      You're not disrespectful, but you do have a point. "whenyouhost" appears to be for the Singapore market only; it's a niche and in order to make it to the first page on Google searches, the easiest method is to choose a niche. Remember, "whenyouhost" or "Affsphere Article Marketing" are valid product names that people may very well search for, so regardless of "obscurity" this is still quite an achievement.

      Niche is good, I've got some great searches sorted. There's three I'm working on at present and they are creeping one page at a time every week, getting close to page one. Some searches were taking 15 minutes to get to the top on some great keys, but google has changed in the past three weeks. It's constantly shifting and not sensible to rely on google as the only strategy for traffic

      You're right. There's more sources than Google to generate traffic. For my own blog, highlighting the differences in functionality between WordPress and Typepad, I've found the wordpress.com support forum en.forums.wordpress.com/to be a gold mine in generating incoming traffic. It all depends on your blogging niche.

      I have been PR1 on childhoodspeech since I started. But that's cus no one else is doing it. So not one to phone home about.
      
      Now, there are close to 1000 threads and my pages appear on the first page.
      
      However, for specific pages of my articles, google does not rank this. For this you have to make effort on forums, social sites and search engines etc.
      So I would go with the traditional forms of work to be visible, as acoustic and tpsvsp have explained.
