Since your presentation of each case lacks information regarding the circumstances surrounding them, it is impossible to formulate an intelligent, rational, germane response.

Regarding OJ, the answer is simple: he was acquitted of the murders and he was convicted for stealing the property of another. He got sentenced for the crime for which he was convicted. You may believe he committed the murders, but we did not sit in the court nor were we in on the jury deliberations. Those people were there and they came to the unanimous conclusion that he didn't do it and I, for one, don't think I have enough factual information to the contrary to contradict them.

Armchair quarterbacking is easy...and often wrong.

So you were the only person on the planet that didn't watch the OJ case on TV?

Yeah, apparently when you kill someone, it's not a serious crime if you are famous or an athlete. But god forbid you shoot yourself in the leg... that deserves 2 years in prison!

Again...the circumstances are not revealed: maybe the guy was involved in a bank robbery or he was threatening his ex-girlfriend or he was shooting at a house full of people or any one of a number of activities in which other people were threatened and endangered and he was just a klutz and shot himself instead of others. Everything in the OP is reported out of context and if an intelligent response to a question is to be made, more than "he shot himself in the leg" is required in order to formulate one.

As far as OJ goes, I watched very little of it...slowly unfolding train wrecks hold no fascination for me. I did, however, watch Mark Furman's testimony and I didn't believe him for one second. However, since I was not in the jury room (and neither were you) and I was not privy to the conversations and impressions of the most important people in the trial, I must withhold my judgment and accept that of the people who DID argue the evidence between themselves and rendered the decision.

But in answer to the OP's question, OJ was incarcerated for the crime for which he was convicted and not incarcerated for the crime for which he was acquitted...that's the way it is supposed to work.

Sentencing always includes consideration of the risk to re-offend. While it may seem ludicrous that someone would only get a few days in jail for accidentally killing someone while drunk behind the wheel of a car, if the judge deems that the person is unlikely to repeat the action, s/he is inclined to show leniency. On the other hand, a person who fires off a weapon and happens to be a bad aim may may still have shown greater intent to injure or kill someone.

It rarely makes sense when we look at the crime and the sentencing on paper in absence of all the facts and circumstances.

Plaxico Burress who literally shot(only) himself in the foot has been sentenced to two years in prison.

He wasn't sentenced, he took the 2 years over the 3 1/2 mandatory.
Once they went to the grand jury and lost, he had no chance.
Bloomberg was on this from the beginning.

Plaxico, carried a gun across state lines, discharged a gun in public and was carrying a concealed un- NY licensed weapon.

He'll be out in 20 months and should be placed in a safe zone.

Michael Vick paid a hefty price for his involvement in dog fighting yet boxing promoters and commissions are not held accountable for allowing boxers such as Ali to be severely injured for profit...

I don't remember Ali getting hung, or beaten or electrocuted to preform. Oh right, he picked his profession and got paid well for it. And Vicks hefty price? Do you really think he over paid for his crimes?

As far as OJ goes, I do not believe a man can turn the mother of his children into a Pez dispenser. No matter how made he was. Everyone looks at the Nicole angle, maybe someone was mad at Goldman. Ever think of that?

The U.S.A. legal system makes absolutely no sense at all...

    But we all know that.
