In the spirit of all the cooking threads

what food won't you allow in your kitchen no matter what?

mine're simple: no popcorn, no lima beans, and no canned veggies.

I don't mind fresh peas but no frozen or canned enter my house.
    2. Epicharis
peas are disgusting in all forms...ewww! *shudder*
    3. timethief
Canned peas are the most disgusting thing on the planet.
Sweet potatoes come a close second. But fresh peas and frozen peas are good.
    4. legbamel
Canned veggies in general (except potatoes), and liver.
  2. cookingasshole
    NO sweet potatoes!
    1. DollinNYC
      really?
    2. cookingasshole
      nope, none.
    3. DollinNYC
Maybe your lady has some stashed somewhere?
    4. cookingasshole
truth be told there is some in the freezer we feed to the baby but shhhh! Don't tell anyone. My reputation could be ruined.
    5. DollinNYC
ok - it's in the vault!
  3. Agit8r
    ohhh... FOODS o_0
  4. bettieblogger
no beets ... they are not allowed into my home for any reason whatsoever. I already let olives slide and that almost killed me right there.
    1. Epicharis
I've slipped on an olive before too...dangerous little things!
    2. kat822
olives taste like dirt to me
  5. bettieblogger
and they smell funny too ...
  6. Sam1982
    No red bell peppers!
    1. Epicharis
Second that...even the smell makes me gag!
  7. MissSuzie
Pork skins (rinds) and beef jerky. Makes me want to puke!
  8. Stillthinking
No lima beans! No celery! No olives!
    1. timethief
I also hate lima beans, navy beans and in fact, all beans. YUCK!
  9. nothingprofound
    Jalapeno peppers!

I tend to have more of a policy about food hanging around more than a day - for example, I don't like having fish in the fridge for more than 24 hours.
    1. Floormodel
I don't blame you on that.
  11. Sam1982
Also - I despise the use of cooking Sherry.
    1. Stillthinking
Ugh evil salted skunked wine. Who came up with that dreadful stuff! I told my friend that it is better to use real wine and add your own salt. Whatever your drinking for the evening, put a swig of it in whatever you're cooking instead of cooking sherry.
    2. Floormodel
      so does Sherry
    3. Sam1982
Yes, marsala / masala (?) is a good italian cooking wine
  12. Agit8r
I have little control over the contents of "my" kitchen

NO cabbage or brussel sprouts, both smell horrible when cooking.

brussel sprouts are evil little things anyway!
    1. Stillthinking
      I love brussel sprouts!

It only tastes bad if you overcook them. Overcooking causes them to give off a sulphuric taste and smell. You have to eat them just barely cooked. Just enough to take the edge off and you should only eat them in season. With some balsamic vinegar, onions and bacon. Yum.
    2. timethief
I also love brussel sprouts. I think that it's important to select only small and fresh sprouts cut a small X unto the base before steaming them. I like them best with served with real butter sauce and lemon.
    3. Floormodel
brussel sprouts cooked right are delicious.
    4. legbamel
You would defile beautiful Brussels sprouts with bacon?! Blasphemer!
  14. timethief
    No yams - yuck!
  15. Anok
    No liver!!!!

And no seafood, but that's 'coz I'm allergic.
  16. Stillthinking
I am rather fond of liver cooked right, but only at a really good restaurant. At home, blech!

Are you allergic to all seafood or just shellfish?
    1. Agit8r
not after you read the "womb man" thread, you won't
  17. bettieblogger
balsamic vinegar, onions and bacon?? I have only ever had them with a little butter, salt & pepper .. will have to try that

    Octopus - Pate` - Veal -
    1. cookingasshole
      Octopus is so freaking good!
    2. Sam1982
      Pate is the shiznit too
    3. Theresa111
@ Cookingasshole ... I firmly believe I am allergic to it. No proof positive, except I can eat almost all the other types of fish and shellfish, but mention this one and my skin crawls.
    4. cookingasshole
my mother in law developed an allergy to crab later in life but it is a cruel twist of fate because she loves crab. At least you have a natural aversion towards it!
    1. Theresa111
Ooh ... I'm right there with you on this one!!!
  19. christibroer
Canned veggies!!! No flavor or color either!
  20. jtsantos
My personal opinion: beef and other high protein food. Why? I'm a Dialysis patient and it's forbidden food.

In general: Anything that seems inadequately prepared. I'm the one cooking for my family so I should know.
