Why is it that no other nations in the free world have come forward to stop the pirates? We have made our line in the sand and no what. Do not mess with US. We must make a stand on this. Where does the money from the ransoms go? Why are these great business that own the ships not said to the world HELP US stop this. Makes you wonder why. They pay up and move on. What if it were off our own coast and a ship load of Wal Mart cheap China products were stopped? Would we stand by and loose our shipment of tennis shoes or forbid a shipment of Ipods. It would be war full out kick ass war. Does all of Simolia have Ipods? Iphones or such with all the money paid they should.
Who is arming these pirates? They get money and drown with full pockets. What a joke on the world. Just a few thoughts on this.

Instead of being outraged by headlines why don't you look a just a little deeper and try to see the real story of what's going on there?

It is strange that only two people have responded to my rants. Both of you seem to be in defense of pirates. My point is that the wrong of taking the ships does not make it right to hold hostages with threat of death if the ransom is not paid. If you do not understand what I am saying than that is your opinion of the pirates. As for not knowing the truth the article you said to look at. I did so and still see nothing making what they are doing right. So the world is stealing their fish. Then let the pirates take fishing ships. Let them now buy ships to do their own fishing. If their beaches are polluted by the worlds ships than they should be outraged and with the money they have take it to world court and have it stopped. I totally disagree with their actions. Also as I said DO NOT TOUCH THE US ships. Let the rest of the world then support this nation that seems to be to lazy to work and support their own people with the money they have stolen from others. Great way to help your people.

You know some of us are not sitting on our arse all day waiting to answer to every single rant that a blogger comes up with on BC.

Maybe the pirates need to read up on their history of what happened to the barbary pirates when they went after US ships

Interesting that the pirates haven't killed anyone yet. Quite different than the normal raids that go on in the global south, where cruise ships will just be massacred and the boats taken...
did you ever think that poverty is the real culprit here? Desperation on the Somalian's part is causing them to react adversely and, to an extent, disdainfully.
Fight poverty, not piracy.

While I agree about poverty it is not justification for violence, extortion,murder and threats of murder etc. THe irony here is that they are attacking aid supply ships to the area, so it is like biting the hand that feeds you.
I would also ask how we can fight poverty when that poverty is a result of fighting between rival clans/warlords/militias. The pirates are criminal opportunists who are using the vacuum in Somalia to do what they want.

English is my first voice. Rants and ravings are just a way to get response. I am really German but was born in the US. We have lost respect of the world. Sometimes the past is forgotten by many and something has to happen to awaken us. I guess I may be one of those Americans. But what are you? What is one of those Americans? Kill em all and let GOD sort em out was once said in a time of war. Did not get us any where then and will not now. We must understand why their actions make them do what they do. You that say you do not understand. I and not trying to be understood at all. I only rambling on what comes to mind. Clouded as it seems. It seems like everyone is in defense of the poor people that gives them the right to take what they want. All they want is food. So will the millions let the pirates buy food. They would become idols like Robin Hood.
Their names would be forever written in history Movies would be made.

I guess the prospect of another Iraq War scenario spooks them out. Force is now the last resort.
