Was planing on capturing the neighbor wasting a lot of money on fireworks, but before midnight some northern lights appeared in the sky.

Lucky you! I have always lived on the very lowest border of being able to see them, so it has been many years. I remember once as a teenager seeing them out my window and then spending hours outside watching them.

I remember them being blue and red, I think. Looks like yours were yellow?

Usually green here, but it can have other colors too.

      Thanks

Well, you can start imaging things when you stare at them for a long time.
Remember stories from my childhood that we shouldn't wave white tissues at them because they would come and take us away.
You could see the lights coming closer when you waved the tissue

Is that a Nordic old wifes tale
    3. jungl
Something like that or a sami folk tale.

i used to hate it in India when they let off fireworks at celebrations, the noise would drive me crazy. Then I found out it's symbolic of destroying all the old negative thought patterns, and it didn't sound so bad after all.

Thank you for sharing that. It is just beautiful. What a nice thing to be able to view on New Years Day. If I wave a white tissue in front of the computer....? Wow, that would make an interesting SciFi movie...

    Happy New Year!

This is something I have always wanted to see ... I may be taking a trip to northern Alberta next spring, I'm hoping I get lucky.

Wow! That must have been awesome. I've always wanted to see the Northern Lights.

That is a nice picture .. The Northern Lights from our point of view usually turns out to be a mixture of orange and 'icy' blue/white. I used to see it all the time when I lived in the rural part outside Winnipeg, but now the city lights hide them. We still see them visiting our relatives who live outside the city

Hmm, wonder why we have such different color or maybe I'm color blind?

The ones I saw on Prince Edward Island were greenish and red.

Manged to get a couple of pictures of some man-made fireworks too.
