Newsgator is now making its desktop and online RSS readers free. This includes FeedDemon (Windows), NetNewsGator (Mac), NewsGator Go! (mobile phones), and NewsGator online.

I prefer their services to any of the other major players, so its good to see that they're now open to everyone. (I discovered them when they bought NetNewsWire and gave me a free subscription because I already owned a NetNewsWire license.)

Interesting I have been thinking about getting a RSS reader

I was resistant to it for a long time but now I can't live without mine.

I demo'd several of their products when they were advertising in one of our magazines. They are pretty cool, but I stick with rss2email so I can just read posts in my mail client since I am in that application all day long.

For your job in tech support that might make sense. I got an RSS reader in order to get some control over my inbox. I also have been training myself to check my email less frequently, so that I can concentrate on other things for longer periods of time. BlogCatalog hasn't been helping much on that front though.

Here's a post I did on switching to RSS in order to unclog my email:

I still haven't started reading blogs (or anything) vis RSS. Maybe I'll check these products out and find a compelling reason to start.

What are the advantages over my G Reader account?

Or over Ghost, the desktop app I use (other than, of course, in 10 months or so I'll have to renew my license)?

It depends how you're using G-Reader. If you need its tags, then maybe NewGator isn't quite as good. I just find the UI very good for the Mac desktop application, and they've got a nice clean interface for the online product too. I wouldn't bother with the online product except that it allows me to sync across computers or access my data when on someone else's computer.

Edit: Also, it's been a while since I tried Google Reader, but I don't recall it being able to nest folders or deal with clippings within the application. NewsGator can.

No clippings as far as I know, but you can do nested or stream of news (which I prefer), and yeah I use the tagging a LOT.

One thing to keep in mind: I was speaking about their Mac desktop app. I don't know about the windows one, which was developed separately by different people. (For Mac they just bought out the no. 1 reader and at the same time hired the developer.)
