All of us have different number of posts on our home page. Most frequently I have noticed blogs with only the most recent post on the main/home page.

How many posts do you feel should be on a blog's home page?
How many posts are there on your blog's home page?

10... but my posts are very short, they are usually only a picture or a few lines of text.

I have five...enough to peak your interest, but not so much you feel overwhelmed (or something like that ).

I just have whatever blogger gives you automatically, but when I'm READING a blog I like a million or so. Well, maybe that's a bit much, but the more the better. I find myself extremely unlikely to click to the next page, but if there are multiple posts on the front page I'll usually read several of them.

I agree with you on this Tiffany. I too read a lot of posts from among the ones on the front page but rarely ever do I click to the next page.

I do the same. I'll nearly always read to the end of the page but I don't usually rummage around.

10 posts should be fine,,, Websites that have a lot of content on single page looks bad,,,, 10 posts and READ-MORE tags should work, but with enough content to get the reader excited about it...

I generally think 5 to 10 are sufficient. I've run across blogs with dozens and dozens of posts on their main page and their site loads too slowly and I click out.

I agree with tajhmode..my blog is having 4 posts with 'read more' links. Too much posts will slow down my blog to load the front page

It depends on the kinds of posts, how long they are, and what else is on the page. I have 6 on mine (I think, I've changed it a few times) because my usual post length and the length of my sidebar make that a reasonable number.

If you have 2,000-word posts, having six on the front page and a narrow content window will mean an intimidatingly-long scroll. If you post large photos or widgets, having 10 posts on your front page could make it load slowly so you'd be better off with fewer posts.

I would hope if people like my writing they will take the time to browse the archives but I understand some people simply like to come and go and move on to the next blog

I only have 3 on my home page, several reasons really, I expect to usually have quite long articles, it also helps the page to load quicker, I remember my first blog I got comments saying it was taking minutes rather than seconds to load when I had 10. Also advertisers like adsense and yahoo only allow 3 ads to a page so you can have an ad in every post.
I've also noticed when you have pictures they take time to load so it's better to keep the pictures and have less posts, people seem to like pictures with the posts.

    Tony:)
