I used to have panic attacks on a regular basis until about a year ago when I started therapy.
I blogged about one incident: hope you wont mind me dropping the link.

I remember my first . . . My heart started racing and I was thinking here it is I am going to die. My arms were numb. I stood up kind of weak and shaky to walk. I climbed back into bed with the shivers. I called my Doctor that night and they said I should come in that morning. They did a ekg and found me to be normal, pressure normal other vitals to be in good health as well.

Don't worry about dropping links. Panic Attacks happen world wide and many don't know what to do. While I have been being treated with my doctor I am also getting help through another program and it is working tremendously.

I don't know about Panic attacks, but I do think I get fits of anxiety, which is sort of similar. I've had the weak and shaky legs, sweating, heart racing, and whatnot, but it was in a normal situation, I don't know if it was panic or not, felt more like anxiety to me.

just last night when our security system detected an intruder... a bit panic but thanks to God that the security monitoring staffs and the police responded immediately...
shoot me! shoot me! shoot me!

Yeah, I used to think the same thing with the anxiety attack thing, until I began reading on the topic--which can increase anxiety levels. It's a total fight or flight response that just doesn't shut off. Some how the body programmed itself to not shut off with a particular set of circumstances. And I have learned to reprogram my mind, per say to realize, hey shut down its all okay, your not going to die. It's been a fight, but I am amazed how things have improved. Worried my wife a couple of times.

1995-1996.... goodness gracious I wouldn't wish them on anyone, used to think my head would fall clean off I am not kidding around, it was literally like something in my brain was fizzing, I would sweat, shake, vision would distort and I would think I had to fight to catch my breath, I would always leave the room and fight it with immense anguish, you must simply identify it as soon as it comes, then eventually you will learn to control them.....haven't had one, touch wood, for over 12 years. Good luck but they will go away if you work positively with them. Takes a while but you can rely on the fact that you will succeed and they will eventually stop.

I spent over a year suffering from them. I got to the point that I wouldn't even leave my home for fear of having an attack while I was in public with my kids. I went to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack only to have a doctor tell me that it was all in my head. THAT made it so much better.
I finally took control of my life again, changed my diet, began exercising and have not had an attack in almost a year. No therapy, no drugs. I am pretty darn proud of that. -
Yeah, my doctor and I decided to do a stress test just to convince myself with peace of mind, that I am not on the path to having a heart attack. Once, I had the stress test that doctor told me, well your not going to have a heart attack, in fact you can exercise as hard this test with no worries. He also added that I was not in the best physical condition, so thankfully I began working out and that day felt like a burden had been lifted.

My 19 year-old just started medication for hers. She has trouble breathing, gets shaky, nauseated and her skin gets very clammy.

Most people don't know heart burn indigestion can cause anxiety attacks don't ask me the hows and why's of it but it is all to do with acid and blocking something off....True I swear it pays to note at what times your panic attacks occur

I have had severe panic attacks over the years. What helped me was changing my nutrition and lifestyle. It was amazing the way it was all connected.

My daughter (12 at the time) started getting them after eating in a warm, busy restaurant and she thought she was going to be sick after getting a little too full. I was scared because she would not eat normally for about 6 months (and lost 10 lbs.). This was not an anorexic thing at all. I ordered the linden method jr. for her and it took awhile but she is much better. She listens to the meditation cd before going to sleep.
I also had a few attacks when I was younger. Feelings of dying and almost calling someone to take me to the hospital. Not anything I ever want to revisit. -
being bipolar, I find myself in this situation often. those who have never experienced it, tend to think that its all in the head. to me, its almost worthy of death. panic attacks are so horrible. but thats why god invented xanax...

Yes, others don't know what to do, and your their, or maybe not all their spacing and freaking out, even looking in the mirror with information all download. They ask you if they can help you in some way and you have to make the effort to tell them, because really your freaking out, "Its okay, there's nothing you can really do." In your mind your thinking, "So, stop asking! Nothing's going to help."

Hi Matt. I have some information about panic attacks on my blog.
What I would say from what I have read is that you do sound quite worried about what has been happening, that's not surprising panic attacks are frightening, they are meant to be. They are designed to slow you down, in my opinion they are almost always caused by stress. Now also reading what you have said, it does not mean to say that because you are stressed that you have a heart problem. Its never a bad idea to have a test, but that was clear, so that is of course very good news. What you should be looking at is the cause of the panic attacks, they happen for a reason to slow you down. Was your life stressed? The period of 18 months before your first panic attack is the key. I could go on, but its all on my blog

I am more than happy to talk to you via email if you want to, that's a free service I offer and you can find that link also on the blog.
Understanding what is causing this, can then be some quite simple changes to rectify the situation. Yes I agree, in some cases it may be quite radical changes, but understanding the problem an important part of that process.

I don't have them but my boyfriends exgirl friend used to get them all the time. . .well i don't know if thats what they were exactly but every time she got too worked up she would start gasping for air and breathing really hard. It also happened to her once when she was really cold prom night at the beach.

Bayho, Wow, that seems pretty difficult to deal with. I hope she is okay now.

I think a lot of that is mental. Just keep practicing whatever causes it. Probably after time you will be able to do it without an attack. It is like giving a speech in school. I remember how nervous some kids were and couldn't do it. But after they did it, they felt better and didn't panic any longer.

Hi
I have always suffered with them unfortunately
I have gotten worse with them over last the year or so, but I have put it down to suffering with 24/7 tinnitus , chronic pain, living a fairly isolated life, and I think I am starting to go through menopause (sorry if TMI)
I cope by typing away on blogs, forums etc, being around my pets, taking photos, and just recently I went onto some mild AD's/sleeping tablets (as a last resort)
I have tried natural approaches/medicines, and sometimes It has helped.
The latest problem I am going through atm is Agoraphobia . I've never experienced it before until recently as a result of my severe tinnitus
