You guys notice that there's less and less people interested in free giveaways? I've offered free original content for people's blogs written to their topic specifications--zilch. I've offered a 2 for 1 link exchange where I link two of my blogs to one of their blogs--minimal response. What gives? Is the recession forcing people to spend less time blogging/managing their online properties?

Has the recession impacted your ability to take advantage of free offers or swap deals? What do you do find time for your online projects?

I think the internet has taught us that free is a business model. We are used to it now.

Just like everything else....if it's used enough, it has to be retired.

Maybe it is about the Branding. When small people give a big free giveaway, people don't want to take that. But when Microsoft, Apple or some kind of bigger company give a small free gift, they will surely queuing for that. Reality huh?

The word "free" is regarded as akin to a swindle: marketing has become a tired, repetitive business and now people treat it, rightly, with suspicion. I personally am sick of the spam, and the "free" offers contained therein.

Yes there is. Win Win is possible. Don't believe that win win is impossible.

I find that people respond better when they have to paid something. I think it comes from the idea that free is usually too good to be true.

Well the thing is......... there are some things that are free on the internet that is truly good too. It's just a matter of finding them.

Like free computer security software. You just need to look around.

I have been finding it to be true as well. I offered freebies for my newsletter signup and I only got 2 responses.

I think win win is possible as you say, but too often free is nothing more than a hook that doesn't really mean free at all. The term has been misused so much by so many who will only give you something for "free" if you buy something else or take some other kind of action that they are looking for. Obviously, they don't know that free is not a trade of any kind, and it means you are giving something away with absolutely no consideration for yourself. That means that if you are giving something away, the recipient is not required to do anything to get it or pay for something else to get it.
