Do you think it will ever happen that we make contact with people from other worlds?

I was reading somewhere that if there really were people on other planets, they would already be here. The argument was that because space is so vast, there would be so many planets that the chance of one of them achieving interstellar space flight would be virtually certain. Therefore, the argument continued, since they are NOT here, then either they don't exist, or interstellar flight is impossible.

Do you agree?

There may be some of you who think yes they ARE already here, but they are just not telling us so.

Do you think a meeting between humans and beings from another planet would be horrible or pleasant?

I think that there is a good probability that there may be life on other planets, but I don't think they have visited earth. I don't think that just because the universe is so vast is good justification to say that one of them may have reached interstellar space flight. We know nothing about the intelligence of the life, they could be plants for all we know.

Yes I agree, it seems a big leap from one to the other. However, there's not only the vastness of space to consider, but also the immensity of time since Big Bang. But yeah, it does seem like a weak link anyway. I can't remember who said it, I think it was Feynmann or someone like that.

Meybe the are undeveloped scientifically/technically/industrially etc. like some of the indegenous folks we have here on earth right this very moment. To some of them we're gods.....from outer worlds....

I'd like to think so too.

I have doubts we're the only life in the universe. It's just too big.

If they came here one day, do you think they would say,

"People of Earth, we come in peace!"

    or,

"People of Earth, throw down your puny weapons, they are useless against us!"

Or would they perhaps say something different?

Couls it be that there are people on other planets, but because they live so far away, it would take too long to get here for a visit, so they just can't be bothered?

I used to work for a guy that I'm assuming was an alien. He had apparently taken "human being lessons" on the home world... and was a D student

To turn it around, our radio signals have been going out into space for almost 100 years. That means stars within a 200 light year bubble around the Earth would be aware of our existence. The Milky Way (which is an average sized galaxy) is 100,000 light years across. As Douglas Adams put it, "Space is big. Really big. I mean, you may think it's a long way down to the chemist, but that's just peanuts compared to space."

That's my response as well. The fact that space is so vast, and contains so many planets, argues against one other planet happening upon ours and making contact.

If you've ever read about Atlantis or Lemuria, along with the astounding description of the preciseness of the structure of the pyramids, you'd start to believe that there WAS and IS other life out there besides ourselves. What we DON'T know keeps the world fascinating, at least in my book

Hey viruses are probably alien life forms. They are just too weird........ and evil. And are neither plant or animals.

And I think of course intelligent aliens could have visited here. We don't know squat really. Just think what we will know a few hundred years from now (if we don't kill ourselves off first) A thousand years??? Just think of civilizations that could be a millions years more advanced than ours. Yes I think aliens could and have visited our planet.

I think there's a big probability that there are other beings out there. Because if there is none, God just wasted a lot of space in the galaxy ...
