Topics: new acrylic painting bird birding waterfowl tricolored louisiana heron lana gramlich art
I completed another painting today; a tricolored (aka "Louisiana") heron in a marsh. Inspired by a photo I took at a local state park.

Where does your creative inspiration come from?

Very nice painting. I always envy those who can recreate what they see by hand. Unfortunately I can not draw, paint, watercolor, or even stick figure. But, I can write. I find my inspiration from every day life and imagination.

Thanks. Actually it's a myth that people can't draw, paint, etc. Anyone could do it with some training & practice. My husband's a writer, too. He posts some interesting stuff about the craft on his blog, if you're interested; charlesgramlich.blogspot.com

Like the heron and like I said in the comments. You took your time painting the details of the bid. Nice!

I think you have a great palette. I like the tranquility of the piece. I would add more variety in the background as it moves from front to back...it looks a little flat. You can accomplish this by changing the application of the paint, the size of the grass, or the intensity of the colors (lighter in the background, more saturated in front). Don't touch the bird - he's perfect!

Hi Lana, well I think you know that I am pretty much inspired by wildlife most of the time but this will extend to domestic animals too.
Oh and occasionally it is fun to paint fairies and dragons, lol
I do like to have reference material for my realistic works tho.
Wonderful job on the heron. The focus is entirely on him as it should be and he is beautifully executed
You can tell that you look at them, really look at them from your work...
I love that air about them as they slowly wade though the water one step at a time, it is like they are on tippy toes

Inspiration? From inside. From doing. An inane thought comes to mind. Juxtapose? How about "posetajux"? Why not use that? How would I use that, draw that? Just draw it. Doodle. Heighten a mark. Add a color.
Write the word in reverse. Draw a quick self-caricature. Me, the artist, pen in hand, cigarette trailing smoke from the ashtray. Do another? No? Maybe I'm 'posed to jux it. Junk it. Draw a moon-rise.
Over a junk yard. The artist kicking aside a crushed can. Drawing again.
I like you work. I see artists who can concentrate, I am at times briefly motivated to return to figure drawing. Join an artist/modeling class. But don't. And write that down. And draw again. A life. An artist. -
I inspire myself on life... the way I feel, the way I live, the way I perceive the world around me. Check out my blog if you wish to do so. I paint with words.

I like the way you captured the heron's solitariness, its aloofness. I think of herons that way.
My inspiration mainly is the desire to say something memorable. An image or phrase that sheds a little light. -
Your painting reminds me of rambling around at the shore and suddenly seeing a heron or other less common bird - there's that moment when we would elbow each other, signalling to shut up and watch - that first moment of sighting; you've caught it exactly for me.

I did another heron painting on the piece of canvasboard I'd cut from the original. I was inspired to reuse the extra piece, rather than just throwing it away.

Its all about my paintings and illustration as well..thank you for gave us a chance to view your art! -
Lovely painting! I keep pretending that I can paint and end up fingerpainting the floor or something.

My inspiration usually comes when I am feeling a bit low or even depressed and sad.
Oddly enough - I have read that the best works of art, the best poetry, hymns and books have mostly been written by people who know what pain is - emotional and/or physical.
Love your painting. -
My inspiration comes from just paying attention to how crazy people are, especially those who gravitate toward me--they're like a cloud of flies, and I'm like a big steaming pile of...creativity.
Oh, and I abuse alcohol and drugs...that helps.
