Whose your favorite under-rated actor/actress?

Whose your least favorite over-rated actor/actress.

My fav underrated actress is Angela Bassett. I think she's pretty much been incredible in ever role I've seen her in.

My least favorite overrated actor...I have two who I equally dislike, Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

My favorite underrated actor: Johnny Depp - I think he's tremendously talented.
My favorite underrated actress: Glenn Close - I think she gets stuck in roles that don't suit her. But tied close with Tracy Ulman - She's Amazingly adept at changing - chameleon-like.

My least favorite overrated actor: Ray Liotta - dude never changes
My least favorite overrated actress: Julia Roberts - She is the same person in EVERY movie, with the exception of only ONE movie.

    overrated actor: Tom Cruise
overrated actress: Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba

underrated actor: Denzel Washington, Gary Sinise
underrated actress: Marissa Tomei, I really like Angela Bassett too and I don't think she gets enough credit.
    1. aningeniousname
You're right Gary Sinise is a great actor, he was brilliant in "Of mice and men" with John Malkovich.
    2. lotusb
Denzel is hardly underrated...he's won oscars and he's considered brilliant worldwide.
  5. daisygray
Thanks.. yeah, for me he hasn't disappointed and I don't think he gets the credit he deserves.

    Underrated actress: Patricia Clarkson.

She is in her late 40's, early 50's and is amazing in every movie and tv show I have ever seen her in. I recently saw her as one of the MILF's on a SNL skit with Susan Sarandon, Justin Timberlake, and Andie Sandberg. It was a follow up music video to "Dick in a box". It cracked me up that an actress known for very serious, indie dramatic roles could laugh at herself.

Overrated actress: Nicole Kidman. Stiff, boring, robotic in every single movie with the exception of "To Die For"

Underrated Actor: Joaquin Phoenix. This guy is an amazing, amazing, amazing actor but because he's totally nuts, he's not as famous or as successful as he should be.

Overrated actor: Will Smith. Seriously? Who watches this guy? Apparently millions of people who are not me.
    1. Friday13
      Patricia Clarkson, definitely!

    Overated actress:renee zellweger

overated actor: tom cruise (he plays himself in every movie)
    1. roadgurl5
Yes, yes, yes on zellweger...most overrated, over-acting actress

Underrated...Cher in her acting days. I thought she was great in Mask and Silkwood

      Overrated...Mel Gibson

      Underrated...Morgan Freeman
    2. stellak
I love morgan freeman! hes got this quiet power to him
    3. faithsju243
@roadgurl5, Cher was great in Mask, she should have kept on acting. I also liked her in this movie when she was a lawyer and the defendant was mute...I can't remember the name of it....
    4. roadgurl5
@faithsju243 Oh my gosh, yes...Suspect w/Liam Neeson...very good movie! I also liked her in Mermaids as the wacky mom.
    5. roadgurl5
@stellak I know what you mean...I loved him in Shawshank Redemption
  10. aningeniousname
I know he was really famous but I always think Jack Lemmon was very underrated.
  11. ckent27
    Overated:

Tom Cruise. I've never seen the appeal.

Julia Roberts. Is always Julia Roberts. And you can always count on the Julia Roberts' laugh in almost every movie.
    1. theskinnyblog
haha I know its so snide but I am glad I'm not the only one who hates Tom Cruise. I just find him small and odd. The only film I ever enjoyed was Risky Business, that was more for the comedy value than his acting 'skills'.
    2. lotusb
Small and odd...maybe. But did you see him in that Thunder movie..with Ben Stiller... friggin hilarious!!
    3. theskinnyblog
lol! No, but if Ben Stiller is in it I will give it a go

Overrated: Brad Pitt. I appreciate that he tries to do diverse character roles like in "Burn After Reading"...

But to me, there's no sense of realism with anything he does-- it's either really broad over-the-top, or it's not acting so much as accessorizing.

I know people like him. I appreciate that they do. I just can't connect with his work.
    1. Stillthinking
I actually think Brad Pitt is a TERRIBLE actor and am baffled as to why people think he's good at it.

      He is, however, very attractive.
    2. ckent27
His looks have taken him a very far way.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

      HAHA
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
I actually don't find him that attractive, either, and I can't figure out why. It might just be the acting. On the other hand, I really appreciate Johnny Depp.
    4. Stillthinking
There was this scene in "Benjamin Button" that left me breathless he was so beautiful in it.

But then he spoke and ruined the moment.
    5. roadgurl5
      @Stillthinking

Was it the moment he reached his teenage years? At that point, I thought he really did look alot like his real self when he first started movies.
    6. Stillthinking
      Yes!

It reminded me of "Legends of the Fall", "River Runs Through It", "Thelma and Louise" all those movies he did when he was really young and beautiful.

Actually, I read a review by a critic that said that was one of the ways that movie was effective. That scene drew upon our collective pop memory of Brad when he was young.

They are using that age regression a lot in movies now. They did it in Wolverine and again in Terminator.
    7. faithsju243
Now that I think about it I only liked Brad Pitt in one movie, Interview with the Vampire.....hmmm maybe I agree he is overrated.
    8. lotusb
Brad Pitt, is actually an awesome actor. I loved him in that diamond movie where he played the unaudable Irish guy...hilarious. I think people are distracted by his cutie pie good looks or the fact that himand his lady are all over the mags...but when you break it down, he's awesome to watch, he was really good in the Benjamin Button movie..
    9. ThriftShopRomantic
I saw the movie where he played the Irish guy. His accent just didn't work for me... I found myself sitting there the whole time thinking, "Wow, that Irish accent is really... off..."

I know, I know... It's just me. It's not a popular sentiment, and I'm cool with that. It's just how I feel.

Under-rated actors: Albert Finney (I've always liked him), Alan Rickman, Gerard Butler (love the roles he chooses. My favorite Scot.)
Over-rated actors: Tom Cruise (agreeing with virtually everyone here), Kenneth Branagh (who knew his role in Harry Potter would be so, well, autobiographical?), Matthew McConaughey

    Under-rated actress: Laura Linney
Over-rated actresses: Gwynneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson (she's just a mess), Anne Hathaway
    1. Stillthinking
I really like Laura Linney. I think she's an amazing actress. The first thing I ever saw her in was in Armistead Maupin's "Tales of the City" as MaryAnn Singleton.

Favorite underrated actor: Benicio Del Torro (hot)
Favorite underrated actress: Syndey Poitier II

    Overrated actor: Orlando Bloom
    Overrated actress: Kristen Stewart

    2. Stillthinking
Benicio looks a lot like Brad Pitt.

    3. faithsju243
@stillthinking, interesting with them side by side they could def be related.
  16. HollytheHousewife
I think leo is way over rated. Except far b-ball diaries
    1. faithsju243
@Holly, I never understood the whole Leo thing...but b-ball diaries was an awesome movie....
    2. MidwestMom
Actually, as an actor, he's not so bad. I've never thought of him as a heartthrob, but his acting can be quite good.

Think of What's Eating Gilbert Grape and The Departed. I just saw Body of Lies, and his performance was pretty good.

He's one of those that is improving with age, I think. But if all you've seen is Titanic, I can see why you wouldn't like him.
  17. HollytheHousewife
Yea but ya know what? So was this boys life. Maybe he's just overrated since he got big.
  18. cooper
Love Benicio and Depp. Other than that I am bad at actors and actresses names I know their faces but that is about it.
