Question about the @ twitter symbol

How do you use it ? For example I use it here:
twitter.com/tradernovice
to answer somebody but I'm not sure it's the right way, will he see my answer ?

    if your messaging the person directly then yes they see it. The messages show up in thier PM page, like a guestbook for lack of a better word ..

      That's exactly right.

      I use it when I sms text twitter. It takes over my whole texting routine now LOL

    You use it when you want to direct reply to someone, or to re-tweet someone, you can even use it in the middle of a post when you want poeple to know who your talking about. It's short hand for linking to a person because we only have 140 characters.
