Let's all post SEO tips. Some here are experienced bloggers and some are beginning. I wish someone would have taught me when I started, so let's help the newbies by posting short SEO tips or videos in this thread and if takes off, let's bump once in a while so that new members can read.
One more thing, please no spamming i.e. "come to my blog I'll teach you how to make millions".

Here are some tips that you will find practically everywhere:
1. Write for people first and then worry for SEO - if you are too obsessed with Search Engines (SEs), it will effect your writing and you may lose or not find readers;
2. Use unique Titles and Descriptions for your blog posts
3. don't use Javascript or flash for your navigation
4. Make your site as flat as possible - make it simple for the SEs to find your content without having to follow hundreds of links;
5. Don't show same content on different URLs - it will just confuse them which one to index and show in the SERPs
PS. DON'T look at my website for tips, you WILL NOT find any-
That #1 is great. Don't worry too much about SEO. It will come to you eventually. -
Well, many people are obsessed with keywords, keywords density etc. It is a blog, people go there to read stuff and find information, so you should focus on the quality of your writing. The only SEO you guys should worry about is getting the basics so the SEs will find you and promote your blog. As blackzero85 said, eventually it will come.

If the blog post I write are not searchable by google? Does that mean the writings are in vain since there are not meta tags etc

Your meta title is ABSOLUTELY the most important part of SEO, apart from getting one-way inbound links from other high quality sites using the keyword phrases you'd like to rank well for.

I am not an expert but from what I have read -
1) Titles are the most important
2) Meta Tags - Keywords & Description of your blog-
Well the meta keywords tag is pretty useless. Most Search engines ignore it or give VERY LITTLE weight in their algorithm because it is pretty easy to manipulate. Same with the description tag, but because this is the text often shown directly under the link in the SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages) it can effect the CTR (Click Through Rate) of those results.

Just don't be a black hat SE optimizer
Some basic seo are,
1. Internal linking with anchor text
2. Adding main keywords in your article title
3. Using meta tags
4. Pinging
5. Getting backlinks
6. Using feed directories
@Greyer I like the way you said about "Don't worry about SEO" actually I don't write about google, I like to write about people -that's my theory.

The seo dirty little secret is that links are the only thing that matter. This was proved to me when I was shown several Adobe reader pages that basically were just download pages, yet they ranked 1 on Google. The reason for their number 1 position was that there were thousands of pages linking to that page. You have all seen them, they say something like "You need Adobe reader, download here" Well that is a link. Thousands and thousands of pages link to that one page. That is all it takes. No need for great content or really good keywords. Just lots of relevant links.-

Another tip:
Try to use permalinks in your blog or CMS everytime instead of codes in the urls like "?id=34321&cat=03..."
And write the title of the page in these permalinks.
Google search engines can immediately index your urls if you use permalinks. -
Here is a genuine SEO op I have recently made available a guest posting op for parents to talk about their new kids on the holidays at tinyurl.com/3eel92 You will get live links in the post and your profile which gets attached to your post. You will also be listed on the author page with live links. With the amount of SEO I have done to this blog over the past month plus you can expect it to jump from PR 1 to probably 3 if not PR 4. Get in before the update and reap the rewards. We also have an auto add link directory.
Second opp Register and enter a recipe at http://my superrecipe.com (a recipe sharing article directory)you will get the same post and author links as above. We have a new forum and link directory their as well.
Third opp is register and define your favorite bit of internet slang at outofmymouth.com. You get the same post and author links here as well. -
seomoz dot org has plenty of free online SEO tools to help out the newbies. U'll need to register thhough. -
One thing that I did was change my coding so that the title to my article shows up before the name of my blog in the heading. Since then, my search engine traffic has increased significantly.-
that might be a good hint but I don't see any way to feat this into my blog, dracula-transylvania.blogspot.com/
I think it will look really ugly if I'll put anything above the title.

You don't put it above the title, just so that it shows before the title in the title bar. Example: At the very top of this page it reads, Post SEO Tips Here//Blogging Help//BlogCatalog. On many blogs that line reads your blog title then the title of your article, if you are on an article page, and not the main page. I changed it so the title to the article shows before the title of my blog.

Ah, i know what you mean . Well, I don't know if you can control it with blogger, I'll have to look for it. AFAIK you cannot edit the META TAGS , at least not directly.

Thanks, it works. I changed it on dracula-transylvania.blogspot.com keeping only the page title and adding a relevant description. Of course, it was so simple, but I never thought of looking for this.
If I'll see any improvement (it shold help ranking better for more keywords, the ones that the specific pages are about) I'll change this for other blogs also; and I'll let you know !
