Hello - I am new to blogging and I'm finding the whole process a bit overwhelming. Posting, commenting, Twitter, Stumble, BC, stats, friends, following - do this, don't do that.
I feel the best way to learn is through others' experience.
What is your best tip for a newbie?
Thank you...
Mark

It's impossible for me to give you a single meaningful tip on how to improve your blogging, and/or on how to improve your blog, without visiting you blog and doing a thorough review of it, and also assessing what you do and don't know.
I have a blogging tips blog that encompasses beginner blogging tips and tips for mire advanced bloggers. If you click on my username you will find the link to my blog on my BC Profile Page.

I'd like to suggest that you visit my blog and locate posts on the subjects that interest you. If you need additional help with any specific areas I suggest that you post threads into blogging help that clearly state what you need help with.
I don't know me how old your blog is and what you have done so far to attract traffic but I'll try to give you some useful advice.
Blog Catalog delivers targeted readers to blogs not just a flood of indiscriminate traffic that creates a high bounce rate. Targeted readers are far more likely to:
----read more than one post when they visit;
----become faithful readers;
----leave meaningful comments that expand your knowledge base;
----become subscribers;
----recommend your blog to their friends.
Traffic promotion advice
(1) Write well and publish regularly. Keeping your blog updated with fresh and informative content will maintain reader interest.
(2) Reply to every comment.
(3) Link to your faithful readers' related blogs and keep your blogroll updated.
(4) Be aware of your subscribers and subscribe to the feeds on their related blogs.
(5) Comment, comment, comment and comment on other blogs in the same niche as your own.
(6) Backlink to posts published by faithful readers wherever possible.
(7) Learn basic SEO and structure a reader and search engine blog. In blogging content is king and marketing is queen. If you write high quality original content on a regular basis and promote it then the result may be an increase in organic traffic, or not. If it’s not easy to locate your content in search engines then there will be no increase in new traffic. onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2009/08/04/basic-seo-elements-for-bloggers/
(8) Use a Blog Catalog Recent Comments widget to showcase those readers who leave the most recent comments.
(9) Encourage your blog readers to comment

(10) Use a Frequent Commenters widget to showcase those who leave the most comments.
(11) Join social networks and create relationships. Promote your own blog and support the promotions of the blogs of your faithful readers at every opportunity that you can and everywhere that you can.
(12) Use twitter, friendfeed and other other Free RSS directories to promote your blog posts.-

Definitely visit other blogs, as nothingprofound said. It'll introduce you to a lot of interesting blogs and the interesting people that work on them. BlogCatalog is great for this - you can meet people, which will draw people to your site, and form friendships that can lead to link swaps and other kinds of promotion (or at the very least, comments!).
I too have found timethief's site VERY helpful, so you can always refer back to there in case you need additional help! -

Welcome to the blogging world
I focus on one thing at a time. For example: I'll work on flickr for a few days and once I am comfortable with it and know how I can use it for promoting my blog I move to the second step. It works for me and that way I am not all over the place.
Good luck!-
I feel it helps to be relaxed about it and not assume you have to do a-z in a day to get things moving right away. I find that once I start laying on the pressure of what I must/should do to get my blog/sites moving, I immediately get overwhelmed and end up avoiding working on it altogether because it's no longer relaxing.
I would suggest calmly doing things here and there, whether its writing comments on a site, befriending the web bodies, etc. The process may be more enjoyable if you take it in stride.
That's all I have and I hope it was helpful, good luck to you! =]

What is your best tip for a newbie? A hat made from tinfoil
Seriously, I learnt the most from finding blogs that I enjoy. Then reflecting on what it was that I particularly enjoyed from their blogs and would that be applicable to my blog, in regards to responding to comments, using twitter etc. -
