So after the bazillionth time my iWeb program crashed while loading to .Mac, I got fed up.

I have a lot of material on my .Mac site, and I don't want to lose it.

But my blog was also nested IN that site, and making quick updates has been really cumbersome and annoying due to the quirks of iWeb and .Mac.

So I decided to create a Blogspot blog which I can update more easily, and just link to it within my existing site.

My concern is that because the interfaces are a little different, people will feel confused.

This is my main site:

web.mac.com/thriftshopromantic/iWeb/

And if you click on the main home page feature, or the words "Weekly Blog" in the side navigation, it will take you now to here:

thriftshopromantic.blogspot.com/

Could a few of you guys take a look? Anyone have any recommendations for how I can make this more clear to my visitors?

It's a good idea. I about fell over when I saw how quickly everything uploaded using Blogger, when I spent 10 hours yesterday just trying to get the same content uploaded with iWeb/.Mac.

Blogger is easier. I've fiddled around with iWeb recently, and I just don't find it satisfactory for blogging. Blogger's commenting system drives me crazy, but that hasn't been your thing anyway.

I would announce the site update and move completely, once you're satisfied with where you are. You might also follow Dane Morgan's suggestion to me: If you move the site completely, then you should just leave a title on your old posts, maybe with a short blurb, and then link to the new one. Strip out the rest of your links. If you're not sure about the solution, maybe avoid pinging Google et. al. with the new site till the matter is taken care of.

One suggestion. Blogger is easy, but have you also looked at WordPress.com? It's not as easy to customize, and they want a small fee to let you use custom CSS. But I mention them, because many of their templates also let you add additional pages to your blog, like you did on Mac.com. Before you roll your eyes, note that WordPress.com can import Blogger blogs. You just might have to strip out a copyright footer Blogger adds.

Whether you use Blogger or WordPress, you should also check out a wonderful little blog editor for the Mac called MarsEdit at www.red-sweater.com/marsedit/ . I do most of my posting with it, though I sometimes use Blogger's interface with images, just to get the spacing right. Blogging doesn't get any easier, and the developer is responsive.

I'll take a look at both Wordpress and the editor you've mentioned-- no eyerolling necessary.

I think today I will simply just do an endzone dance over the fact that my content is finally uploaded and people aren't getting broken links anymore to content filled with errors.

Your comment there is irrelevant. I've known Jenn here for quite some time. Quit hijacking her thread for a squabble. Help or don't. Easy.

One other thing, Jenn. Since you're making this move anyway, have you thought about buying a custom domain now? You can easily use it on Blogger (or WordPress.com or whatever). There has got to be a thriftshopromantic dot something available.

Actually, I already have one I've been using with my own site. Only Google wasn't following it through to .Mac to index my pages. It will only see a .Mac site with the .Mac root URL. That was another fun issue I was facing about a year back.

Ha, thanks, Thomas. It was the right sort of weather for crazy-patterned Wellies.

Quite a tree. Your new blogger site looks good. Congrats.

Thanks, Libdrone for looking-- It was one of those panicked construct-a-page-in-a-few-hours sort of jobbies so I absolutely had NO perspective on it.
