Topics: blogging tips
I have a new blog for fifteen students doing a Web Development Diploma which I am currently teaching on.
I would love it if each person here left one Web or Blogging Tip.
Please add:
1. Your name (or web name)
2. Your Blog/site address if you want to
3. Your One Super Blogging Web / Tip
Once we get a good selection I'll post them all at
my work blog which I have just started at webbusinessblog.wordpress.com, it's only 5 days old , but we're going to do a lot of testing.
I will post the information gathered and get the students to discuss it and visit your blogs
Thanks Tony Hogan

I'm not much on blogging tips and I'm full of Sangria but here goes.
Always have an about page to introduce yourself to the people reading you. An on the fence reader might use an about page to decide whether to bookmark you or not. The lack of an about
page often makes up my mind. It doesn't have to be personal, but put a little of yourself into it, whether you use your real name or not.
And please at least try on the grammar and spelling.

i have 2,
don't have background music as a default... you can make it an option it often deters readers
post on a consistent basis, readers are more likely to follow if they can know how often to expect your posts, e.g. once a week or every three days or even once a month. if you post irregularly, followers will miss information or think Wtf? this guys is all over the place. -
3 tips.
this should be an obvious tip but always validate your site - validator.w3c.org
research new technologies so you can best fit your need
if you need a picture gallery, explore options
if you need file manager, explore options
don't settle for something that doesn't work the way you want
don't be afraid to let an idea simmer. I have surprised myself many times if I just think about what I want to do for a while and save myself re-coding and re-writing. Let the solutions come to you, just think about it

I don't know about the programming or layout aspects but I'll give a couple tips I think are useful to me.
If you want your blog to be well followed and receive high hit counts work hard. Get your blog addres out there. Find as many sites to post it on as you can. Join in discussion groups make people se it. Use twitter. Why not, it's free and it works.

Blogging Tip
When deciding for a blog topic, choose the one that you are most interested and knowledgeable at. Most blogs fail because the blogger somehow lose interest along the way. This is why blogging about something you're interested at will help you stay focussed and motivated. You'll also have a better chance at success.

Similar lines to Rocky's tip, write about what's closest to your heart. For one thing you will find it easier, updates will be more frequent. But I advise against daily updates. This is bound to be, at times, automated content, and might well dilute the subject material. Think about your readership target, also. Information overload is not only a danger for a bloggers learning curve, but how many readers can cope with daily updates, with everything else they have to do...
Good luck with your new blog, Tony. -
Wow, some great tips already, I hope your students are ready for all this
Anok Kropotkin

When you are writing, think foremost about your intended audience, and write to them, not above or below them. (that's true for any writing, by the way, but it's a good tip none the less).
Pair that with a reasonably quick and friendly inviting response to comments in your comments section and you will gain readers and contributors, not just hits and statistics. Which is really the goal. Getting readers and interactive followers. -
My tip is: Don't buy this software and get it banned.
It seem some are purchasing software to finagle the system causing spam or junk articles in article directorys. This is pi---ing me off. Now the regular hard working article writer can not sumbit hand written articles to new article directories. HELP..Get this software banned..!!
I appoligize if I have offended.
-
I don't play blogging games. Article writing is hard work for me.I don't think it is funny. The people using this software are clogging up the system. Check the directories! Maybe....all article writers should pay to have articles submitted to the directories.. No more free anything!!!
Sorry but this software should be annoying to honest hard working article writters.
It would be hard to pin point one person selling this software. I got an email today from someone wanting to sell me this software. From what I can gather, the software takes one article and shifts all words around to make many articles to get into the search engines. I have to actually think to write my articles.
I hope this isn't confusing. I will deal personally with the email I got. That is no problem:) -
@acousticguitarist...I am sincere...My inspirational tip for bloggers comes from personal experience...I haven't purchased that software and I don't ever intend to. I deleted the link and the email. I have to say it...Save your hard earned cash. When you come across software like I was talking...DON"T BUY IT. It will only cause more problems. Take the time to hand write your articles. It seems like work but it will pay off in the long run. Try to blog (free).. as in don't spend your hard earned cash on something you can do for free. I have wasted too much money on these types of things in the past.
I believe that software was a scam... Sorry...I had to say it...Have a great week!

Hello, my blogging name is Book Calendar.
My web address is: www.bookcalendar.blogspot.com
Put your contact information at the top of your side bar where it is easily visible. If you want to be contacted include more than one way to get in touch with you, email, instant messaging, etc. The more ways that a blogger can communicate the better. -
Name: legbamel
I actually have a tip for each of my blogs.
Blog: www.one-step-forward.net
Tip: Proofread. If you can catch 90% of your spelling errors and awkward wording by taking a second read-through (or, better yet, having someone else read it) you'll be miles ahead of the slapdash bloggers who can't be bothered. Readers like to be able to understand your posts.
Blog: not-pop-jukebox.com
Tip: Write your passion. If you have something, like music in my case, about which you have strong feelings and some knowledge, or at least enough interest to enjoy researching every few days, then you'll have a topic about which your readers can feel your interest. If you're having to force yourself to blog and have no interest in your posts, you're only wasting your time and that of people who end up at your blog. -

"Crazy Tom"

I would recomend the use of proper spelling and sentence structure. Avoid the use of slang or acronyms that others may not understand. However, if you do use slang or acronyms, make sure to explain what they mean. This way your reader will learn something and will most likely come back to read again. -
My tips are as follows:
1. Encourage reader comments by asking your readers what they think about the topic you are blogging about.
2. Always respond to the comments on your blog--of course not all commenters return but I have had quite a few that told me that it meant a lot to them that I answered each individually.
3. Don't have peripheral content that is distracting to the primary purpose of your blog (which should be the posted topics, imo). For example, don't have tons of widgets that don't make sense to the purpose of your blog, such as a paypal when you aren't selling anything on your blog, or other strange widgets that take up too much resources, causing pages to load s-l-o-w-l-y.
4. Write with passion. If you are passionate about your topics, your readers will sense it.

I've found that adding a visual element to posts helps. It's not a requirement, but usually the entries where I have a picture or illustration at the top seem to get more comments.

My tip would be to blog about what you love, but don't stop at that. Take out time to know more about the subject you blog about. If possible, become an expert at what you blog about. Most people love blogs that are informative, and new information is almost always interesting. -

Explanation & Examples Of Good Blogs
www.blogcastor.com/explanation-examples-of-good-blogs/ -
Before hitting the publish button at least think twice and run a spell check. Also try your best to make your article error free. Always check the presence of typing errors. Write short sentences to avoid or minimize grammatical errors.
Always install the 'About me' Gadget and provide your Contact details. Try to follow each comments and answer them personally without any cliche sentences. -
I used to be a Cold Fusion developer. Before that I was an editor. These tips are intended to apply both to writing code and writing essays.
Never be satisfied with your first effort. Your work can always be simpler, cleaner, more economical.
Check, check and recheck again. Then go over it again the next day just to be sure. -
There's some valuable information discussed here. I think your students will benefit from them, especially the one by GabrielGadfly! Tell your students to be consistent and watch for spelling errors! My blog is new, but if you find it useful, add it vblog.v-notes.com

Oh, how about another tip?
Every once in a while, have a guest writer come in. Either someone with a slightly different style or polar opposite point of view. I think it's great and refreshing for your readers, and for you as a writer. Try writing something from the opposite point of view as well - it'll keep your work from getting stale. -
I guess the most basic thing is to blog about your passion otherwise you'll ran out of motivation and things to write about. Find you own style when choosing a layout- pick a base layout and work on it, make your own banner/font etc...in other words : PERSONALISE !
and don't overwhelm readers with too many adverts, it's kinda' distracting, (unless you've set up your blog for that very purpose)
That's all

Attention spans are short. Write concisely and shoot for less than 750 words. That won't work for everyone, but I'd swear my shorter pieces (500 words) are better received than longer ones.

Get to know your audience. If you are unsure what people are interested in reading, use tools like WordTracker (freekeywords.wordtracker.com/) or Google Trends (www.google.com/trends) to find out what people are searching for. -

Already read blogging to the bank 3.0 few months ago, eventhough I am not the one blogging for money (for now). (1) Free blog doesn't make much money (eg: but the guy from Woork seems successful) and (2) just combine/link your all blog with each other (eg: like the guy from problogger[dot]net does). Also... If you didn't have any blog yet, (3) start it now. Just start typing and after a while, people from the net will possibly see you (eg: its just a matter of time). Hope nobody will sue me on this 3 short notes.

hi to all
i am new in this community i am a learner my tip is submit your blog address in search engine and leave your blog address in forum sites and also do work hard........................!!
my blog address freesoftinn.blogspot.com -
I am Annie.
My site: www.childhoodspeech.com
My best tip: Choose a theme that you know very well, If you have chosen a niche and you know the topic very well, stick to it. It takes time to build a good blog.
Join BlogCatalog, because your teacher is in it too! -
Ok, apologies for this being more than one tip, but:
This is going to sound really basic, but its saved me from a lot of weird posts:
I always hit the 'preview' button before posting. Its where I catch the extra linebreaks or the hyperlinks that are attached to the wrong bits of text.
I would also suggest getting a friend or family member to read your blog and give you some regular feedback (eg 'your posts are getting too longwinded, you've written a lot of posts about the same thing, 'did you really mean that?')
In the heat of the posting moment its very easy to post something silly!
Also, (as mentioned above, but I really want to highlight it) having lots of widgets, or inserting an image into every post really slows down the page-loading, which can be really frustrating.
My last tip is to enjoy it! I think it really shows in the blog when someone is really passionate about what they write. -
Tony
After we choose what to blog on. Next important thing is design. Remember look attracts or temp visitors to stay on.
I have many blogging tips here:
www.weblogian.com/blog
I am writing new advance money making blog tip at
www.blogcastor.com
At not to forget twitpress.blogcastor.com is social site based on twitter but unlike twitter, here you get a direct link back for every link posts posted here.
Good luck with your students. -
acousticguitarist, I deleted the link, so I can't tell you what software it is. I sent a reply back to the individual who sent the email to me. I told that individual that I was very upset and I will not use their services again! Just be cautious of all companies who sell digital products or software on the internet for a price. You will have to do your own searching for these types of things. Just be aware of situations like what I discribed. "If it sounds too good to be true it usually is."

Finding Fruitcake
findingfruitcake.blogspot.com
Tip:
Do not be afraid to be original and try something different (even if it sounds lame or corny). You'd be amazed how originality can bring in readers (even if they think you're a little fruity). Readers get tired of the same old, same old. -
Name: Marina Rey
Blog: www.diaryofacalifornian.wordpress.com
Tip: I kind of skimmed through, may have missed this if I didn't see it, but I suggest being REALLY involved. If you put all of yourself into your blog while also taking the time to read and comment other blogs you love, it makes your blog more successful. Basically you get what you pay for; if you work hard on your blog, it turns out better. If you get involved with other peoples' blogs (who might be similar or of the same interest), they usually reciprocate. -
Develop a backup system for your blog posts and contents before disaster strikes. The time to backup your posts is while you are writing them. The best method of doing so is to use an offline blog editor to compose your posts in and to publish the posts directly into your blog.
Using an off-line blog editor, such as Windows Live Writer or BlogDesk, etc. rather than posting directly into the editor on any blogging platform provides you with a back-up copy of every post on your own computer. Therefore, if you press “publish” or “save” and find that the post or page did not make it into the database you can replace it quickly and easily.
Offline Blog Editors Reviews

Here goes:
1) Bob
2) The Bob Files radioflyer1980.wordpress.com
3) My super blogging tip is to find your own voice. If you aren't sure where to start try writing how you speak. Record yourself talking about a subject you're interested in and knowledgeable about. Listen for how you put things: turns of phrase, how you organize an argument, etc. Also, write something (anything) every day and make it a habit.
