I'm looking for ideas. Anyone hear or see any ads for products that try to portray themselves as environmentally conscious?

As an example, we have a local radio ad here in the Northwest that starts out with a voice-over berating a woman for getting out her fans for the summer, when she should be purchasing a air-conditioner. The voice-over goes on to mention how energy efficient this new AC is, and that it is therefore "good for the environment".

This is the NORTHWEST we're talking about. I got no beef with AC, only there's no way that an AC unit can be better for the environment than opening the window and using a fan.

Any other examples you've heard?

The ultimate has to be "carbon credits," which is nothing more than buying away your guilt.

You could call corn ethanol in some cases a phony environmental product. Trading food for fuel is not a great idea.

Ethanol is not the answer to out fuel problems. However, the type corn used in it's production was never bound for the table.
It is used mostly in livestock feeds. Corn residue from ethanol is still used in livestock feeds, it's not dis guarded after fermentation. Don't blame ethanol production for failed wheat and rice crops caused by weather conditions.

I see and hear business of all kinds trying to cash in on 'green living' or enticing you to buy 'green' products. If it seems to green to be true then it is!
