I am very busy at work each day, but I am coming home in the evenings to an empty house and to endlessly bad television programmes. The children are busy with their own lives and the loyal labrador died some months back of old age

What do other people do in the evenings, to cope with any boredom and loneliness that they might be feeling?

I am on my own every night of the week except Saturday. Have been for 4 years.

    I prefer it this way.

I enjoy my hobbies and do my own thing.

The Internet is useful for alleviating lonliness. Join some forums about things that interest you perhaps?

I have re-watched every Dalziel & Pascoe, Taggert, New Tricks, Prime Suspect, Waking the Dead, Silent Witness etc programme that has been produced since 1980.

Now might be the time to make the blog posts either longer or more frequent.

I am never alone. But If I were I would go out shopping with out the family and actually enjoy a quiet dinner out, take my time looking at stuff that I like. Go see a movie, go see friends

I have sex with random strangers, write, drink myself into a stooper, paint, go to bed early, catch up on reading, call a friend, get online and catch up with the world, paint my nails, listen to music and take a bath, cook some good food, ask my neighbor if they want to share a fag outside, watch a movie.....

    Tons

I'm in the same boat. My husband is away on business this week. He gets back tomorrow. He will also be on business for 2 weeks in January. I have been hanging out with my family some, but mostly I've been alone. I have been getting some work done, but I really miss him. I have been making myself drinks consisting of rum and apple juice, which helps a little. I am too lazy to go to the supermarket for a bottle of wine, so I whipped up what I had on hand, lol.

calais, I agree...sometimes you just have to fill up the void.

Now that the weather is gorgeous, I might do lots of swimming. Swimming will also expend all that excess energy.

Set a goal or a dream of something real big like a business and start working toward it. A Journey of a thousand mile begin with one step.

My husband is away for two days. I love it and hate it. I'm lonely and cold, but like the change of routine. Wine is good and I've removed some wallpaper, something I was meaning to do for awhile! I listened to a radio program that I haven't listened to for years.

OK, I have worked out what works. Lots of swimming, even more blogging, and a hefty whiskey and ice before sleeping. The bloke will get a really warm welcome home, when he arrives here during the week

Socialising without partner is interesting, Theresa. I didn't think I would enjoy it.

But my women friends invited me to some Breakfasts With the Sisternood. Bless them.

When my b/f is travelling I kick back and read a book, sometimes accompanied w/ a corona
Make a random call to someone whose not expecting one for some time, take a bath, listen to some music... hmmm it is actually pretty hard now that I think about it!

You need new friends and hobbies. Try a platonic social group such as a writing group or movie club. Or maybe take a class or join a yoga studio or gym. At home, you can organize things, rent movies, blog, write, paint, take photographs, call friends, write letters. Maybe its time for a new puppy?
