Topics: and you, except you, fun, holiday, meet up, no weirdos, random
Last September I travelled around a bit on the east coast of USA staying with various blog buddies and had a great time.
So much so I want to do it again, but a wee bit more adventure added to it. I have roped in a few folks already and we are compiling a wish list of stuff.
1. I want mountains, rivers and lakes, so I can go white water rafting and other fun stuff like that.
2. Log Cabin or camping.
3. Zip lining (stillthinking's idea)
4. Beer!
Time of year?
I am thinking late summer 2010.
Destination?
Not decided yet, but majority rules kind of thing.
Who is playing?
Me
Stillthinking
Thriftshopromantic
Who else wants to play?
The more the merrier if you can tear yourself away from the BC forums

Cabins: Colorado State Parks have cabins and yurts, while KOA campgrounds have their Kabin rental program. There are also private cabins around all the Colorado National Parks.

I'll second Colorado. And if you do end up there I could be tempted to meet (As I hope to be living there).
-
For what you're looking for, it sounds like you want Colorado or Utah, but I warn you, you're getting awful close to Dead Rooster country.
-
Stillthinking -- I've never been ziplining, but if Bruce & Indy are into it, count me in!
Claire -- A hot air balloon would be awesome through the mountains of Co or Ut, but the trouble is getting a recovery team to pick you up when you land which might prove difficult if there aren't any roads (and there probably isn't out there).

I am all for white water rafting and zip lining! Two things off my bucket list and after the year I am having, I need some adventure to look forward to next year!!!

Am not!
I actually hold a hard grudge against this particular brewery but I think they make the best beer ever

I'd absolutely love to go, but I could only do it for a weekend - hubby's work schedule doesn't allow him to drop off the kids at day care in the AM, as they don't open that early. I'd have to fly out Friday and back Sunday night. I'm so not bringing the fam...unless CA is babysitting.
-
I expect someone to bring a guitar and lead us in sing-a-longs. Camping is not camping without singing around a fire.
-
Actually, talking about his has cheered me immensely! I feel like I have something really fun to look forward to and everything we looked at so far as been fairly affordable!
I can just see myself hiking, building a fire, rafting, zipping!
and singing too....! -
I recommend Rocky Mountain National Park and environs around Estes Park, Lake Grandby and Winter Park.

Whitewater rafting: www.estes-park.com/go/raft.html
I will join you for rafting and maybe some moose watching.
If we can get 15 people or more to participate, I recommend the YMCA of the Rockies cabins at Snow Mountain Ranch.

Oh, and we must make s'mores.-

This is the rafting trip I found.
@gtally, Where is this in CO? -
Still gotta go with North Park and Lake Granby.

Mt Princeton Hot Springs are also in this area.

I like the yurts at this place. It's in Buena Vista where the zip lining and the Arkansas river rafting are.

You can't do that I'm not allowed back in America. When they threw me out of Gitmo (For the constant daily petitioning to be allowed more time to enjoy the sexual humiliation and water boarding sessions before the naked pyramid sessions) they said if I ever came back they would make me a citizen and give me a house next to GW.

@crpitt
Colorado is gorgeous and I'm sure you will enjoy it.
*eadesk* I messed up the positioning -- sorry
Time for my only coffee of the day. -
I would love to see you again, Claire, and so would Punky!
If and when this goes down, I can either try and plan to meet up with everyone somewhere - and of course, everyone is welcome to stay here (depending on where we happen to be at that time
).
I'd love to get together and meet up with everyone. -
You know, I'll be passing through both Rocky Mountain National Park and South Park with friends on some day trips later this summer. I can take lots of pictures, then post them on my flickr account so that everyone can get a foretaste of what to expect.

on a slightly different subject, what would the interest level be in a BC conference? we have been pondering the idea of doing a 3-day conference with speakers, workshops, and of course parties. I don't know if something big like a conference would be better or something smaller where a small group of bloggers get together at a retreat location for a more personal workshop experience....thoughts?
Oh and so I don't totally jack the thread with my question...I agree Colorado is a great idea. The Rockies are gorgeous.-
I've wanted to do a BC party for ages now, but no one, and I mean no one is convinced it should be done on the east coast.
*sigh* What's a girl gotta do to get some bloggers out to party around here?!
(Oh, did you say "conference" like as in lectures and stuff? Only if it's an open bar the entire time
) -
This one is relatively low www.zipadventures.com/

Cut and paste the full link. BC does not seem to like it:

Grumble. Try this instead:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Park_(disambiguation)
It's listed under geographical areas. -

Wow, I just mapquested the route I would have to take to get there from here.
31 hours on the road, baby!-
Well, we don't actually do much in the way of "choppers" anyway. they're more like bobbers. I know I do not like the stretched out frames and super long springers (although with new technology, some of the bikes can be stretched quite a bit, and still maintain sturdy handling).
I am finishing a little sporty right now, actually. OK I was supposed ot start the fender tonight, but I'm being uber lazy
-
Well I'll tell ya, I'm not impressed with the stuff that OCC is putting out, and even some of WCC bikes have become stuck in that same....phase.
Personally, I want a 40's Harley - kick start, bobbed fender, no ferring (sp?), but a little more slender than the average bike. I may have to build a look-alike, though
-
It's all better now : ) He should savor this moment, it's rare when I admit to being wrong
I think it all worked out for the better, anyway. He was getting his eyes dialated today, and then he had to go to work. The doctor told him it could take over 4 hours for his eyesight to return to normal - how was he supposed to work like that?
They rescheduled for his day off. Much better.

You could try Alaska...
Alaska is absolutely WONDERFUL for so many things.
Fishing, Rafting, Hiking, Nature viewing, Gold Panning, Camping, Sight Seeing - etc. etc. etc.
It's one of the last true wilderness areas left.
Thousands of Rivers... Ton of stuff to do...
Helicopter rides are a blast...
But - if I had my druthers...
I'd do - Parts of Alaska - Parts of Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado.... Then I'd hit Minnesota/Wisconsin... And try to make it to New Orleans to see how things are rebuilding.
That would be my trip of the US... LOL! -
To the folks that haven't chimed in yet, what is stopping you?
1. Hells no! I am not meeting people off the interwebs.
2. Bit strapped for cash at the mo, tis a recession you know!
3. Don't want to travel that far.
4. Urghh camping. -
You may be right this crowd seem a bit rowdy. Read something about strippers and can't have that around my kids.
But here is the link to New River Gorge www.nps.gov/neri-
Since it's summer I should have grass by then (I hope).
Link to the rafting www.nps.gov/neri/planyourvisit/whitewater.htm

New River Gorge may be one of the oldest rivers in the world.
New River Gorge National River includes 53 miles of free-flowing New River, beginning at Bluestone Dam and ending at Hawks Nest Lake -
Through a weird quirk of fate I have an emergency trip to the mountains and about 24 hours to kill between two unpleasant work-related meetings. So I plan to kill some time by shooting a bunch of pictures of the South Park area, then posting a photo-stream to help all of you in your decision making.

I need a adventurous trip, but lots of dark skinned girls, beaches and lager will do nicely for me.....
-
Well - maybe me and the hubby might come up and meet you all... That might be on the planning boards... I've got this court case to get through - but it could be over with by then ----- ORRRRR... we could be massively embroiled by then.
We shall see. -
I am too far away to come, but here's a suggestion of something I do when I know I am going somewhere (I hate dragging guidebooks around with me)
In my notebook I sketch out a map of where I am going. I put in the big towns and then I find the things I am interested in seeing (things I don't want to get home and realize I missed and was so close to) and I make a list of them in my notebook and give each a number and put the number on the map.
Then when I look at my sketch map I see that the 'tiger sanctuary' is near where I am ... -
