How is it that my blog is ranking much lower than some blogs that are new to Blogcatalog and have fewer friends, while I have hundreds of friends and have been here longer?

Is there something wrong with the ranking system? It just doesn't make sense to me why this is happening.

I used to have a higher ranking. Am I doing something wrong?

which ranking are you referring to? anything over 30 is a good Blog Rank, and your user ratings average to an almost perfect 5 stars. I think youre doing quite well.

so if our BC ranking is over 30, that's good?
I think mine is like, 40something...not sure...too old to remember.

Your blog is in the top 10 out of almost 3000 blogs in religion,
www.blogcatalog.com/directory/religion Thats pretty good. The algorithm for determining rank takes into account a lot of different factors including number of fans, detail pages hits and views, whether you have a widget or not, and your reviews, and recent activity in all of those mentioned fields usually count for more then old activity. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll be on top pretty soon.

Maybe I should try to change my title to get more organic traffic. Will that make a significant difference with my ranking in here?

Blog Rank - a special formula that analyzes your hits, views, comments, neighborhood members and other special secret ingredients to create a numeric score based on a 100 point scale. Your Blog Rank is primarily used to determine the order blogs appear in our Directory and Search Results. The higher your score the better your placement.

Quality of content is always most important. But if you don't rank well you won't get as much traffic. The more traffic you get to your blog the more people will read it. So its not an issue of wanting to be esteemed as better than anyone else. It is a matter of wanting to rise higher in the search results so that you will get more traffic to your blog.

Therefore, how you rank is very important as it will play a major factor in determining how many people visit your blog.

After all, if you are on page 20 how many people are going to go through all of those pages to find you? Many people stop on page two of the search results; and even more people won't go past the first page. But if you are in the top ten it would be much better because you are more visible to people who would likely not even go to page two. Hence you will gain more traffic to your blog.

You can have great content; but if its not being read what kind of impact or influence will it have? The idea is to get as many people to your blog as you can so that you can get them to read that content. And the best way to do that is to rank well.

      Does this make sense?

Many of my music blogs are 56. The 70s though is 38. Same layout and content; just 70s music. Maybe some don't like disco?
