I love them but my cats chew on plants. So I have nothing. If anyone out there still has one and wants to see if they can get it to survive and rebloom next Christmas, here is how to do it:

Don't eat the berries or you won't last until next Christmas!

I've never seen berries on poinsettias. I know the white milky sap will give you a tummy ache. Are you perhaps thinking of the berries on mistletoe which are poisonous? (that's why you sometimes see plastic berries attached to real mistletoe)

Anyhoo - thanks for stopping by, nice to hear from you!

Yes, your right. Wow, two plants associated with Christmas have the potential to make you ill.

If eaten, poinsettias may sometimes cause diarrhea and vomiting in animals and humans. If the sap of the Poinsettia accidentally gets into a human's eye, it can cause temporary blindness. Source: Wikipedia

I saw poinsettias in Jacksonville, Florida that had been planted outside and had grown to the eaves. They were truly beautiful.

When I was a kid a neighbor planted her Christmas poinsettia outdoors after the danger of frost was past. That plant grew to huge proportions over the course of the growing season. I saw her when she popped it up out of the ground in the fall. She said that she was going to start the process of trying to force it to bloom, but I didn't check back to see if it worked. If she was able to get some flowers it would have been the biggest plant ever. It was at least six feet tall.

My grandmother had a whole row of them along the side of the garage and they were gorgeous for many years.

Just take a picture of them, or buy some fake ones. They'll last forever

At my work, we had a whole bunch of bad poinsettias that never sold.

    What a waste!

I'm sure they ended up in the garbage.

It breaks my heart when stores, offices, etc throw out plants that can be saved.
