I completed another painting today; a tricolored (aka "Louisiana") heron in a marsh. Inspired by a photo I took at a local state park.

Where does your creative inspiration come from?

Very nice painting. I always envy those who can recreate what they see by hand. Unfortunately I can not draw, paint, watercolor, or even stick figure. But, I can write. I find my inspiration from every day life and imagination.

You look like Sharon Stone. Writing is painting with words.

Thanks. Actually it's a myth that people can't draw, paint, etc. Anyone could do it with some training & practice. My husband's a writer, too. He posts some interesting stuff about the craft on his blog, if you're interested; charlesgramlich.blogspot.com

Dont want to ruin it for you... but its not her...

Like the heron and like I said in the comments. You took your time painting the details of the bid. Nice!

I look like Sharon Stone? Haha, thanks, I haven't heard that one before.
    2. LGramlich
Thanks. Actually the photo that inspired the painting was like that, too. The heron was in sharp focus & all of the surrounding marsh grasses were kind of hazy. But where do you get your inspiration?

I think you have a great palette. I like the tranquility of the piece. I would add more variety in the background as it moves from front to back...it looks a little flat. You can accomplish this by changing the application of the paint, the size of the grass, or the intensity of the colors (lighter in the background, more saturated in front). Don't touch the bird - he's perfect!

Thanks. It's exactly how I wanted it, though. So what inspires your creativity?

Lana, I like it very much. I left a comment.

Your most recent entries seem to be somewhat darker in tone than older ones. Is that because Halloween is coming?
    2. claudiorodval
No... not darker... they are unfinished pieces... just sketches and I always sketch with a darker color... when I finish any of them they will seem as bright as any of my finished pieces
    3. LGramlich
Ah...I see. Looking forward to the finished products.

Hi Lana, well I think you know that I am pretty much inspired by wildlife most of the time but this will extend to domestic animals too.
Oh and occasionally it is fun to paint fairies and dragons, lol
I do like to have reference material for my realistic works tho.
Wonderful job on the heron. The focus is entirely on him as it should be and he is beautifully executed You can tell that you look at them, really look at them from your work...
I love that air about them as they slowly wade though the water one step at a time, it is like they are on tippy toes
    1. LGramlich
Yes, it's cool watching them move...so slow & deliberate!

Inspiration? From inside. From doing. An inane thought comes to mind. Juxtapose? How about "posetajux"? Why not use that? How would I use that, draw that? Just draw it. Doodle. Heighten a mark. Add a color.
Write the word in reverse. Draw a quick self-caricature. Me, the artist, pen in hand, cigarette trailing smoke from the ashtray. Do another? No? Maybe I'm 'posed to jux it. Junk it. Draw a moon-rise.
Over a junk yard. The artist kicking aside a crushed can. Drawing again.

I like you work. I see artists who can concentrate, I am at times briefly motivated to return to figure drawing. Join an artist/modeling class. But don't. And write that down. And draw again. A life. An artist.

What an inspirational answer. Sometimes I think I get too complacent, myself.

I inspire myself on life... the way I feel, the way I live, the way I perceive the world around me. Check out my blog if you wish to do so. I paint with words.

      Very nice.

I like the way you captured the heron's solitariness, its aloofness. I think of herons that way.

My inspiration mainly is the desire to say something memorable. An image or phrase that sheds a little light.
    1. LGramlich
That's a good motivator, of course.

Your painting reminds me of rambling around at the shore and suddenly seeing a heron or other less common bird - there's that moment when we would elbow each other, signalling to shut up and watch - that first moment of sighting; you've caught it exactly for me.
    1. LGramlich
That's more or less how it happened for me. Hubby & I were strolling along a boardwalk through a marsh & he grabbed my arm to stop me--the heron was right in front of us (& I was so busy taking pix of other things I never even noticed it!)

I did another heron painting on the piece of canvasboard I'd cut from the original. I was inspired to reuse the extra piece, rather than just throwing it away.

Lovely painting! I keep pretending that I can paint and end up fingerpainting the floor or something.
    1. LGramlich
Thank you. BTW, you CAN paint. All it takes is a little training & some dedication.

My inspiration usually comes when I am feeling a bit low or even depressed and sad.
Oddly enough - I have read that the best works of art, the best poetry, hymns and books have mostly been written by people who know what pain is - emotional and/or physical.
    Love your painting.
    1. LGramlich
Thanks. I hear where you're coming from, but on the other hand, if you can introduce me to a person who doesn't know what pain is, I'd love to meet them.

My inspiration comes from just paying attention to how crazy people are, especially those who gravitate toward me--they're like a cloud of flies, and I'm like a big steaming pile of...creativity.

Oh, and I abuse alcohol and drugs...that helps.
  17. fazrul
it comes through seeing..and from experiences i guess..
  18. petalmaker1
Oh yes, but you have missed the point or perhaps I did not make it clear - not everyone in pain has talent.
And just a note to everyone - DO visit Fazrul's work - his talent is actually scary it is so awesome!
