I have created my own pattern in GIMP. I have the image saved as a pattern, and am trying to use it as background for a 728x90 web banner. However, when I use the bucket fill tool with the pattern, it fills in tiled instead of a continuous background. Can anybody tell me how to stop it from tiling?

Thanks!

You can't, as that's what it's supposed to do. If you want a continuous background, try using it as a brush instead of a bucket-fill.

    HI,

I use GIMP. Using the pixels that you provided, I created a banner and opened up my patterns. I was able to fill in the entire canvas and it did not look tiled. Not sure where the problem lies.

April, show us your pattern. If you use the same pattern as your desktop wallpaper tiled does it tile smoothly? If the image is not designed with edges that match and smoothly tile the pattern will not work the way you want it to.

Ahh right! May have to take the single image, use the "make seamless" plugin, and then use that as a brush, maybe?

If she makes it seamless she can re-add it as a pattern and use it as a pattern fill.

I've never done that in GIMP but I used to have a KAI's plugin for Photoshop back in the 20th century that did it.

The image I am using as a pattern is a copy of the side of a white tiger (in other words, I want a background that looks like a white tiger pattern).

I uploaded an example here so you can see it. I'm not sure how to add a picture in this forum. aprilfreelance.spaces.live.com/photos/

I tried the "make seamless" command, but I have not tried using it as a brush.

Ahh, yeah ... um, I'd limit your image to the large darker side of the pic - so when you 'make seamless' that will create less contrast. Try it, might work for you.
