Eh, you stole my idea. lol
I wasn't going to tell until after at least some people who had lower scores than me posted their results ... lol
I figure voodoo may clean up on this one but you never can tell.
I can see him lurking in the sidebar along side Claire who no doubt is a lot smarter than I am. -
I'll be brave, I already know I am slow:
Visionary Philosopher
Your IQ Score is: 142
Your mind's strengths allow you to think ahead of the game — to imagine or anticipate what should come next in just about any situation. Because you're equally skilled in the numerical and verbal universes of the brain, you can draw from multiple sources of information to come up with great ideas. The timelessness of your vision and the balance between your various skills are what make you a Visionary Philosopher.-
lol That's what I thought
I was also homeschooled and I'm glad of it. I wasn't warehoused and I didn't have to respond to bells like Pavlov's dogs. My education in the basics was sound (my mother was a teacher) but I also had the advantage of being able to forge on ahead in whatever subjects that attracted me. -
Not exactly. Your genes are responsible for about 60% of your intelligence (about 40% during childhood and about 80% during adulthood, indicating that the genes responsible for intelligence only express themselves fully later in life).
Of course your environment could result in stagnation or stimulation, but it's not the overbearing factor. You've got good genes, that's why you score high on an IQ test. What you do with it is up to how you respond to interaction with your environment.

@katzeyes
Hi there. It's good to meet another home schooled adult. I don't feel that I lacked any socialization at all. My extended family was large and there were other kids that we did socialize with. We were also involved in many community kids clubs like 4H and other kid's sports groups, craft groups, etc. It makes me wonder out loud why all these people from cities are so worried about socializing their kids. It seems to me there are a lot more kids living in suburbs than there are living in the bush. It also seems to me that public schools are not designed for socializing, except at recess and in after school programs. [shrug] -

That test was hard!
Glass of water
Your IQ score is: 12
You have the mental dexterity of a retarded carrot and the intelligence of a badly brain damaged chimp.
Probably a pervert. -
I think this pretty close, when I've done IQ tests before I've scored between 128 and 134.
"Word Warrior - Your IQ Score is: 127 ... You are equipped with a verbal arsenal that enables you to understand complex issues and communicate on a particularly high level ... Since your command of words is so great, you are also a terrific communicator — able to articulate big ideas to just about anyone."
So there ya go. Need something explained just come to moi
But don't ask me to calculate something. -
Hubby and I took this test a couple of years ago. One of us got 140, the other 141.
I don't get it...math beyond basic algebra baffles me, I was asked by the teacher to transfer out of a physics class after 3 weeks lest I ruin my GPA (seems my test scores were so bad I could have done better just by guessing!) and geometry reduced me to tears. How can he and I have virtually the same IQ, considering he's an engineer and can do this...and more...in his sleep? -
Insightful Linguist
Your IQ Score is: 127
You are gifted with the natural fluency of a writer and the visual and spatial strengths of an artist. Those skills contribute to your creative and expressive mind.
Dern it... I guess I picked this profession because it matched my IQ? LOL
I knew I'd never make it as a rocket scientist
-
Insightful Linguist: 127. I always average around 130 on these things, so at least I'm consistent.
"You are gifted with the natural fluency of a writer and the visual and spatial strengths of an artist. Those skills contribute to your creative and expressive mind." -
I have taken this test a long time ago, this same exact one and I scored the same thing again, haha. I guess I havent learned anything from then to now.
Facts Curator
Your IQ Score is: 138
Like a meticulous collector, you've fed your brain a unique set of facts and figures over the years. Words, numbers, you've got it all. That's what makes you a Facts Curator.
Whether or not you intend to absorb every piece of information that comes your way, your mind has certain steel-trap qualities to it. You are a knowledge sponge. You have almost enough words in your head to fill a dictionary, and you're equally adept when it comes to manipulating numbers. You can also detect important patterns in number sequences, and probably remember the mnemonic devices you were taught in grade school. You may feel comfortable in classroom settings where absorbing details is critical. You're also able to learn from example and piece together all the little facts in life to get to the big picture. That's why you never stop accumulating information as you walk through life.
Your strengths lie in both the verbal and math realms — placing you in the same arena as someone like Bill Gates. Gates has the ability to not only store and retrieve an especially large amount of specialized data, but to translate and present that information to the population at large. His entire empire is based on this unique talent. And to think — your brain works in this same way! When it comes right down to it, you and other Facts Curators can ride a wave of information to live a truly enriched life. -
Word warrior, 129.
Although that's lower than the score I got officially
Maybe it's the three year old that's been blaring princess music in my ears. -

Damn it. I know I was close to evil genius. I'm sure that's the next level. -
I took the quiz and . . .
Word Warrior
Your IQ Score is: 97
You are equipped with a verbal arsenal that enables you to understand complex issues and communicate on a particularly high level. These talents make you a Word Warrior.
I feel GREAT!!!! -
Your IQ Score is: 124
You are gifted with the natural fluency of a writer and the visual and spatial strengths of an artist. Those skills contribute to your creative and expressive mind.
Insightful linguists can take complex concepts and articulate them to just about anyone. You have a gift with words and insight into processes and the way people think. These talents enable you to explain things clearly to people. Helen Keller is a great example of an Insightful Linguist. Blind, deaf and mute, she was still able to put things together in her mind and to understand complex ideas. She could do that because she was able to conceptualize ideas internally. Though she could not literally see, she had the visual and spatial skills necessary to understand patterns on an abstract level. She learned to read, write and ultimately became a writer on issues of social justice.
You have an uncanny ability to work your way out of sticky situations using your talent with words. Crossword puzzles, debates — you're particularly well equipped to come out on top since you can read people well.
Like Charles Dickens, your verbal skills go far beyond having a good vocabulary. Dickens' genius was in the artful and descriptive way he crafted sentences. Also Dickensian, is your keen eye for detail and your adeptness for identifying the best way to express an idea based on your given surroundings and circumstances.
Your ability to communicate your vision clearly will take you far. So enjoy being perceptive, and make the most of your abilities as an insightful linguist. -
My result:
Insightful linguist
Your IQ Score is: 131
You are gifted with the natural fluency of a writer and the visual and spatial strengths of an artist. Those skills contribute to your creative and expressive mind.
(for longer description, read above post) -
Does it matter I've had three glasses of Australian Merlot?
132 "Insightful Linguist". I think I've done this one before or one like it.
What are the chances really that with those numbers being in the top percentile everyone here has an IQ above 120? lol
It is interesting how they gave the same scores different labels. -
-
hmmm, mine was 136.. was 129 two years ago, maybe all the html stuff I have been doing is helping improve my brain power!

Visionary Philosopher
Your IQ Score is: 131
Your mind's strengths allow you to think ahead of the game — to imagine or anticipate what should come next in just about any situation. Because you're equally skilled in the numerical and verbal universes of the brain, you can draw from multiple sources of information to come up with great ideas. The timelessness of your vision and the balance between your various skills are what make you a Visionary Philosopher.
In addition to your strengths in math and linguistics, you have a knack for matching and anticipating patterns. These skills and your uncanny ability to detect the underlying blueprint of most of life's situations add to your Visionary Philosopher mind. Two philosophers who share the same combination of skills you possess are Plato and Benedict Spinoza. Spinoza had insight into how things worked in the world. He could envision a future based on the patterns he saw in life, and used mathematical logic as a structure within which to present his philosophical arguments. With that base he was able to use logic to formulate his theories. Borrowing from his linguistic strengths he wrote eloquent texts and, therefore, was able to bring his philosophical ideas and structure to the rest of the world. His story exemplifies the talents that are present in the Visionary Philosopher intellectual type.
Whatever you decide to do in life, you've got a powerful mix of skills and insight that can be applied in a wide variety of ways. You can expand your mind to understand a situation. Your strong balance of math and verbal skills will help you explain things to others. For example, if you were on an archaeological dig and discovered an object, you could probably use your deductive powers to figure out not only what the object was but also how it was used. Given your ability to put things together, you are more than capable of inventing a life plan that is in synch with your perspective on how things were, how they are, and how they might be one day. -

When I read that someone was a visionary philosopher, I was pretty sure that would be me. At one point many years ago I took a similar test and it said I was a "visual mathematician." I find this kind of stuff really interesting. Thanks, Timethief! -
It really interesting test. I enjoyed doing the test though there were some very hard and confusing moments. My result:
Precision Processor
Your IQ Score is: 129
You've got a very experiential way of learning and a strong mathematical mind. You're able to whittle even the most complex situation down to comprehensible component parts. In short, you have mastered the art and science of precision. That's what makes you a Precision Processor.
For you, life is a series of equations. Your brain is naturally predisposed to intense mathematical acuity, and your understanding of numerical problems is unparalleled. It's second nature for you to cut to the heart of an issue, so that you can discover quick solutions to problems while others get bogged down in unnecessary details. One Precision Processor that comes to mind is the Greek philosopher-mathematician, Pythagoras. Pythagoras had a mind for numbers and, as such, could come up with previously unknown theories like his method for calculating the sides of a right triangle (a2+b2=c2). You too, can use numbers to translate aspects of the world around you — something that doesn't come easily to everyone. Your quick mathematical mind will allow you to communicate a variety of ideas to other people, so don't keep it to yourself.
Precision Processors can apply their mathematical skills to any situation involving numbers. That's a talent that will come in handy for everything from the workplace to splitting a bill 12 ways to converting foreign currency in your head. Others often look to you to do the math and luckily, you're well equipped. -

I don't find it difficult at all.
The vast majority of the people who participate in this forum are highly intelligent and literate. You have only to read what and how they write to see this. Although I am philosophically and politically at odds with a certain number of them, I quite willingly concede to their intelligence.
How long do you think someone with a significantly lower IQ would last around here? Not because we would run them out, but because they would lose interest when they found it difficult to participate in the discussions. I know that when I go into a forum that is over my head (and there are plenty of those around!) I eventually lose interest and move on to places that operate at my level.
So I find it entirely believable that the average IQ on this forum is above 130...notice there are few over 150 or below 120? I'd say that approximates a bell curve pretty darn well. -
I'd be inclined to give it the benefit of the doubt if the range was one or maybe into the low two SD's, But three. not very likely.
Also, you are considering verbal argument as an indicator of intelligence, and although it may be an indicator, to go by written communication like a forum is misleading at best since it does not take time into consideration. To measure verbal argument and reasoning into intelligence, time is of the essence. Building an argument from 10 blogs and Wikipedia takes tenacity, not intelligence.
Now, what do you think is more likely, I'll give you three possibilities that i think are relevant to consider here.
1. Tickle, forces you to sign up. and they will never ever seize in spamming your email.
Now, since they are in business to get people to sign up for their test, do you think they are more likely to give people a few happy points. So that they will send it on to their friends?
2. Inferiority Complex
As soon as one person mentions an IQ score, chances that people will tell the truth if their score is significantly lower is remote. (I'll try to find the research on this, but the on average, the lie is 90% of the difference. X claims they have 150, Y knows his score is 100 = Y will say "I have 145."
And the result is negatively proportional to their initial relationship to the person. If Y hates X, Y will claim a higher IQ than X in more than 95% of the time.
3. We have the top 1% - 2% of the world represented in this forum.
I'll just apply Occam's Razor to that one. -
SweetViolet is correct in that more intelligent people are more likely to hang around on the Interwebs. It is actually not surprising that one thin end of the bell curve would end up on forums. Still, to be generous you'd expect two or even three times the expected average of high IQs to end up on the same spot, so to have this many IQs in the upper 98th percentile is highly unrealistic. Secondly, blogcatalog forums are fun and don't really flex the brain muscle. Unless of course it's Urikalesh's blog:
urikalish.blogspot.com/
Now, I quickly counted 26 IQ scores, with an average of 137,5 (may have skipped one or two). Judging by the rarity of high IQs from the Wikipedia High IQ society page, I don't think the Trickle test scores are very realistic:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_IQ_society
Even given that more intelligent folk are more likely to end up hanging out online, you could expect the IQ scores to be around a 120 average.
I agree with Csiunatc, Trickle may have vested interests so they give a few bonus IQ points. However, the nature of the test is very similar to other IQ tests I have done (unfortunately I don't know my score, so I don't know how it compares with the Trickle score). I don't think the Trickle test in itself is inaccurate or biased, but the self-esteem factor might dictate that some folk could cheat and nobody would know (Google is your friend?).
Anok also got different scores for the same answers, which seem to indicate to me that the Trickle test also takes the time factor into consideration. I'd think it's a good test that has been doctored a little.
Building an argument from 10 blogs and Wikipedia takes tenacity, not intelligence.
If you consider that intelligence is defined as problem solving, and building an argument is a kind of problem solving, then building an argument does take more than tenacity. What would the difference be between intelligence and tenacity? Time? Efficiency? Accuracy? Completeness?
An IQ test is an attempt to measure general intelligence. Someone who scores high on an IQ test is agile and not necessarily intelligent in the number crunching sense. In fact, there are comparatively few number problems in any standard IQ test that I can recall. However, if you were intelligent you would score comparatively high on any intelligence measure. Not quite as high as Trickle would like though
-
I expect there's also a selection bias in those who are willing to go through 8 pages of puzzles. If you're good at answering those types of questions and solving those problems, you're more likely to think it's fun, or at least not get frustrated. I know there are plenty of quizzes I've quit half way through because they're just not fun, and there are other ways I'd rather spend my time. We also only have scores that were reported. People might not report scores that they feel are lower than those reported here.
-

How is that possibly selection bias? Selection bias is an error in choosing the individuals or groups to take part in a study. You volunteer to do the test. It's not like Tickle only recruited certain individuals to make their test scores impressive.
That's like saying the Olympics has selection bias towards couch potatoes who failed to qualify. It doesn't. -
...I maintain that one of the reasons we see higher numbers here is that people who do poorly on these sorts of tests are more likely to get frustrated and quit rather than complete them.
So the test rather tests tenacity than intelligence? That's a possibility. A real IQ test setting would account for this. To determine your IQ, usually an average of 3 tests is used. This is to prevent off days and indigestion from interfering with your score.
The intention of this thread was to start a pissing contest. You know, 'my dad is bigger than yours'. 'My IQ is higher than yours', etc. You're right, with this kind of thing you could expect lots of inflated scores and lots of neglected scores.
But it's good fun. -

Ummm no starting a pissing contest was NOT my intention. Due to my recent head injury (concussion) I'm being IQ tested and getting neuro psych testing done too. I thought this quiz might be a weekend fun thing that we would enjoy, that's all.

Visual Mathematician
Your IQ Score is: 118
You have a strong ability to process visual-spatial and mathematical information. These skills combined with your strengths in logic are what make you a Visual Mathematician.
You're able to understand patterns visually and in numbers. That means your mind can create a mental picture for any problem. In addition to that skill, you possess an intelligence that allows you to apply math to that picture, too. That helps you manipulate multiple parts of the picture (or problem) to come up with a solution. You have many skills that are critical to success and problem-solving. Your talents help you understand the "big picture," which is partly why people may turn to you for direction — especially in the workplace. You flourish in environments where tasks are clearly defined, and you are a whiz at improving processes and making things more efficient. Your ability to detect patterns and your skills in math and logic, make it natural for you to come up with ideas and theories that simplify processes for everyone.
Outside of work, Visual Mathematicians tend to do well at strategic activities like chess. It must be that ability to recognize patterns — both as they are and how they develop. Regardless of how you put your mind to use, you've got a great set of talents. You will be able to envision a clear path and calculate the risks, and more importantly, the rewards, of anything you take on.

I can't be too smart, I just signed up for a tickle account that I will probably never use. I had to find my score because I was curios (Since I'm not a cat, it's not dangerous). I scored a 135 but I still feel tricked.
-
-
I took this test back when I first started blogging, scored a 142, and even put a badge up about it in my blog...but then I got feedback that folks thought I was being a conceited jerk showing that off so I took it down.
The one question I can never get is the one with the dots moving around the 4 x4 grid. I've no idea what the relation is between the images they show. I'm guessing I always get that wrong. -
-
That depends on which test they used. This chart is for the Stanford-Binet IQ test, in which it is unlikely to score above 140. Really, really unlikely.
For other kinds of tests, it is more likely to score higher. The test scales are also regularly adjusted so that the means remain around 100 (because it is the point of having a means). It could be that you took the test prior to adjustment, thus scoring higher, then took it again after adjustment, thus scoring lower.
It could also be that the Tickle test uses data which is in public domain, and thus expired or no longer valid, which would also explain it's clear inaccuracy.
But it's still fun. -
You can have one done by Mensa.

I'm going to take one at some point too, because I was never told my score and I'm curious.

i don't know if this is accurate but IQ tests are usually timed...so...i dunno.
but hey, my score is lower compared with the previous test i had, but they both had the same result of me being good with visual-spatial stuff. -
Three things make me suspicious of this test:
-The clumping here: if this test is accurate, then virtually everyone who has taken the test in this forum falls within a very narrow band at the high end of the population.
-Inconsistency with prior results: I've taken two "official" IQ tests, more than twenty years apart, and the scores were consistent to within 1 point...this test puts me more than twenty points lower (and in the same narrow band with the rest of the scores reported here)
-Number of questions: Each skill is tested with just a couple of questions, which creates a huge margin for error on subscores based on subject matter, misreading, etc.-
Ah, I think they use a Bayesian inference system (or something similar). This would explain both the clumping and the inconsistency with prior results.
Your IQ supposedly changes very little over your lifespan, so I would trust those 2 official IQ tests.
The number of questions isn't really an issue. The test itself is actually a real IQ test that has fallen into public domain. -
Because.. the test itself was a real IQ test that fell into public domain. As such, it had the right amount of questions and they were weighted correctly across the spectrum to test the main areas of intelligence in verbal and non-verbal ways.
There's nothing wrong with that test, the errors come in with how they calculate your score.
