Did Obama mess up the oath? Or was it the fault of the Chief Justice?
If he did indeed mess up, my only hope is that it wasn't a sign of things to come.

There is already a thread on this topic ie. the speech here in the political forum www.blogcatalog.com/politics/discuss
    www.blogcatalog.com/politics/discuss/entry/ok-who-cried

Also whether or not you mind me saying so I can't imagine anyone wasting their time on writing on such a petty and picayune point when history is being made.

Amen to that. Talk about a tempest in a teapot!

actually he didn't mess it up, it was the Chief Justice. Let this not be the next internet rumor that I have to read about from crazy commentors.

Exactly, Obama paused abruptly after Roberts reversed several words in the oath. Roberts then repeated the phrase correctly. Big deal!

I predict that only the most recalcitrant "dog in the manger Republican" losers, who refuse to move on and to take an active role in the change that's needed in America by ridding themselves of their animosity, and working cooperatively with their neighbors will focus on this non-issue.

“You must be the change you want to see in the world.” -- Mahatma Gandhi

Yet American Republicans are so fear filled, negatively focused and politically bereft that they can only hold onto the past. What a pity.

Bush may say nuclear in a strange fashion to most. But at least he got the Oath right.

With Obama like this, and Gaff-Machine Biden in office, Leno / Letterman won't have much of a problem coming up with jokes over the next 4.

I rest my case ... ow ow oow owoooo! from the manger.

"I predict that only the most recalcitrant "dog in the manger Republican" losers, who refuse to move on and to enable the change that's needed in America"

What you fail to realize here is that it isn't everyones job to silently accept anything that comes out of government. To disagree is the foundation of democracy.

It is each and everyones responsibility to support and enable whatever they agree with, and to voice protest against anything that they dont.

To "move on and enable" based on democratic vote would mean giving up the Prop 8 fight in california. Wouldn't you agree?

No, The chief justice got thrown off By Obama interrupting him in the first sentence.

    Obama 1.

    Justice 1.

you're such an annoyance, give it up already

      @csiuntac
      I'll second that!

Moreover I have no intention of feeding as other members have done for months on end. I believe when we experience this that the recommended solution for termination is failure to engage.

Man, you really need to learn the difference between a valid criticism and any-crap-you-can-possibly-say-that-will-be-negative-about-Obama-no-matter-how-inane....

This is the most ridiculous of things to be worried about. First of all, the Chief Justice is the one who switched the words around. You might have noticed Obama correcting it when he said it back.

Secondly, he made absolutely no errors during his long inaugural address.

Third, no one should even be commenting on one tiny flub like that when the president of the past 8 years has not had a coherent thought come out of his mouth in those 8 years.

    Blee blaa bloo.

35 words that, in the end, were said in the right order.

Yes, he is human. Yes, both sides messed up (one interrupted, one put a word in the wrong place).

While I'm sure that this minute-long moment will go down in history, et cetera, I'm actually more interested in the four years that come after it.

mark my words, this will be small potatoes compared to the wild claims that he used lincoln's koran.
    1. sensico
lol, ah...yes I can see it now. It would definitely make for good blog posts if such a rumor was started.

with that said, Im done as both friday, tt, and writingimpromptu are right.
  7. dratiffarid
    It doesn't matter.
He was confident and was able to get the words straight.
  8. kirat92
I wasn't saying that Obama messed up, I was just asking, I'm Indian and I don't know the oath so I had no idea what happened there for like those 5 seconds, Obama nearly burst out laughing.
  9. roguedeals
    SHUT UP.

I have no more patience for anything political or religious. I don't know how the admins on here haven't spontaneously combusted with frustration.
  10. fearless21
The Justice was at fault here. End of story. Now let's move on please.
  11. drjay1966
Either way, suggesting it's a "sign of things to come" is moronic, indicating that you either think Obama's the messiah, or you're a right-winger just looking for the tiniest little thing....

How would any of us do in front of millions of people? I'm not sure I could even remember my name if I had to stand in front of all those people and the entire world watching on tv, while I try to recite an oath or even my own name. It looks easy until you have to do it yourself.

I think he did a great job.
    1. SweetViolet
Yup. And his address was magnificent!
  16. exit2013
It doesn't matter, by 12 noon Obama was the President anyway.

    It's in the U.S. Constitution.
  17. deoangel
He just took the oath over again.
