It certainly is worth persueing, you've just got to network a bit with other dog sites and cross promote yourself by getting links from them so that you get found by more readers.

You can check out http//:hovawart.kennelkaarup.dk for another good dog related site that is always looking to network with other blogs (The site is run by a Danish friend of mine).

I remember when he first started the Danish site and thought nobody was reading it. It feels like that until the site gains some traction.

    Paul.

He actually started a Danish blog about Hovawarts 2 or 3 years ago and only recently launched the English one because folks were asking for it. If you visit his site and send him an email I'm sure he'd be happy to tell you how he gets on with his site....

Get something that will show you real-time stats (spy feature) like getclicky.com/ to see what kind of traffic you're getting and to which articles. You might be surprised.

I will check it out. Thank you for your suggestion.

p.s. Ima BIG dog fan, great Blog! Tell your lovely dog, BIG beaux and BIG luke (BIG English Springer Spaniels) said, "wassswoof!" ....And, if you want comments, ask for reader involvement, I hear, is the best way. Really, honestly, some material just doesn't require comments but, if you're relaying valuable information, who needs comments? *Also, check out the BAU discussion originated by the Super Doctor Wonder Woman, everybody's there, in the same boat- it's BIG, too. I am not Napolean Dynomite but, it is pretty much my favorite BC discussion.

Thank you for your advice. I will carry on. Nice to meet your dogs and you, of course. On my blog you can see a picture of my canine godson who must be Beaux and Luke's cousin.

I don't remember the URL now, but check out Yaro Starak's entrepreurship blog post titled: Why no one reads your posts/blog

To answer your question --- if you love blogging, it's worth pursuing.
  5. Eurodog
    I will check it out.
You have convinced me: I will carry on.

Nobody reads anymore...though at least they are writing.
    1. Eurodog
      You are right!

You have a great looking site -- if this is your passion, and it certainly looks like it is, then it's worth pursuing.
    1. Eurodog
      Thank you.

First off, you need to write for yourself or else blogging is just a bore. Anything in life must be pursued with passion. Don't get discouraged, most people who read don't comment, but they read your writing nonetheless.

I agree with a previous commentator --- you should use a stats program so that you can measure your traffic.
    1. Eurodog
I will look into it. You are right.

I agree as well that you should monitor your traffic -- where it comes from (search? links from other blogs?) and what the readers are searching for/clicking on.

I use Google Analytics -- it's free and very comprehensive. (In fact, it provides more info than most people even want to take the time to look at!) You can use the info to develop a strategy for what to write about. This is not to say that you should not write about what you WANT to write about, but if you find that you're getting good search traffic when you write about certain topics, you can sprinkle some posts about those topics in with the rest, intentionally, in order to pull in some traffic. A portion of those readers will then stick around and become regulars.

Maybe search for some online dog forums related to your interests and make sure you include your blog URL in your signature line. You'll be surprised how often people will choose to see what your blog is about in a forum setting.

Please don't give up. I understand where initially it can seem like you're in a vacuum. When I first started, before I got tracking software, I was pretty sure my audience included only about 5 close friends and family. But the software told another story. And now I'm getting feedback from visitors, it's growing-- and it's frankly pretty exciting. Hang in there. It may just take a little extra patience. Best of luck to you.

The reading/commenting ratio can be huge, so just because nobody is commenting it doesn't have to mean that nobody is reading..

About 1 to 2% of readers comment on blog anyways.. I have 2000 feed subscribers and 1000's of front page readers, and I get around 40 to 60 comments per week total.. that's about 2%...
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Those are good stats to know-- thanks for sharing!

That does make sense, too, with what I'm seeing. I get about 1,000-2,000 unique visitors a week, and about one to two emails a week (I don't have commenting capabilities due to my platform, but do have an email contact set up.) I imagine I'd get more comments with the standard commenting tool, rather than the email form. But, hey, whatever works.

It just takes time...patience is a virtue especially with blogs.

I would do a search for other dog related blogs on blog catalog and start joining their communities, add them as contacts, leave useful comments on their blogs. When I see who has visited my blog I try to visit theirs. Join some dog related forums too and put your blog URL as your signature.

      Yes, I will. Thank you.

I wholeheartedly agree that if you're not enjoying writing for your blog than you can almost guarantee that not very many people are enjoying reading it. it is a sad, sad fact to think that few people actually read for pleasure these days. people would much rather merely scan and pick up what they believe to be the important aspects of an article. don't lose faith, if you enjoy your blog, that's the most important part.

I have to do my blog for work, but I enjoy every second of it. Offering advertising advice makes me feel like I'm helping some one somewhere and that's the best feeling for me. Don't lose heart!

    - Kate
    1. Eurodog
Thank you, Kate. No I will not loose heart because I love writing about dogs. I visited your blog too.
In fact I put a counter on my blog and I have had 350 hits in 10 days. Probably a few of those are mine when I go into my blog to use my links to other blogs but still I am not complaining.
      Thanks for your advice.

Oh, I'm so glad to hear this. I kept thinking about this on-and-off after you originally posted and was hoping you'd be able to get some verification that there were visitors.

    Great news!
