I like black...everything pops off the page well and it's very readable. So tired of seeing just white sites anymore.

without looking black for art , never for business

Personally I like black backgrounds if it is an art type of blog but I can't read the text at all. And based on that I wouldn't stay, regardless how good the content was.

I prefer the white. Black is hard for me to read. Nice blog though!

Thanks I just notice a high bounce rate about 50% so i think it might be because of the black background.. CTR is very good though

I don't like black. It's too drab. I prefer white but finally ended up with a new love theme template which I get free from a website (check my blogroll for free template at steptpg.blogspot.com. Elsewhere, I do have one black drab template at dhammadelights.blogspot.com because I like the monk in it. Do check that out.

Yes, go with the white. Or even a very light gray.

    I'd suggest a gray for a background.

I like the black background, but the font is difficult to read. Try bumping it up a size and using a very dark grey for the back, instead. That might make your pictures pop more, too.

White for us possible with a light baby blue added in to soften?

    Just a thought!

I'm weird, but I do most of my blog reading at night in my office in my dark basement with the only light coming from the monitor and a run of Christmas lights along one wall.

When I hit a site with a black background I usually either browse away quickly or I copy and paste the content to gedit and read it there.

    Hmm All good suggestions!

You helped me out a million here. Im trying to get yahoo to verify my blogs but the meta tag code never works. I'll try to enter it like you have on your source code. It is fussy with the code for some reason.

Black is the color to use for backgrounds if your site is clean looking. Otherwise go with the grey background. White is 3rd choice. I use black on all my blogs.

send me your header source code and your yahoo key and I will put it in there for you and send it back

It's probably just me Robert, but I find black backgrounds hard to read. Your content is good so that's not a problem. However, I lose my place really fast and I think it's because of the black BG.

It's a good site but you might want to try some lighter colors.

White background, look more clean anr clear to read. Do you like to read a book with a black background? No? Me either

You have to set it up a certain way. Take a look at my example. The background where the main text is is not pure black. But each post has white line in between.

The problem with white is that everyone uses it and the blogs don't stand out from all the others.

I like a black background. What I don't like is white text on a black background. It makes me feel like I've just looked into the flash of a camera. Course my eyes aren't that great so that could just be me. I do like the other colored text...don't have a problem with those. Hope that helps.

I believe you gotta use like I did #cccccc for the text color instead of white.

Am i the only one who, with 20/20, find white/light backgrounds harder on my eyes, than black?

    I like black... for now.

I have also grown tired of all the white backgrounds, but some blogs pull it off. The same can be said for black backgrounds. With regard to readability, have you tried messing with all the different font characteristics? You could adjust the spacing between letters and lines in your template html for example. One blog I read regularly has a black background, slightly lighter blue links, and a lighter green title. The gray headings are also darker than yours and everything looks like it's in bold. Much easier to read.

Ok I think I will adjust the front for starters in the morning then gradually lighten the background and darken the text over the next 3 months.. I have learned overnight changes and chase people away faster than ever
