    CONGRATULATIONS USA!!!
    1. juandy
I'm an Indonesian and like many citizens in other countries, we have an optimistic hope on Obama, most of them are excited to see Obama come to the stage. They're waiting to see Obama bring better policies in interacting with the rest of the world. And of course to overcome this global recession thing...

    OBAMA ELECTED PRESIDENT
All the networks have called the election for Barack Obama. You can call him President-elect. Congrats.

    YAY!

    That's great!!!!

    Fantastic! YES WE CAN!
  6. BlueSunshine
The good news is that McCain lost!

The bad news is that Obama won.

    Sigh.
  7. sahar
This is how it was supposed to be...it feels so right.
  8. marlyms
Really? Well, I guess majority of the people in the USA likes socialism? Yay!
    1. sahar
nah, we just don't like ignorance, dishonesty, war, hate, capitalism, racism, and pretty much everything else that's been forced on us for the last 8 years.
    2. Havohej
lol we hate capitalism? You, my friend, are an idiot. Look how well communism worked out for the soviets. Look how it's worked for Cuba. Look how many changes the Asians had to make in order for it to 'work'. That's what you want for America? diaf...
    3. Dukepro25
      Settle down Havohej

      Sheesh
    4. sahar
lol, u need to relax. So i guess we want the last 8 years huh? let's continue the way we have been the last 8 years ...maybe it'll get us somewhere.

You're the idiot...but that goes without saying just by the way you responded. No tact what-so-ever...just like so many of McCain's supporters.
    5. drjay1966
This must be rough for you, marlyms. Best wishes to you.
    6. marlyms
They want to get out from the last 8 years? Hahaha! And they are so sure he will make a change? As what I heard, it will be worst this time and I just feel sorry about this. Tsk, tsk!
    7. jafabrit
I guess when Bush nationalized or quasi nationalized the banking industry it sort of paved the way
    8. beowulf1331
who says we are communist Havohej....socialism and communism are different first of all and secondly if i am a horrible person for not wanting to be 1 trillion in debt and have health care for all yet still have a capitalistic economy I guess that makes me a socialist. Think before you speak. If you want to see socialism in the way you are speaking you might as well take a look at canada and the netherlands as well...i dont see them having any issues. And socialism is not the same as a dictatorship which is what you are speaking of...those countries were just governments which went astray because they didnt have the checks and balances in place that we have here in the united states which dont allow one person complete control.
    9. nepalijournal
You won't realize the perils of communism unless you're subjected to a communist regime. Regarding the arguments for socialism, my friend, read Economic Thoughts for Today and Tomorrow by Ludwig Von Mises.
  9. GratciaNulis
Yaiy for now!! I hope 4 months from now, the same crowds which "yaiying", won't say Oops!! LOL.

    Save the economy!
  15. BlueSunshine
So after all the euphoria has subsided and unrealistic expectations are lowered, America will just see that it's just business as usual. Old problems that may be fixed will just be replaced by new problems, and the middle class will still get the short end of the stick. The only change we will see is a fresh face in the White House and nothing more.
    1. morgantj
We can only wait and see. I fear this as well. He has a big mess to clean up and lot of work to do to make the "fundamental change" he speaks of. Hopefully he can get the support he needs, and people will be willing to make the necessary sacrifices. I think the American standards of living must change and be less extravagent to improve the environment, our country, and the world.
    2. freeatlast
I agree... in that if people continue to look to a leader for change and don't change themselves, it's going to look not much different than any other generation.
    3. XIII
No no, one man is going to change what all those hundreds of politicians have supported and endorsed for the past decade(s). He's going to pull a magical rabbit out of his hat that is going to undo all the wrongs and fix everything.
Ah well, good luck to him.

    MC CAIN IS THE LOSER,

IF INDIANS ARE ALLOWED TO VOTE THEN MC CAIN WOULD HAVE WON

WELL, I AM HAPPY OBAMA WON... HE'LL BRING CHANGE
    1. calais50
      Why do Indians like McCain?
    2. dsriharsha
Indians would vote for Mccain because it is the republican party which pushed forward the civil Nuclear deal, while Obama was against it.
    3. psychosolodiver
Obama actually took a position on an issue? Amazing!
    4. friedclyde
not just that, Obama wants to cut the outsourcing, so ull soon see the entire world crumbling in some time.... and then building up again slowly.... but Obams victory has made me soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happppyyyy

      look a bug ^
  19. luckyless
its not about indians , or black n white people

    its a propaganda againsth MUSLIMS

The change of FACE doent mean " CHANGE "
  20. psychosolodiver
Obama is a Socialist! With both houses of the Congress controlled by the Democrats, they're going to screw this country up probably worse than FDR did with his "New Deal."

Bush screwed up the Republican party and this country so much, the only Republican candidate that would have had a chance would have been Ron Paul. But, the media (which is owned by the few large corporations that control the government) wrote him off as a "longshot" or "dark horse" candidate.

I won't blame Obama for his Socialist agenda; I'll blame Bush for ruining this country and the people who voted him in TWICE!

I'm going to start calling my friends "commrades." Get ready for Socialism!
    1. jafabrit
oh pleeeeeeeeeeeeeze! how dramatic can one get. Even hard core socialists can't see a connection and neither can one of Americas riches capitalists Warren Buffet.
"Obama is about as far from being a socialist as Joe The Plumber is from being a rocket scientist," said Darrell West, director of governance studies at the Brookings Institution. "I think it's hard for McCain to call Obama a socialist when George Bush is nationalizing banks."
      www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-obama-chicago-socialist,0,4048540.story
    2. Dukepro25
Ron Paul was by far the best candidate, but the guy with all the right (correct) answers never wins.

      So sad.

I'm afraid this scenario just might play out like our last president.
    3. fjl3
Give me a break. Taking more than just the top 5% of the country into consideration will not turn us into socialists. I'd like to know why everyone is crying socialist at Obama for cutting taxes, and yet no one plays that card when Bush proposes giving $700 billion to bailout companies like AIG who immediately blow the money on a retreat. Besides, we already have "socialists" programs if Obama's ideas are socialist... Social Security, Medicare, Unemployment, Welfare, etc. Get over it, he is just trying to restore our country to a healthy state.

I say thank you grateful goodness for the election being over! I am so sick of looking at all the billboards, yard signs, car stickers, and web ad's. I don't want to hear another TV commercial, radio ad, or internet parody. With everyone bickering Obama! McCain! Obama! McCain! it sounds like the biggest adult-driven he said/she said.

So yes, I say.. election over.

It's only 4 years... if reelected then 8... which is really nothing in time. LOL

He is just a man, whose main job will be tryng to live up to unreasonable expectations of the people who voted for him and of those who didn't.

Life goes on as always, I am glad the election is finally over... LOL
    1. blindfoldthemoose
He is a man become a symbol however. There is a certain amount of power in that beyond what even the presidency can provide. His actions from here could pull the country forward or drive it further into the ground.

You are correct though. The political system is designed such that if he isn't working out we need only wait a couple years to give another their chance. Our strengths and weaknesses lie in our adaptability.
    2. Dukepro25
"His actions from here could pull the country forward or drive it further into the ground."

  44. lnclark1950
Now Liberalism will be on trial. Will it moves and empowers people or keeps them enslaved to a government system? Will it grow the economy or will it grow government? If you are happy being enslaved to government you will love the next 4-8 years but if you love the freedom to use your talents to earn an income you will find yourself shackled. Govenment cannot lift people up it can only bring people down to the same level, dependency.

Just remember President elect Obama's words last night: "You will have to get use to sacrifice." Doesn't sound like he is going to lift you up after all.

I'm not sure why all this discussion here about Communism, Socialism or Capitalism... The key word is Democracy and Americans had taught us a great lesson about Democracy this week. Congratulations from Canada!!
    1. jafabrit
A real socialist from the socialist party Brian Moore states Obama is the furthest thing from socialism you can get.
      news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/10/30/socialist-candidate-not-obama-spe...

The biggest irony here is that it is republicans who have acted within the traditional definition of socialism (meaning government ownership of the major means of production and finance, such as land, coal mines, steel mills, automobile factories, and banks) by quasi nationalizing the banks.
  50. COOLINGSTAR9
Wow, I feel excited for the great news.
Change we can believe, I like this phase.
It shows to the world that everybody regardless of race, we all can do it if we do our best.
It inspire many people in the world.
Salute Obama, you brings hope to people like me and others.
  51. Deathchronx
It took me awhile for it to really hit me, like the next day and a couple of hours. Then I smiled and realized...After watching the victory speech, he mentioned the 107 year old voter. Hearing all that she has seen, from not being able to even drink of the same water fountain, or vote, to now witnessing the first black president. America has changed a whole lot and thats sorta what makes Obama being president so significant to me.
  52. Norski
I say that history has been made.

I also said that America survived its first Irish president, which is a hopeful sign. (That's supposed to be funny, BTW: I'm about half Irish.)

I don't think that who a person's ancestors were is as important as who the person is, but any ethnic group having a 'first president' is something of a big deal.

What I'm waiting for now is the first Japanese, Chinese, or Vietnamese president. That'll probably take another several decades, so odds are I won't see it. But, IMO, that's the next ethnic milestone. Your opinion will probably vary.
  53. dede
i would like to say. Congratulation mr obama?...a bright future in you hand....
  54. chacham100
    Dow keeps dropping...hmmm..I wonder why..
    1. jafabrit
investors fear a recession and that is not going to change no matter who is in the white house.
  55. Bingkee
i don't think Obama can deliver what he promised. His platform and promises have a lot of inconsistencies. Besides , the USA has a problem deeper than the economic crisis and national security itself.
    1. jafabrit
He can try though with the help of the american public who have a stake in this and shouldn't expect government to solve everything. There has to be some frame of reference to start with, but yes realistically there is much that is going on which could undermine those efforts.
  56. beowulf1331
I agree the market would be dropping no matter.
  57. drjay1966
Having glanced through this thread, I say that the silly right wing smears are now kind of funny, as well as kind of sad.
  58. jetz09
i would say "Yes! he won!" but ofcourse it's still a long way to go to be able to fix those mess.

"Obama Wins... What do you say now?"
I say, Holy hell we elected a socialist.

A decision we will come to regret.
  61. filmasia
i am happy for the new America!

hope the economy will recover and will enjoy cheap petrol in near future.
    1. marlyms
Yes..that was I am hoping for too..so that we will not be so tight with the high prices of basic commodities.
  62. ThirstyJon
Americans have made a tragic mistake.
    1. fjl3
No, Americans have revolted against the mistake they had made for the last 8 years.
  63. artofreed
    Democracy - Democracy - Democracy.
USA, really democracy country, I hope.
  64. rileycentral
I say ... cool I'll drink the elixir with the rest of you but I know based on my experience of life that very little will actually change because of the new President.
  65. creemos
The power is in congress... not the oval office.
    1. fjl3
Boo... why help promote the negative, false hate speech that has dominated so much of the last 2 years?
  66. Loriworks
If that new president stepped down tomorrow, he has already set a new standard of hope. You could see it in people's eyes. Tears of relief. Even if he does nothing or leaves tomorrow, it will be hard to step in his place and instill the confidence that he did. Even if he leaves right now, we all got a moment of confidence that I have never seen a politician give before out to the public. I don't know Obama, but you got my respect. I would like to see a speech with Bush and a speech with Obama side by side and watch people's faces all over say how on earth did we elect someone (as my 10 yr old said) who can't speak(Bush).

    Stewart
  67. Loriworks
Too many people concerned about what he'll be able to really do. Not my concern. He already did what needs to be done. Show that the USA is able to change. If things actually do or do not isn't my concern. The pure demonstration of his election is enough. He set a standard. Could Bush do that? Bush Sr? Clinton? Who else? Well at least Clinton could talk. Stewart
  68. artofreed
Let see what the changes to the world
  69. creemos
The more things change, the more things stay the same.

There is nothing new under the sun.
  70. jialok
    I feel so happy!
  71. ThirstyJon
    What do I say now?

Everybody makes mistakes. Even America. This isn't our first one.

We'll survive, Obama will pass into history and we will carry on.
  72. davedol
With Obama in office...invest in the stock market! Believe it! Will the stock market be higher 4 years from now then it was at the end of the Bush era? Will the DOW be over 7500 4 years from now? Bet on it! Better days ahead. What was the DOW when Clinton left office? What was the DOW when Bush left office? That is all we need to know about that philosphy. Nuff said.
    1. ThirstyJon
I've been hearing this kind of logic my whole life and I don't buy it. The President may or may not be a significant factor in the state of the economy after anybody's term.

During and after Bill Clinton's term? I would say it was chance, the fruit of 12 great years of Reagan/Bush, and the Republican "Contract with America" that should get credit for any health at all in our economy then. As well as just normal cycles.

During George W. Bush's term? It is normal to have economic troubles during or after a major war. His tax cuts prevented possible greater troubles.

During Obama's term? He will either get lucky and preside over a significant recovery (and that will be luck), or he will ruin what could have been a normal cycle of recovery with big government spending and programs.

Obama will either make it worse or get lucky on the economy. And so many Americans will just vote on how they feel about the economy after 4 years of Obama, not based on any real analysis of his policies.
