Is it art? is it smut?

Is it more than just boobs, butts and landing strips?

In your opinion is it a tasteful magazine?

Women: would you ever want to appear in it?

Men: Would you be comfortable with your wife/daughter posing for it?

If I had the body I would.

Imagine the parties you'd get invited to.

However I really cant stand the girls of the playboy mansion show - first off all the good bits a blurred here, second of all I hate seeing how the rich live.

In answer to my own question - I wouldnt mind my wife doing it, I wouldnt mind my daughter doing it (but I wouldnt want to see any unclothed photos).

"Girls Next Door" is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. Did you know that the majority of the shows viewers are women?

I used to enjoy both the pictorials and articles. It used to have great reads with interesting articles & the pictorials were tasteful. I also dated one of the photographers/makeup artists for these mags so was widely exposed to the industry. I haven't seen it in a while but last I saw the air brushing was to much and the article content had deteriorated.
Would I be comfortable with my wife or daughter posing for it?
I would be supportive whatever their choice was. I'm an open and free person and try to be that with others no matter who they are. To much oppression, religious zealotry & distorted viewpoints on the body and sexuality has corrupted the mindsets of individual perspective.

      Well said,

Although for me Im sure id be more "ok" with my daughter in particular doing playboy rather than doing something else thats a little more porn orientated rather than being just a "nude" magazine. Although I agree, I would be supportive of the choice if they felt that strongly about it

I used to 'read' playboy when i was still 'in'.
    1. Stillthinking
Does that mean you are "out?"
    2. Sam1982
So what were your views on it back then?
  4. celticmusicfan
    @still yeah I am out
@Sam Well it thought it was hip. The women were portrayed not in a tasteful manner. I don't think it is smut all along. It's more like a glorification of a female body. Those Bo Derek pic and Marilyn Monroe features were great. It didn't do anything for me but eathetically it was appealing.

Interesting, Its good to hear your point of view though seeing it from a male perspective that possible sees the images for the photos rather than simply just the female nudity

I think Playboy is tasteful than Penthouse. And yeah there are lots of articles not even related to sex . For instance this 1991 playboy article that I cam across talked about the war and oil issues in the middle east.
  6. Sam1982
"playboy article that I came across" hehehehehe awesome choice of words there hahahahaha

But yeah I used to think that those articles were put there for those moments when you almost get busted by your parents and then you can flick to those pages so that it looks like you're reading a magazine on war or whatever.

I agree on your playboy vs penthouse point of view though - although personal preference would be penthouse I have to admit

For the record...Penthouse switched their format over the past 4 years moving toward a Maxim with nudity format making it more appealing to the set that was driving the Maxim, FHM crowd. It actually was much more tasteful and became more interesting than Playboy because of the diverse "guy" content - ie sport, food, drinks, cars, etc. They may be moving back toward more risque format though in the past year. Why do I know? I don't read it I just know the principals involved in the magazine.

      I dont read them either......

But from what i've seen there are all sorts of versions of penthouse which range from normal to black label to couples, to more story orientated. If penthouse was more like playboy then I would consider it more tasteful, however it seems as though penthouse is more of a downstairs focused magazine compared to playboy which is more focused upstairs....so im told

However the women in penthouse seem to be more natural looking, compared to the over airbrushed barbie doll look in the playboy magazine.

My point being, the playboy model is (in my opinion) not always the type of look that a man finds attractive on a day to day basis.

I enjoy looking at them all. but I don't buy them.

are you the guy at news stand who always gets told "this isnt a library" or are you the guy who steals the copies out of the dumpster that dont have covers on them?
    2. dbowles1017
If I'm at some ones house, and they have one, Ill usually read it.

      Libraries are for nerds.
    3. celticmusicfan
Hmmm..sounds like guilt to me lol.
    4. Sam1982
Libraries are for people who arent internet savvy and enjoy reading books that others have read on the toilet

I blame libraries for the spread of most of todays infections
    5. dbowles1017
      Guilt?

sam- good point... now I really wont be visiting any
    6. Sam1982
Further to my point, how many libraries have a cleaning or sanitization process put in place for returned books - last time i checked there werent any.
  8. celticmusicfan
Yes perfection is not natural lol. Ok to add my two cents here on my part. I prefer the natural look(with frickles and all) than the all too perfect Calvin Klien types. It simply doesn't do for me.
    1. Sam1982
Im with you on that one - minimal make up and airbrushing and even real breasts I find much more attractive
  9. celticmusicfan
I actually found Stephen King's Playboy interview inside the library in hardbound lol.
    1. Sam1982
So it was a page from the magazine or just a snippet that he'd included in one of his books?
  10. celticmusicfan
You know what? I could not remember because it was way back 1996
    1. Sam1982
Haha saying 1996 was "way back" makes me feel old
  11. celticmusicfan
Really? Oh boy ! 1980 for me is just like the other day. That makes me feel ancient
