Heres a little test that I think will be interesting, when you see a list of blogs anywhere do you go because of the blog name or the blog design.

On my blog is 30 blogs each listed with just the names of the blogs or a picture.

What you have to do is leave a comment about what name would make you want to click through to have a look at the site, don’t choose blogs just because they are friends. Do the same for the picture part

In your comment leave a 1, 2, 3 of what blog you would visit.

I will track clickthroughs from the blog and track them for a week or so then do a post on the results. The results will be combined from part 1 and part 2 in a future post.

Leave a comment here or on the blog.

After 1 vote it appears readers can go against free domain names, what do you think?
    1. XIII
I think you need more votes.
    2. crkian
lol, its just started they will come, thanks for the votes.
    3. XIII
Oh, and I do agree, I tend to steer clear of the freebies as well. Dates back to the Geocities days, mehe.
    4. crkian
I remember the geocities days, you don't see them mentioned very much now.
    5. husdal
Oh yes, Geocities :-) My first attempt at making a homepage :-) Good ol'days!
    6. crkian
Wasn't that back in the days of compuserve
    7. kopidunia
Dunno. Signed up with them in '97. Well, the web has come a long way in 10 years. Can't imagine a life without it now...

It's hard to be unbiased. I see lots of blogs I have visited before and like reading, so I'd go to those ones first.
  3. crkian
    Try to be unbiased.

Its interesting that clicks are showing differently to the voting.

Hmmm... maybe I'm nitpicking, but you didn't list blogs by name, but by URL. I think that's a whole different ball of wax.
  5. crkian
I could remove the url part, but you do see a lot of places listing blogs or sites like this.
    1. Unfettered
Indeed. I said it might be nitpicking

It's entirely up to you, of course, being your test. I personally tend to not use listings that show URLs, because I find them annoying to parse, visually. That's just me.

At any rate, I'm interested to know what you find.
    2. crkian
Its interesting to see that there is more clicks to just the link names than the pictures so far.

Your right about viewing lists like that. But I do get the free domain names showing which has caused a few reactions.
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
They could be clicking on the link names more, though, just because it's presented first-- then just don't bother with the other half of the test.

That's my guess, anyway. I know order of the way things are presented make a big difference in scientific testing.
    4. crkian
It may be right but I wanted to seperate the 2, it will still draw up some interesting readings Im sure.
  6. dpivans1
Just finished your test. That was interesting. I definitely need an interesting name to draw me in and make me want to go check it out. But, when it came to visual...I think I picked totally different blogs. Hope this helps you.
  7. crkian
Thanks very much, interesting that one blog is picked out nearly everytime.
    1. jungl
      Yep!

Been regretting my domain name a few times
    2. crkian
lol, I think yours is more visual unless you go for the male knitter one.
  8. acousticguitarist
it would be interesting what response you'd get if you changed the order
  9. crkian
Or hid any names showing on the pictures
    1. acousticguitarist
i didn't see the names, were there names?

I thought the instruction was to look at the designs
  10. PetLvr
I tried not to pick mine . it was hard hehe ... // Answered both tests!
  11. crkian
Thanks, I removed the extra one that you hit enter by mistake on.

Time for some sleep. Going to have to work at this one with the stats and that.

Thanks for all the votes so far and long mat it continue
  12. dharmagypsy7
I voted... interesting test and curious to find out the results.

p.s. I Sphinned the first post so if anyone wants to sphinn it if they have an account... that would be great
  13. Snowlark
Interesting ... opposite reactions to either form for me. Clicked on names yet not on the images of the same ...
  14. ModelElaine
    I only clicked on images
  15. crkian
    Thanks all, and morning

damn compuserve. that brings back memories. how ghetto was compuserve
  17. crkian
I liked compuserve, well certain places on there. The chatrooms were just full of muppets.
  18. crkian
Got some great looking graphics that show clicks, these could also be useful for advertising.
    1. acousticguitarist
these looks like a small version at what turns up at the polling booths sometimes

      we call them tablecloths
    2. crkian
They dont look to bad, may have to make them bigger though.
  19. Snowlark
Sheesh - these remind me of those alternative light source shots of keyboards. You know the ones that show where all the GERMS ARE on your keyboard?

OK, or, maybe a bit CSI-like and ... well, you get the picture. (pun intended)

    1. crkian
Now you mention it I have seen detol adverts that look the same
