Blogging is already a profession, just not a very common one yet. Blogs are ideal for customer interaction, so a fair number of companies have created blogs and assigned or hired employees to manage them. Also many self-employed people use blogging to further their careers.
Generally, professional blogging is distinguished from personal or hobby blogging by such things as:
* making money from the blog, either directly or by boosting sales.
* focusing on a specific topic range related to a company or career.
* having a more formal tone.
* relating to business rather than personal content.
* having a professional level of quality.
A professional blogger should:
* write quickly and easily, sustaining a brisk pace long-term.
* write clean, engaging material at a professional level of skill.
* generate lots of relevant ideas, both alone and through audience interaction.
* update the blog often and regularly: minimum once a week, preferably several times, and daily is best.
* understand networking and social media, thus boosting readership.
* stay on topic.
* meet people's needs with the blog so they visit frequently.
* deal with coworkers in a businesslike fashion.
