Pls tell me how to delete spam in wordpress

DO you have a spam problem? I do.

So due to various real world concerns i took a sabbatical from blogging for a month or so. When i woke up and came back i had 7800 spam messages in my moderation inbox. So many, in fact, that the page will not load. So in essence i cannot get to my moderation page. Even if i could, WP 2.4 which i'm on, only allows you to delete spam 100 at a time to my knowledge ... which would mean paging through 78 pages of crap.

First question: anyone have any ideas on how to delete this spam?

Second question: is there anything i can do to limit or better manage spam going forward?

Wow ! That's tough ! I really can't think of anything else - except try using a faster computer.

I'm sorry. I use wordpress, but I have no idea. I get up every morning and delete it then. This would be useful though for when you are on vaca. I hope someone knowledgeable will chime in soon. Have you googled it?

Not sure about the answer to your first question. I'm sure there's probably a way to do this in mysql, but I wouldn't know what tables to look at in the DB for it. As for your second question, I highly recommend you install the plugin Akismet. It'll really help you with spam catching. Bonus: you can set it to auto delete spam it has caught and is holding after x number of days. That way you wont come back to your blog after a month and find that much crap waiting for you.

This is tough indeed! My suggestions are:
1. You need to upgrade to latest WP
2. Activate 'Akismet Plugin' which came with WP by default
3. Check WP documentation and take your time while reading

You could moderate all comments, you may just have to delete comments 100 at a time.

You could also install the re-captcha plugin, that's where people have to type in 2 words before there comment is posted.

Install intensedebate which has inbuilt plugin as optional which will take care of spam...:)
