If one jogs in cold weather, dressing in layers of clothing in order to trap
body heat is done by wearing fabrics that are good insulators against nippy
temperatures and particularly covering head, hands and feet. So hands play a role....plus hand provide to balance out the for maximum speed attainable in a time period, to-and-fro motion tends to help body in momentum ! -
Your hands and arms have alot to do with setting your pace. For each time your hand swings, you take a step, many people find it easier to regulate their pace by paying attention to arm swing rather than to their legs.
Also, keeping your arms at a right angle, and with fists unclenched will keep you relaxed. Arms held too high up or which swing to far across the front of your body make your running more tiresome and inefficient.
