What are peoples opinions on protected Twitter accounts? I am a big opponent of the protected account. I tend to get quite vocal about it for reasons that are beyond me.
In fact I just wrote this up: l4x9.com/2009/05/why-you-shoulnd-not-have-protected.html about why your Twitter account should be protected.
Then I got a hair up my butt and registered shouldihaveaprotectedtwitteraccount.com
Go there for my opinion. None the less what do you think? I would love to know!

I think a lot of people have private accounts under names no one would bother them at and the accounts may be just family or just a certain few friends. Not sure what someone has to say privately to friends or family should be open to public scrutiny should they not want it to, thankfully Twitter offers that option.

Hmm, See that's my thing though. I think it is pointless to keep your account private when twitter is built around the community.

I have an open twitter account. It used to be a protected. If I am inundated by internet marketers again I'll protect it again, and it ain't nobody's business if I do.
I live in an intentional community (artists' colony) in a rural environment in a semi remote location on a small island. I know a thing or two about building actual communities and about actual communal living.
The word "community" is being tweeted at me in a coercive manner. What does community mean? Common unity. Who is tweeting about so-called community? Where do they live and how communal is their lifestyle? What do I have in common with them?
Most live in anonymity in wooden boxes in suburbs or in concrete towers, behind control panel entry doors far away from me. They don't associate with the neighbors in the next apartment or house over.
Give me a break. There is no substitute for face-to-face actual community living. An artificial community does not an actual community make - period.
