Discussions

I know we have a mix of veteran bloggers and new folks here, but for folks who are new or struggling to keep blogging, I just wanted to offer a little encouragement...

I think patience is really key to building your readership.

And I know once you launch, it's really exciting to imagine all the visitors flocking in. And then when that doesn't happen right away, it can seem really discouraging.

But hang in there. Keep blogging. Blog consistently and make your audience aware of your schedule. And be patient.

Google takes time to find your site. It will also take time to index you. It'll take 3-4 months before pageranks come around again. So it's definitely a waiting game.

Continue to put out quality content. Make friends and offer relevant comments to fellow bloggers. And add more of that patience...

And I think you'll be happy with how things go.

Now that's sweet. Thanks TSR and I'm sure all the newbies feel the same too!

Well, I'd hate to think of someone giving up on what could be a really great blog...

just because they thought they were in a virtual room talking to the walls--

when actually they just hadn't given it enough time.
    2. alexmcone
Well IMO when they get on BC they probably wont.
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
I don't know-- I've heard a few people indicate they were frustrated.

Hopefully they get enough support to make an appropriate decision about whether they want to be blogging or not.

    Sigh,
Patience is the first song I dedicated to my girlfriend now wife. I had to have patience because she was with this other guy when I met her. I know I know,, Off topic.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
      It's a good story, though.
  3. sdk1988
It really is true "patience" and continue to ask questions of those that are willing to give answers - there is a great resource of blogging forums too! I encourage all to read and participate
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Absolutely! I know I've gotten a few technical questions answered here I never would have been able to figure out on my own.

So yes, new folks with questions-- asking is the best way to find out. Someone will usually be along pretty quickly to help.

Who's Axel Rose? Is he like that John Chow guy I keep hearing about?

    1. RTBjr73
Lead singer of Guns'N'Roses...jeez girl, how far up north are you in Canada?
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
I think the smiley face with tongue sticking out betrays a joking DrowseyMonkey....

      At least I'm hopin'.
  5. crpitt
Follow the way of the ninja, it worked for me.
    1. RTBjr73
      Clair, is that you?

      That's a hot pic!!!
    2. DrowseyMonkey
@RTB - I know who he is .. I was trying my hand at humour,

Clair! I didn't recognize you either. LOL You and Olga look so fine together.
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
      What? Who's that? Who's there?!

Hey, are you a ninja or are you a Druid?
    4. RTBjr73
      @DrowseyMonkey = smartypants

      Love always,
      RTBjr73
    5. ThriftShopRomantic
OHHHH, that's a bra on her head... of COURSE... SILLY ME... why wouldn't it be undergarments... ? What was I thinking?
    6. DrowseyMonkey
      She does look rather druid-like.
    7. crpitt
Its not a bra! I am a ninja.

      (okay its a bra)
    8. ThriftShopRomantic
Well, er, I'm sure ninjas need foundation garments, too...
    9. crpitt
      Its a very supportive organisation

Thanks for the motivational speech. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can said the little train.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
      Way to go, little train.

TSR...What an awesome discussion and one with encouragement.
Yes it is important to have some patience and determination to continue in anything that you have a passion for. If you need some time off, do so and then come back with full speed ahead.
That's how I usually do it but you should know your limits.
Making a comeback is key if you feel a little down.
Shift the mind to obey your passion, having a passion for what you do is a key too.
And have some fun with it, laugh and take nothing too serious.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Definitely blogging about something you're really passionate about is key. If you spend time brainstorming topics and it's something you love, you'll rarely go dry for a post idea.

      All good tips, Jeunelle!

A new blogger should strive to be like Dr Mark Sloane he is good to his patience but if one commits a murder he has no qualms about exposing his heinous misdeed to the appropriate authorities.
What I am saying is treat your blog like a potential murder suspect, no hang on, treat your blog like a chronically sick....just listen to what Thrift says.
Forget about the misleading Dr Sloane allegory, it seemed promising when I started it, but it quickly veered off into the realms of the misleading.

      Newbies- Aardvarks are mostly harmless.
  9. CreativeJunkie
I wish I was better at being patient, but I'm one of those instant gratification ladies and it's hard to be patient!

But when I got into this, I got into it for the long haul and I knew it was going to take time to build up traffic and loyal followers.

I find it ironic the amount of time I spend teaching my daughters the benefits of patience when I have not one iota of it myself.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
I know I had moments of paranoid blogging-- bloganoia?-- when I started out because I wasn't sure if my blog had technical problems, or if people really were just not interested.

(Turns out I had technical problems!)

But I'm glad I hung in there. I hope you'll do the same. With a name like CreativeJunkie, though, it sounds like you won't be stopped once you get going.
    2. RTBjr73
Everyone loves the babe from Pittsburgh!!!!
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
Heh-- I'm soooo glad it's not the Ron Jeremy avatar saying that.
    4. kdawg68
I thought that was "Ron the man" but didn't want to ask.
  10. kdawg68
oh thanks, Jen - now this song is stuck in my head!
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
      It's Patience...

      Just wait it out.

You can whistle in the middle of it, too, while you wait. HAHAHA.
    2. aningeniousname
Horses can't whistle they don't have the lips for it, that's why Lauren Bacall said "You know how to whistle don't ya Steve? You just put your lips together and blow" To Humphrey Bogart and not Sea biscuit.
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
Yeah, but Bogart had sort of a long face, lots of teeth, and no lips, too...
    4. aningeniousname
Good point maybe that's why Lauren decided to ride him.
    5. ThriftShopRomantic
There goes that aardvark again, scaring off the new folks.
