believe in the supernatural or not.
  6. amtelemarket
I never saw a spirit, never saw an alien, never saw an UFO... even though I've always had my mind pretty open to all of that,
  7. Theresa111
Yes. As a small child I saw people who had past out of our realm.

it might be ghost in mind, but in actual, this is not true. sometimes we imagine something and our mind make a picture of that, so might be that wud have happened with your mom.
no, i have listened many times from others that ghost exist but they doesn't came in front of me ever.
if came then i will surely write about that
    1. ethanre
u can write about it, if it happens in www.psiforums.com

I have had enough strange experiences to wonder how people can never have them. I'm not cracked (as yet) and don't go out of my way to look for other worldly experiences. I think your mother's experience was very interesting because I have come across people from different cultures who have had similar ones, which encouraged me to read and think about these apparitions.

    To each his own.

I drank some good spirits, also had experiences where a good spirit turned bad, the technical term being a "hang over"

      Naughty Katarokarr.
  12. roentarre
I believed in all the supernatural beings.
  13. nadzri68
To me this is realistic..Just because we dont see things doesnt mean they are not there.I know few people who encountered this .Believed in coexistence.
  14. ethanre
i would LOVE it if you could share your ghost stories on this discussion site, eventually many more people will join in with their stories: www.PsiForums.com Thank you and I think I saw ghosts when I was a kid. I agree, just because we don't see things or can put them in a test tube doesn't mean they are not there. Maybe we simply just are not ready/advanced or able to see.
  15. acousticguitarist
Sometimes they are really just a part of ourselves.

However in your case don't be surprised if she hears of a death in about 3 days. And I'm not trying to be morbid. I often see people's ghosts just before they die or a few days later
    1. acousticguitarist
Your mother IS highly sensitive and you have inherited that sensitivity also from you your grandmother
    2. ethanre
Is there something that a person like me could do in order to see a ghost? How do i deal with fear?
    3. ethanre
My grandmother saw ghosts, could see events from afar, and also encountered other weird things.

I get the sensation of something, but never see anything.
    4. acousticguitarist
Why would anyone want to see a ghost? you don't have a choice really

Although you do have the ability to deny experiences.

My name is not Gerry The Gypsy, this is red panda wisdom and you'll have to sort through the serious stuff and work out when I am joking.

Really though, anything to do with the psychic should not be forced but should come as a natural process. With this sort of stuff, a lot of people are suffering from mental disorders. Psychic phenomena is what I call the extra-natural, something that is a natural part of life and is there for the taking if we want it. But I consider it to be a major sidetrack in getting to the heart of things.

And as the old Sufi Masters used to say, when people start seeing other beings and hearing them, they are real but never tell a madman.

I've had a number of encounters, one of which I had previously described in BC. I addressed them, blessed them, and did a release, followed with a banishing according to my tradition. They disappeared with that, the atmosphere warmed, and nobody reported further trouble.

I believe in the paranormal. In fact my latest post is about Christmas and ended up being a thriller. Please check it out:

Why is it that in stories where people claim to have seen ghosts they often seem to be:

    Wearing long gowns
    Have long flowing hair
Always flitting AWAY from the viewer like they are frightened
    1. acousticguitarist
not so in my case, one guy just before he died was wearing slipers, pyjamas and dressing gown
    2. LynneaUrania
Actually, the last encounter was that of a male and female oriental couple. They wore the garb of cooks and did not have long flowing hair. They didn't flit away when I talked to them but probably stayed a good 10 minutes till I released them.
    3. acousticguitarist
and what did they make for lunch?
    4. LynneaUrania
They weren't there making lunch. They were looking over the establishment and didn't like what they saw. The woman was about 3 feet away from where my pallet was on the stage (it had been turned into a theater club). The initial chill of the atmosphere during such encounters is immediately unsettling. And seeing someone unexpected stand next to you can be unnerving if one isn't accustomed to it.

The new season of Ghost Hunters International just started on Wednesday nights on the Sci Fi Channel. Very well done show -- an offshoot of the original Ghost Hunters/TAPS show. No trickery involved, unlike Travel Channel's Most Haunted. Check it out.
    1. Dukepro25
I like the TAPS version better, but the International one is good too.

There is no good scientific evidence for ghosts or spirits. It is all anecdotal. The claims depend on eye witnesses, personal experiences, the same type of claims that are common of theists.
  22. bladeaxe4
    it's a common thing !
    1. bladeaxe4
want some fierce ones to encounter you, hehe !
  23. msbaby
I wonder why there are not more of them? Why so few hauntings per city or state?

I'm not being snarky, I have also had a few unexplainable experiences in a home that was reported to be haunted. I've just never seen a ghost.
  24. Dukepro25
We have a Ghost at our work that likes to play with our MP3 players and the intercom and stuff. Interesting
    1. LynneaUrania
Really? Does ghoulie-poo have preferences that you have found?

I can just see a ghost arguing with my boyfriend on what music to put on. That would perhaps get his mind on spiritual things. I just might ask if I can borrow your ghost for a few days.
    2. Dukepro25
      Yah - Actually.

He really likes Keith Urban for some reason.

Whenever I bring my MP3 player, he plays like 5 Keith Urban songs in a row and at least a dozen if not more for the four hours we're there.

Whenever my supervisor brings his MP3 player, the ghost all garbles it up and he has to go reset it.

One time the Garden service announcement went off. "Service in the Garden Center. Service in the Garden Center." The funny thing... Those have all been disabled for years. There wasn't a button to turn it off, so we left it running all night.

      Kind of creepy.
