An energy summit organized by Ohio congressman Bob Latta to discuss the GOP's American Energy Act--the Republican alternative to the Waxman-Markey bill--appears to have failed miserably as more protesters showed up than attendees.

ProgressOhio.org reports that over 50 protesters turned out to heckle the GOPers for their ‘stone age’ efforts to ignore the threat of climate change.
Discussion:
The Group no doubt hoped to demonstrate public support for their Bush-inspired ‘alternative bill,’ but the poor turnout demonstrated the opposite.

(1) Have you read the GOP American Energy Act? No I haven't
(2) What's your response to the GOP American Energy Act? I'll have to get reading.
The fact that you mentioned Ohio drew my attention to be honest since I'm a native and all. I'm kind of impressed. In the years I lived in Ohio it has always been like pulling teeth for any kind of political action. School levies nearly never pass. If you can tie a sports stadium to it it would. The only things that ever passed were tourist related it made me sick.
From what I'm reading it would make us more dependent on foreign oil from OPEC countries.
Under The Bush Energy Plan, Average Household Energy Costs Rose Over $1,100 the proposal falls along the lines of Bush's plans. That is so bad.-
Have you read Anok's latest post on the Town Hall Meeting she just attended? In that case it was GOP protesters. I'm not kidding when I say that the kind of behavior that's allowed south of the border is NOT tolerated at meetings here. We do NOT allow hecklers to seize control of our meetings. Here you speak only when it's your turn to speak, or you get ruled out of order, and f you do NOT comply with the Chairperson's ruling you are escorted out the door by the police.

IMHO many people do not know what the parameters of freedom of speech are and fail to recognize that along with rights come responsibilities. Here at a public meeting one does not have the right to speak unless or until they receive permission from the Chairperson.
Anyone who interrupts a recognized speaker or disrupts due proceedings can and will be summarily escorted out the door where he or she can exercise free speech by howling at the moon.
There's no way verbally abusive people who cannot conduct themselves in accord with appropriate public behavior standards are allowed to hijack meetings. Depending on the nature, specifics and extent of the disruption disorderly behavior at a public meeting can win you a night in a cell exercising your free speech by speaking to the iron bars.
More to the point, anyone who behaves like a hooligan and/or who slanders (defames) any other person at a public meeting is shunned, and if they have a business it may also be boycotted. Hence in small communities shunning is a very powerful and effective behavior modification tool.

I'm going to get blasted from the "green" people by saying this:
There are a lot of good scientific data and information out from experienced climatologists, paleo-climatologist and Scientists saying that the earth is NOT experiencing a global warming "crisis". I didn't say there was no global warming, but just that it isn't a crisis.
I believe we should take care of our earth, but I don't believe we should pass drastic legislation on possibly false assumptions. Some of these same nay-sayers were telling us 30 years ago that the earth was going to enter into another ice age. Also, they make there false assumptions on computer models, and we all know Garbage In / Garbage Out.
Let the massacre begin . . .

I'm not about to enter a futile cyclic discussion with a climate change denier. The observations, opinions and recommendations of the vast and overwhelming majority of climate change scientists, in peer reviewed articles based on actual research are authoritative sources that trump junk science and the conspiracy theories being bandied about.
More to the point, the Discussion questions in the OP are:
(1) Have you read the GOP American Energy Act?
(2) What's your response to the GOP American Energy Act?
