How can I do it?
I mean, I realize my blog (rustykiwi.com) is new, but Id like to get started as fast as possible.
A blooger I really admire is Maddox (maddox.xmission.com), you may or may not have heard of him. We dont do exactly the same thing (hes more political/satirical, Im just random), but the traffic he gets is fantastic.
His blog has been around for 10 years though! Call me antsy, but I dont want to wait that long!

Well, my advice is pretty basic ... just visit other blogs that you like or have a similar content and comment. But make legitimate comments, not just spammy ones. That's it. You have to ask yourself why you blog. If it's just for traffic you probably won't have much fun at it.

If you're enjoying yourself and providing good content ... people will visit. And if they don't, well at least you're enjoying yourself.

    No, I definetly enjoy it!
But, it would make it more fun, and worthwhile if people actually read it...
Good idea though, Ill try and get around to other blogs in my genre...

I believe all this blogging activity takes time to be appreciated by others. If the content is good and of quality, viewers will come back for more information. It will then spread over time and more traffic will come. Just be patience and all will be well, if content quality is as said above.
However, the joy you get from blogging is good enough to keep you going even when traffic is not as expected. Cheers!

getting traffic to your site is about promoting your site consistently on a daily basis...

if i where you i would draw up a plan of promotion steps that you undertake every day, and be consistent

for example, comment on other people's blogs, use facebook & myspace groups, offer a free course and get an autoresponder... basically there are alot of mediums you can use to increase your web traffic

Visiting other blogs seem to be best. Digg and Entrecard and many of the traffic exchanges are ephemeral. I am learning this. Once you stop doing them, your traffic disappears. I decided to stop using Entrecard and poof most of my traffic disappeared. It is similar to Stumbleupon. You get stumbled and recognized then the readers evaporate. If you want some little extra recognition in the beginning it is good, but if you get drawn in, you forget to do the regular promotion part, once you stop your traffic disappears.

Write good stuff...find out where your traffic is coming from using something like Statcounter, and visit those blogs. Comment.

Half the readers I get (if not more) are from making GOOD comments on other readers' blogs. Their readers become your readers.

    It's an endless cycle.

You can either do that, or send me $50 and I'll add you to my blogroll.
