Just thought I would start this up.
Well when people start first @ blogging, they usually tell themselves they would blog personally (my experience). But then as our blog become more and more popular, we are more likely to get pressured at lessening random ramblings posts and start posting really valuable content.. so then i originally thought my blog is a personal blog until i started reading my archive post and realized 'heck' this is not a personal blog!
and so i start a new blog w/c is really about personal nonsense stuffs.. My piece of advice is, start a personal blog, i mean a really personal one w/no intentions of getting readers, making money or what.. For me it makes me feel more relaxed and somehow relieves the stress from everyday work.. And that's the essence of the 'real blogging' thing ryt?...
opinions?

What you didn't add was that the blog should be completely anonymous to be of any real value. You cannot open up about your real thoughts and feelings 100% of the time if you are constantly worried that your boss/mom/spouse/friend/colleagues are reading it. "Sebastyne" began as my online alias for my completely anonymous personal website. Then it kind of exploded and took over my life, but now that everyone knows who Sebastyne is, I can't be as blunt and honest about my thoughts as I started out to be.
What can be annoying is the "online schizophrenia" it causes, when you have one site personality for one group of people and one for another group.
Having said that, I'm going to start one of those again. They are really really too much fun. Thank you for reminding me what it was all about!! -
@melvind
Hi there. I see two blogs that have been approved and registered in the BC Directory on your profile page. Neither one seems to be the one you have linked to in the OP of this Shameless Blog Promotion. Why is that? Have you submitted your personal blog to Admin?
I also notice you are using a female avatar even though this is what is on your BC profile Page - Melvin / 19, Male /
I'm also wondering why you have made that choice?
In the OP of this thread you have said: My piece of advice is, start a personal blog, i mean a really personal one w/no intentions of getting readers, making money or what.. For me it makes me feel more relaxed and somehow relieves the stress from everyday work.. And that's the essence of the 'real blogging' thing ryt?..."
Then why is it that you give this advice and do NOT follow it yourself? You have gave a dollar sign with wings as a logo on your "personal blog"? And "your personal blog" is sub-titled "Its a Personal Thing About Making Money?". Also the sidebar is full of advertising?
I don't get it. Are you putting us on, or what?-
Well first, is that someone has added the blog here in blogcatalog so I cant add it anymore.. I tried contacting the support about it but to no avail.
About the pic. Yes Im a male and thats the pic of a girl I deeply love. And I hope it isnt that of a big deal.
Third is that if you read that certain post in the blog, you'd get it better. What I stated there (in the post) is that I intended melvinblog.com as a personal blog at first but kinda became a make money online blog for all the good reasons and so I started a really personal blog at url.something.
So its pretty obvious that the blog above is not a personal blog, but a business blog. (again you can read it). I really do hope you're getting it now (or I explain my side properly)
Thanks, -
Thank you, Timethief, for your perspective. You make a good point. How can we feel free and open with others when those "others" are not the person they present as themselves?
Melvin, I appreciate your discussion topic. It sparked my being here. But your response to Timethief seems a little vague. Are you going to be "fully open" here?

Yeah why is that melvin? Anyway, I have a techie blog, but my primary concern is not about making money anymore, i am more focused on putting my blog on the top.
-
@rivy, not really sure how can I explain it more.. Are you pertaining to the profile pic of me or the topic of the post.
Again, the topic is about personal blogs and why I think people should have one. If you read my post, you'd see that I am an example.. I started blogging and thought I would do it personally until I realized its not (so the link above is not a personal blog).. What i did is created a separate personal blog that is really all about personal stuffs.
Think about it, shoemoney.com started jeremyschoemaker.com because he realized he cant post nonsense stuffs on his popular blog anymore ryt? Its just like the same case to me..
Hope you got it. -
I agree! I recently started a personal blog and I post it when I get the chance to! I think it's a great outlet!

well, personlly, I kind of like my personal blog. which is just that. personal. I only write what I feel like when I feel like it and I could honestly care less whether anyone ever reads it. I do pretty much agree with the disparagement of the guy with the girl icon thing. Lately I have changed most of my icons to pictures of things rather than of me, and I don't by any means think that every forum poster should use a photograph of themselves. But when the picture is a girl and the poster is a guy it is at the very least needlessly confusing to readers.

I think blogs are always personal. Even you start writing about something else I think you cannot stop adding your personal views on it. You will produce good content on what you love or what you know better.
If you start a personal blog without specifying any other related niche to it still your will write things you like you enjoyed or you experienced. Eventually majority of the things you wrote will be going in one direction.
Most of the time I find it hard to differentiate is my blog personal or just writing about computer and internet related hack.
Melvin actually you gave the best explanation for that.
