To be honest we all know that if it was not for Obama, Palin a woman and the Governor of Alaska would not have even been considered for the VP spot!

If she thinks that the pipeline and Iraq war are God's will then she needs to thank the lord for Obama.

Amen Brothers and Sistas!!!!!!!

Fair enough, at least you're giving her pick a positive spin
  2. gmoney
I like her..... as a individual,I think it is great what she has accomplished in such a short time. It all boils down to our country and the politics that I think will benefit our country.
    1. carlgalloway
You have a point, and I guess it's great to have so much interest in this election, and most importantly both candidates are promising change which might mean that 2009 and on will be good years for the USA.
    2. gmoney
well as many have stated not all change is good, but well we will see.
    3. harleyblues
Gmoney you can't be serious sure you don't like her for her looks?

You have to also consider if anything happens to the president. Who will take charge. Do you really want Obama's VP to be in charge?
    1. gmoney
are you serious? Palin over Biden..... well maybe you are.....
    2. bertro
He would be better than Palin - a ton more experience and therefore better insight

I wonder is Palin understands how lucky she is?

      way to bump a discussion.
    2. drjay1966
I don't think she believes in luck--she thinks Jesus picked her because she's such a moral beacon because of her selfless devotion to the oil companies and killing large animals...or something.
  6. mikeny07
You still have to give credit to McCain. He had many others on his long VP list. To me this pick show this guy deserves a chance. If he screws up, then we can throw him out in 4 years.

As a chess player, McCain picking Palin is beyond a brilliant move. It wins the game.
    1. voodooKobra
Not really. She's not a great candidate. Gender does not placate shitty policies.
    2. lisamcglaun
Do some quick research on her and you might not think she was such a great pick. I'm not buying the image that the Republican Party is pushing so hard. I looked up as much as I can about her reputation as govenor and it's not so impressive.
    3. ttiger
If you aren't worried about the fact this women might be literally a heart beat away from the presidency then something is wrong with you. I don't care if you are a Republican or not, but this woman is a religious nut and it's scary as hell to think she has the possibility to become president.

This woman is against the very roots this country was founded on
  7. gmoney
Well as the Republicans have said Obama is the "anointed one" and he is the "messiah" so GOD had to send him. Palin owes him a feet washing.

To be honest, after writing a detailed blog post about her and talking about her here all week, I'm starting to feel a little nauseous whenever she comes up. It's not quite the same kind of upchucky feeling I get with Romney or that 9/11 guy from NYC, but it ain't pretty. If it's gotta be born again, give me someone with a sense of humor who knows there's life after birth: Huckabee. At least he's honest.

This is the weirdest election in a long time, if you aren't rich, don't fall for this stupid little ploy, vote democrat!!!!
    1. kristilinauer
And you saying that because that's what you overheard on some talk show? In case you're actually interested in the facts, I'll share some for you:

      1. Obama, in his speech at the DNC, gave a laundry list of programs he plans to help the middle class, including a middle-class tax cut, national healthcare plan, foreclosure prevention fund, and more. He even went on to say that these wouldn't cost us a penny because "they're paid for." However, they're far from "paid for", as he has no concrete plans for payment of these programs. Instead, it depends on a huge list of "maybes" and cause-effect that may or may not actually be possible. Also, he failed to mention that his plans would leave America with a LARGER DEFICIT than we would have with the current tax code, which means that our children, and their children, would have to pay for Obama's plan.

      2. One of Obama's main criticisms of the Iraq War has been the cost. The first five years of the war cost the US $600 billion. He has stated that he wants us to stop spending that money trying to put Iraq back together, and use that money to put the United States back together. However, he conveniently fails to mention that HE SPONSORED A BILL called the Global Poverty Act that will cost the US $845 billion, which would go to help wipe out poverty in other countries. Hmmm...he criticizes the $600 billion price tag of Iraq, but has no problem pledging $845 billion to other countries.

      3. While most liberals see the increased tax on the wealthy as something they have coming to 'em, they fail to see the ramifications. These tax hikes will directly affect small businesses in the US, including S Corporations and Sole Proprietors. Small business is the engine that powers this nation, and employs millions of Americans. Small businesses employ the majority of Americans. However, with these increased taxes, many businesses will be forced to close their doors completely, while others will be forced to lay off workers in order to keep going.

Under Obama's proposed tax increases, the taxes for S Corporations will be increased from a current rate of 35% to almost 40%. What does that mean? LOSS OF JOBS! But wait! Obama's plan also calls for an increased tax rate for Sole Proprietors from the current rate of 37.9% to a rate of 50.3%!!! What does THAT mean? Businesses will be forced to close their doors, even more people on unemployment, and more people losing their homes and unable to purchase food for their families.

But wait, there's more. Democrats in Congress have already started talking about making these tax increases on businesses applicable not only to those making over $250,000, but TO ALL BUSINESSES, REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH THEY MAKE, which means that I, a sole proprietor who makes peanuts, would be required to pay over 50% income tax.

If Obama becomes pres, I, and thousands of other additional Americans, will be sitting our asses in the unemployment line!
Does that sound like a strong America to you?

I guess things look much different when you actually apply the facts!
    2. kristilinauer
I forgot to add, under McCain's plan, the tax rate for small business would be around 25%--about 10% lower than it currently is. What does that mean? The possibility for more jobs, more people employed, fewer people on welfare, fewer people losing their homes, and essentially, A STRONGER AMERICA!
    3. opinionstreams
      @Kristi - this is from factcheck.org:

"McCain has repeatedly claimed that Obama would raise tax rates for 23 million small-business owners. It's a false and preposterously inflated figure. We find that the overwhelming majority of those small-business owners would see no increase, because they earn too little to be affected. Obama's tax proposal would raise rates only on couples making more than $250,000 or singles earning more than $200,000."

"According to a survey from the National Federation of Independent Businesses, about eight out of 10 small-business owners responding to the poll report that they are organized legally in a way that would require them to pay taxes on their business income as individuals, rather than as a corporation. But since Obama's plan wouldn't affect those making less than $250,000 for couples, or about $200,000 for singles, we need to estimate how many would fall into those high-income categories."

"The actual number of business owners who would be affected turns out to be well under a million, and the number of employers would be even less. Based on the number of taxpayers who now report any sort of business income on their returns, the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center projects that 663,608 taxpayers with business income, or business losses, will fall into the top two tax brackets in 2009, when any Obama tax changes would first take effect. Not all of those can properly be called "small-business owners," however. Some are farmers. Many are lawyers, accountants or other professionals who get some of their income in the form of partnership distributions. Others may be passive investors in real-estate partnerships or similar investment arrangements and not really persons who own and manage a business."

"For all these reasons we judge that the actual number of small-business employers who would face higher tax rates under Obama is probably far below 663,608, and certainly a far cry from McCain's ridiculously inflated 23 million figure."

      www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/mccains_small-business_bunk.html
    4. kristilinauer
Well, I find it very suspect that various sources would have such drastically different numbers.

And maybe you missed the last part...Democrats in congress are talking about making the increased tax rates applicable to ALL BUSINESSES, regardless of income.

Is that really a gamble you want to take? As a small business owner myself, I can tell you my answer....HELL NO!

      Edited to add:
Also, just for the sake of argument, let's take the number from factcheck: 663,608. Now they said that not all of those would be considered small businesses, so we'll drop that down to 500,000. Now let's estimate that each of those small businesses has 5 employees (because, of course, some of them have none like myself, and some have up to 100 or more, so this is probably a conservative estimate).

So 500,000 companies with 5 employees = 2.5 MILLION Americans that could be adversely affected by Obama's plan. Good for America?
    5. opinionstreams
@kristi - I did factcheck.org, businessweek and wsj and got the same figures from all. I also found this comparison from the SBE Council:

      www.sbecouncil.org/uploads/Candidate Side by Side Aug 25 final[1].pdf

BTW - where'd you get the info on Congress wanting to raise taxes across the board? Not saying I don't trust you but I haven't been able to find anything on point in a Google search (Google is a terrible thing in the wrong person's hands )

I did find this article, which says that Congress is actually considering lowering taxes for small business investors - www.nuwireinvestor.com/articles/congress-considering-tax-breaks-for-small-b...

[edit re: stupid SBE link - I can't get the dang thing to work. Just copy paste the link into your browser, including the "[1].pdf" part.]

[edit again after reading your edit - I haven't even begun to trounce McCain's plan yet. Lucky for you it's crazy late and I'm about to call it a night. I'm sure there'll be many more opportunities ]
    6. kristilinauer
I'll have to look for that. I've been collecting all kinds of articles, so I'll need to find the one that said that.
    7. opinionstreams
Okay, so the SBE link is totally screwed. Go to this page:
      jan.freedomblogging.com/2008/08/28/small-business-obama-vs-mccain/

toward the end of the brief article is a link to the SBE document. It says "Click here to see the entire comparison."
    8. clioandme
Strange, there were Republicans at the RNC talking about global poverty and health too—most notably BIll Frist. Course they were a little schizophrenic about the UN. Giuliani ridiculed it and McCain said he would work with it (the same McCain who was out front on starting the Iraq War, publicly talking about starting it before Bush was). I'm thinking the GOP leadership needs counseling and medication.

I'm also thinking anytime anyone cites numbers about foreign aid, they should place them next to the amounts we've given to Pakistan and other countries in military aid, and a summary of what that aid actually accomplished. I'm also thinking a history of US humanitarian aid would be interesting, especially if translated into current dollars.

Lastly, if I understand the Republicans this week, they are against community involvement (jabs taken at Obama for his early career, before his tenures as State Senator and US Senator), at least if Democrats do it. They also don't think government can help anyone. (And under Bush it didn't when Katrina struck.) Maybe the party should adopt real "straight talk" and adopt these mottos "Tough Luck!" and "It ain't my problem!".
  13. ThomasCSlater
    sure is interesting..
  14. Jeunelle
She comes across a bit too forceful and headstrong for me
and I don't think that will come across very well in the Islamic nations either if she becomes Vice Pres and goes over in those nations to wheel, deal and play Boss. Big No No.
  15. AmmoBob
I think is is disgusting how much you freaking liberals talk bad about Governor Palin and how you try to make everything about her some sort of dig or personal attack.

I think that only proves that you are really scared of her. You speak out one side of your month about equality and fairness, but it is clear it only applies to the men or women who tow your party line.

    How sad for America...
    1. drjay1966
Yes, conservatives certainly haven't done anything like that with Obama....

      Or were you joking?
    2. AmmoBob
I'm dead serious. Obama, the "Golden Boy" can say or do anything and you guys believe it without any question. Your blind hatred for the current administration has caused you to grab at the first person who promises your type of hope.

Stepping back and looking at the facts is beyond your comprehension.
    3. clioandme
Bob, did you not listen to her attacks at the RNC? Let me get this straight, you think the "pitbull with lipstick" (her words) can be as vicious as she pleases, but we should treat her with kid gloves? I've got news for you. This this neither the time nor the place for chivalry. She's on record herself (before the nomination) saying women politicians shouldn't try to play the victim. Course her surrogates didn't get the memo, and she's not working real hard to set them straight.

Also Bob, I would suggest that you need more than your own perceptions to judge the media's treatment of various figures. There have been studies showing that Obama received more scrutiny last lear than McCain. The press' answer on that score is the public knew McCain better. Well now the press has had a lot of time with Obama but only a week on Palin. Of course, they're going to look closely and criticize, especially if she remains unwilling to do interviews with journalists. (People Magazine on 8/29 doesn't count.)

If you want to look at the question of the media more closely, here's a thread with some resources. Most of the one's I cite in it are non-partisan. www.blogcatalog.com/politics/discuss/entry/media-bias
    4. AmmoBob
      mark,

I have no problem going after her on the issues, but all the other BS is just that.

And please don't bring your delusional interpretation of my comments "This this neither the time nor the place for chivalry." into the discussion.

I think that "pit bull with lipstick" is going to show everyone she has what it takes to step above the left's BS.
  16. ttiger
Republicans need a daddy figure telling what to do. Its sad to see Republicans toe the line which is a bunch of lies. Sarah Palin is not right for American. Remember, when you walk into the country club they are not laughing with you, they are laughing at you.

    1. ThomasCSlater
      What's wrong with the Bible?
    2. clioandme
Nothing is wrong with the BIble. Everything is wrong with a politician saying she is doing God's work. She calls her planned gas pipe line just that. Ditto the war in Iraq. Private religion and general non-divisive, religiously inclusive statements in public are fine.
  18. chispeak
I am religious and a woman, but Palin went overboard. Religion and state should be two exclusively separate things, but time and time again, references are made to win over the conservative Christians. She is brutal toward Obama, and her scathing remarks do not sit well with me. She also lacks significant experience to run an entire country, and during that time, has had a variety of complaints against her abuse of power and lack of appropriate financial management.
  19. davet
    chispeak,
she is brutal towards obama???? the liberal media goes into character attacks on palin and her family, including a minor daughter for a week running and she is brutal towards obama??? one of the roles of the VP pick is to go after the other's top dog. so i guess if biden attacks mc cain it is considered okay? i'm actually surprised palin is going after obama because there is not much of a record to attack in the first place. i guess being a community organizer, writing a pair of memoirs, wanting to raise taxes, wanting to get the approval of the united nations before we dress ourselves in the morning, finding it difficult to admit the iraqi surge is working, etc. is accomplishing something....so i guess palin does have some material to work with after all.
  20. Jeunelle
That's right the Liberal media goes into character attacks but somehow I don't remember Obama coming out and attacking her in public.
Yet it's plain for all to see that she attacked Obama unless I missed something.
    1. Linc4Justice
No, he just has his lackeys do all the attacking for him, that way he can make it appear as if he were above it all.

The only one that's is seem pretty interesting in this race is Joe Biden! but i should read more about him.. this is only a first impression
    1. Linc4Justice
If you think a smarmy politician who's been in the senate for 30 years and garnered .5 percent of the vote while running for President is interesting you are in need of some serious therapy.
  22. Jeunelle
@Linc4Justice...Lmao... well I must of missed that but I did hear McCain and now Palin attack Obama many times in the past and in public and so they will attack each other as they are running for the Presidency of the White House.

Look people McCain is a shoe in for the White House.
Your Vote will mean absolutely nothing like it did when I voted for Clinton/Gore.
Sorry to bust your bubble but Miss Cleo is being very accurate.
    1. Linc4Justice
I really wish McCain was a shoo-in, but there are too many people in this country who either want to become Russian citizens or think places like New York and Seattle would look much better if it had a nuclear glow.
    2. xmarks
my problem with McCain is that he thinks U.S. being in war prevents war. McCain wants to topple any country he feels may someday be a treat to us. That is a great way to become a target.

Just for the record (so everyone is perfectly clear about this) both Campbell Brown and Chris Matthews have asked the Republican Pundits several times to give an example of the media "attacking Palin on personal issues" and not one can give an example.

In fact, the epicenter of the controversy was the 'US Weekly' cover story titled 'Babies, Lies and Scandals' and the most important thing anybody needs to know about that article can be found here:

    www.huffingtonpost.com/mara-reinstein/im-voting-for-mccain-and_b_123904.htm...
    1. gmoney
good find and good point shan
    2. Jeunelle
Thank You ShanLeeCook..I too was looking for an example where the Media attacked Palin and I don't remember reading it or hearing it anywhere.

She is a vicious Pit Bull who clearly hates Obama and wants him out of the way.
By her tone in her speech you can clearly hear the vicious public attacks that were made against Obama and I don't like to see our next Vice President of the Usa acting this way period.

Baracuda was her nickname in High School Basketball and I can see she earned that title.
    3. Linc4Justice
NO examples of media attacks??? Read Newsbusters.org just for oh, maybe 300 examples or more of bias and attacks on Palin since she had been selected.

My God, you people are either on drugs or are completely unhinged moonbats. I'm thinking both.
  26. Jeunelle
@Linc4Justice...well you know us little people can't possibly have a brain to figure out when you're pissing on our legs and telling us it's raining.
  27. ShanLeeCook
Linc4Justice - I've seen some of your comments in several of the "Palin" discussions here and I see the kind of character you are so I'm not gonna get into the "unhinged moonbats" bullsh*t.

What I will get into, however, is you posting a link that's supposed to disporve my claim that the media hasn't attacked Palin's personal life but there's not even a single example there, much less the 300 you claimed.

What IS there, is an article (the fourth one) about Andrea Mitchell saying Palin is a good pick for VP, which is ironicall the exact opposite of what you claimed the site would show us about the media.
