Hello fellow bloggers!

Thought I would pose the question...."What is the scariest movie you have ever watched?"

Not looking for hack and slash gore...Just plain
old fashioned scary

The kind of movie that creeps you out and gets your partner wanting to sit a little closer?

Convince me and I will go out and rent it tonight-

    Creep.

Creep is pretty gory, but freeked me out completely when I first watched it.

    Go check it out.

Jaws also scared the bejeezus out of me the first time round, but I was 8 so that doesn't count I guess? lol

Creep creeped me out. No pun intended. Only because I use the tube most evenings!

The Changeling with George C Scott. It's more suspense than horror but it was good. It's an older movie so not sure how that will translate to todays horror specs.

I just added that to my queue, also.

Well, you can see "The Eye" or "Shutter"
    1. aeye
Shutter is a good one -- if you get the Asian version. It made me jump, and I have only once jumped at a horror movie -- the rest just make me laugh.
    2. Hangingonahyphen
It was pure evil. That shutter movie. Everytime I feel like getting sick, I wonder if there is some demon clinging at me. Que horror!!!

Guys do you feel the same:
When I was a kid Evil Dead movie was so scary
But when i watch it again recently it is abit funny and feel like watching cartoon
    1. DieselLives
Evil Dead was always meant to be a bit tongue in cheek...wasn't it?
    2. legbamel
Yes, although it certainly has its moments. Except for Evil Dead 3. Army of Darkness was pure schtick, and the better for it.

The Exorcist still haunts me to this day.

    2 oldies but goodies.

Psycho still scares me, even after having seen it several times.

When a Stranger Calls (the original version)

Hmmm, I have a plethora of horror movies that I love, but they generally don't scare me.

Lemme see, things that scared me when I was a kid:

    Poltergeist
    It
    The Shining
Watership Down (Not a horror flick, but still kinda disturbing)

Movies that I like now (you said not gory?)

I saw one movie - damn I forget the name of it - the movie itself was rather slow and not scary - but afterward - afterward I realized I could NOT sleep....and everything freaked me out a little bit.

It began with a W...had to do with ancient witchcraft - very suspenseful, you never see the monster, ever.

    ARgh!

I guess I didn't read right to the end of his post ... none of those movies made me or my partner sit closer to each other tho, you need a different kinda movie for that,

I think I actually watched both of those movies alone, hmm...
  9. bloggernoob
watch one of those kirk cameron rapture movies. creepy?!?!?
    1. DrowseyMonkey
creepy because they're scary or because he believes that stuff? I'd say the latter is creepier, lol.
  10. MidwestMom
This one has its cheesy moments, but I have to say

    Play Misty for Me

It was Clint Eastwood's first time as a director, I think... It's been at least 15 years since I first saw this one, and it still creeps me out.

Best watched alone, with lights out for maximum creepy.

Ok, for good ol' fashion scary you need to go back a couple of decades. Im a sucker for good horror, I love horror.

The Exorcist: now thats good ol' fashioned scary with no gore just really disturbing scenes that will stay with you long after the credits have finished rolling. There are a lot of subliminal things in that movie that you really need to watch it more than once to really appreciate all the little things. Everytime I watch it, I always find something new I didnt notice the last time I watched it. There is no movie out there that shocks more than this one, I guarantee it. This movie is drenched in so much symbolism and horror that if you fall into the situation, your dreams will be haunted by it.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the 70s original): Something about the grainy homemade video look of this film makes it stand up to the test of time in terms of just being creepy as hell. There are few images that linger longer than leatherface swinging his chainsaw in the middle of the road or the family dinner where you get to meet all the members of that disturbing family. The family dynamic of that film makes for incredibly scary characters.

Audition(the japanese version): This is just disturbing in the sense that the climax is just so built up that you cant help but feel shocked at the inevitable turn this girl is going to take. You know its going to happen throughout the whole movie because of all the creepy flashbacks but you want to believe its not. And when it does you are just like, hell no! It entertains as much as it makes you think because its a horror shocker as well as being a psychological drama.

There are more but I think three is good enough for one night. Enjoy.

The Exorcist scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. The sequel where she gets repossessed isn't that scary, though.

Anything with whats his face Will Farrel in I find very scary! Two minutes in and I am wanting to scream !
    1. DrowseyMonkey
lol ... true. But Elf & Stranger than Fiction were good. He wasn't in his undies in either of those, LOL

The Omen, That scene in the cemetary still sends shivers down my spine. It is a bit gory, but not overly so by today's standards.

And, I'm probably alone in this, but the Blair Witch Project was pretty darn creepy.

"What Ever Happened to Baby Jane"

The original "The Eye" - japanese.

The scariest movie ever made was the video from my first marriage.
    1. robertstevenson
I had to get up and walk out of that film, Joe. Too scary for me. I had to see something more lighthearted like Silence of the Lambs.

I don't watch a lot of scary movies but I'd say one movie that really creeped me out was The Sixth Sense!
    1. exinco
      i love that movie
    2. luvikavi
Echo of Stirs, which I think is similar to the 6th sense came out is also a good movie, I actually liked that better.
  17. aeye
Battle Royal was a good one. As was Three...Extremes.

I think it's called "The Art of the Devil" in the US. If that's what you're talkin about, I've seen it! Creeped me the hell out!

I saw a movie years ago about a couple who lost their child. They went to Vienna (I think) and there they meet a psychic or something. But at the same time a murderer is active in the neighborhood. Anyway the end is about the father thinking he is saving a child, but he is not (do not want to give away the plot).
But I do not know the name of the movie anymore. I was really freaked out by it.
Maybe someone here knows which movie that was.
    1. Anthe
I just found the title again, it was ‘Don’t look now’. Here is a review of the movie.

Sam Neill has been in some pretty creepy movies, specifically In the Mouth of Madness and Event Horizon. We saw the latter in the theater and I was so glad that it was a bright, sunny day out when we left. Both are mood movies, more than gore-fests.
  21. luvikavi
There are a ton with really good plots. Some of have gore, but I think they all have a unique theme. If you're into horror movies, try the Master of Horrors, a lot of well known directors (as well as some on a smaller scale) direct 1 hour suspense/scary movies. One famous director is Dario Argento.

Dario Argento's movies are blood curling and are not cheap scares. It has gore, but the stories, in my opinion, are generally good. I still have to finish The Mother of tears.

I think I'm like the only person who was scared of this, but The Grudge scared the carp out of me.

    Old thread.

Was going to recommend Shutter, but someone already did that.

Nightwatch, an old movie with Elizabeth Taylor.

    Ju On series.

Silence of the Lambs is one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. As an old movie buff, I also like "Don't Look Now" with Julie Christie. Classic.
  28. roadgurl5
Black Christmas w/Olivia Hussey and Keir Dullea...it's classified as a slasher movie but it's from 1974 so the "slash" isn't too bad...creepy phone call stuff though...really great!

    The monthman prophecies, The Ring...

As soon as I can locate them, the film of my first wedding is about the scariest thing I've ever sat through or maybe some Gilligan's Island reruns!
  31. myriadlife
Not much on the film front really freaks me out but Cape Fear sticks in my memory big time!

Aside from Sixth Sense, which scared me for days. The Strangers, is also a good scary movie to get her to come closer. It is a blood and gore one which I said you didn't want. But the scary parts are not the blood and gore, it's the pyschological games and the chase that scared me the most. I still get freaked out thinking about it.
  34. SpiritualBloggers
The Exorcist, if it's still considered a classic and not cliche. I actually think of it as a comedy now, but you know, that's just my twisted mind.

Poltergeist, I think is interesting. NOT scary per se, but definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

Off of the top of my head...

The Entity is one of the creepiest movies I've ever seen. I still get chills when I think of the last scene...

Recently I saw a movie called Amusement... now, the whole thing isn't creepy, but the middle story with the clown was very effective.
