Well we decided to update the blogcatalog blog to focus more on the community, you can check out the updated design here:
blog.blogcatalog.com/
The cool thing is that the background image will update every 24 hours based on recent viewers so it will never be the same from day to day!
WE NEED YOU!
We are opening up the blogcatalog blog to all of our members. If you have an idea for a post we want you to share with the community! All we ask is that you keep it relevant to blogging, social networks, blogcatalog, or even the community in general...
We are going to keep an open mind so as long as you can make it relevant and keep it PG-13 we would love to have you participate!
HOW DO YOU SUBMIT A POST?
If you have a post ready, all you have to do is set up an account at:
blog.blogcatalog.com/wp-login.php?action=register
Make sure you use your BC username. One you are registered just e-mail us at webmaster@blogcatalog.com and we will update your wordpress role so you can post.
Once your account has been approved/updated you can post at your convenience.
We will be reviewing the posts manually and publishing them every few days or whenever they come in.
I think that with all the collective creativity we have on BlogCatalog its going to be a fun experiment in bringing the community together!

Yes I too say pointlessbanters face one too many times on the page. It is too busy in the background....you cant read any of the text, and the same pics repeat over and over.
I didn't make it past reading jargon fish bc I decided to count how many times the guy in the fishing hat was on there -
who the hell are some of those people? More folks that never say a word in the forums. LURKERS!!!! And yet they get their photo on the site. (pounds fist into desk).
This....will not stand man...this agression...will not stand!

Making the background slightly transparent would probably look better.
It also repeats a bunch - looks very web 1.0
The community aspect is great and all but it just doesn't look right =/ -

Hi 9
I've had a look at the script. JargonFish
tried a few things but pulled the script back out of Wordpress hosted blog.
didn't see much going on. The pdf said add script to header, Yes? And add script to where you want it on the page.
.... could you be really specific because I tried adding the script between the header open and closed ...the whole script and then also tried it as a standard widget.
No go, so I pulled the scripts out
What am I doing wrong, whhat should I see?-
you may want to contact jargonfish about this, they would have a better answer than we would:

I have a headache now - from the background. It sounds like a good idea .. it really does - but, it's not a good idea - at all.
(i.m.h.o.)-
Well .. maybe if the content pixels were 14px or 16px it wouldnt' be so overwelming and hurtful to the cornea
But - I couldn't even finish reading the first two posts without having to "X" out the window.
Oh - and, I'm not sure I would feel any different if I saw my caricature face there either .. in case anybody was wondering
-
sorry ..
but, it takes away from the content .. and too focused that makes my eyeballs swish back and forward. I don't think it's soothing ..
Do other BC'er really like it? or, just like to see their face in the background? I guess that answer would probably help direct what type of content you should have. -

What do you think?

Just posted draft. Hope it's okay to include links. One suggestion--use a graphic within the blog post. I took a shot of my laptop screen with the discussion board page showing, and resized it, but didn't see a way to upload. Graphics or photos within the post really break up the text, imo. Also wasn't sure about Technorati tags or share codes, but those would give you a little more bang (maybe you already got that covered within BC, but wanted to mention it.).Thx. Kay
