Just because people are black doesn't mean they are poor.

Just because people are black doesn't mean they stink.

Just because people are black doesn't mean...

You finish that sentence.

Post here what you think about racism.

Thanks

Just because I am Asian, doesn't mean I have an accent. I don't. In fact, my English is probably better than yours.

Just because I am Asian, doesn't mean I eat dog. Except for yours. I am coming after it while you sleep.

Just because I am Asian doesn't mean I am good at science. I am, but not because I am Asian. I am good at it because I am just really smart that way.

Just because I am Asian doesn't mean I am a bad driver. None of the accidents I have been involved in have been found to be my fault. The judge said so.

I got to stillthinking about it
    2. becthomasphotograp
Ok what is the story about eating rat? Is that an Asian thing or only a part of Asia thing?
    3. Stillthinking
I have never heard of that. I think its a poverty thing.
    4. archiegottlieb
i second all of them, except the driving part. i don't drive. although i fancy myself an excellent driver.
    5. Stillthinking
I gave up driving because I am a city dweller. Excellent public transportation plus an excellent bicycle means freedom from car payments, insurance premiums, and gasoline stops.

doesnt mean they cant have a better and decent life.

For the record, I'm Hong Kongneese ... But i go to international school, So i speak perfect "american accented" english
    1. becthomasphotograp
umm what does that sound like exactly? Since there isn't just 1 American accent but 5 destinct accents and a bunch of sub accents.
    2. Onchong
Just because you go to international school does not mean that you know the rules in capitalization of nouns and the proper use of punctuations.
    3. Stillthinking
I think he is referring to Midwestern flat, English that most newscasters speak with.

Being a Midwestern girl, that is also how I speak.
    4. archiegottlieb
i don't think we can designate a specific regional accent as the standard. in america, i feel that class and education, not region, are markers of a neutral american accent. to be honest, i'm not sure.

i don't know about the uk, but i would guess that the situation is reversed. any uk citizens care to comment?
    5. Stillthinking
Oh I also forgot to mention, I have a neutral accent because of my years of acting and public speaking training.

Just because people aren't black doesn't mean they are racist.
    1. codesucker
      thank you
    2. Stillthinking
But asking a born and raised American girl who happens to Asian if she eats rat doesn't help your claim.

just because people are white, doesn't mean they live in trailer.

Just because they live in a trailer, doesn't mean they are trash.

Evidence of racial discrimination is hardly contestable, but it is also evident that social class is the basis for discrimination. Poverty and social deprivation, while not confined to colored people, has served to create a contemptuous stereotype, based on race, which actually does deprive people of their human qualities, not only in the eyes of the dominant culture, but also in their own eyes.

Just because people are white doesn't mean they are republican

And just because someone is republican doesn't mean they are racist.. well ok maybe
    1. Stillthinking
There are black Republicans and weirdly enough, there are also gay Republicans. One can only presume both of these minorities in the Republican party also suffer from masochistic tendencies.

I am no saint.. I surely am prejudiced against certain people, but I do make an effort not to let it come in the way and make an effort not to judge individuals by their race or other criterion and get to know people better..

that said, my so called prejudice isn't a big issue or harmful but I do condemn racism as a whole..

ps: no Britney promotion in the OP? I am surprised

Prejudice and racism is not a skin thing it is a heart thing.

Your post would seem to indicate that only black people are the target of racism, and that is far from the truth.

ALL races (including white people) can be targets of racism. Furthermore, inferiority myths exist based on other characteristics such as gender, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, religion, ethnic background, and place of origin. Even one's hair colour or physical characteristics can give rise to prejudicial beliefs and behaviour on the part of others.

Fat people are not lazy slobs
    Blondes are not stupid
Redheads do not have bad tempers
    Muslims are not terrorists
    Beautiful women are not manipulative
    Jews are not greedy
    Women are not bad drivers
    Italians do not smell bad
    Disabled people are not invisible
    White people are not racists
    Old people are not expendable

Now, sometimes there will be an overlap of facts and you will find a Muslim who is also a terrorist or a blonde with the IQ of a grapefruit, but the two characteristics are not inevitably linked and therefore you cannot, if you observe one, presume the other also exists. I live in a town so full of Muslims that most of our fast food restaurants are certified halaal...the vast majority of the Muslims I meet are the nicest people you would ever want to know! And I'm a blonde and was blessed with a fairly generous IQ.

Stereotypes, which lead to biases like racism, are for the mentally lazy. People who actually take the time to think, realize that such things as stereotypes and prejudice are both ethically and intellectually bankrupt and don't engage in them.
    1. legendarytoby
Fine... Well, it was just a example.

Just because people are black doesn't mean... they can't be as racist as white people.
    1. scenexg
      Pretty much.

I know so many people that say "white people" this and that.

Plenty darker groups, whether they are Latino, or black, etc. have it inset in their minds that white people look at them as inferior, so they become preemptive racists, in a sense.
    2. Timesobserver
That's a very good point, Scenexg. It's amazing, and sad, how one form of racism creates another form.
    3. scenexg
Yeah its crazy, indeed. But, it's a prejudice reaction to fear really. The cognitive level of perceived threat by other races leads to the ignorance. 2 wrongs don't make a right.
  14. ToughCookieMommy
    Racism is wrong and ignorant.
  15. neo1962
I don't only hate blacks, I hate every color.. including my own, white. They are all destroying the earth and being brainwashed by the government.
    1. scenexg
Hating people in general is ignorant, and I'd assume you know that since I just saw a thread about you craving intellectual info.

Are you a communist? I'm just curious.

Also, do you hate yourself? And if not, what are you doing that eliminates you from the "destroyers" and how many times has the government washed your brain? Which liquid fabric softener is your favorite?
    2. Funkkeejooce
      Hate is a strong word.

Racism is born out of ignorance.

You can only be brainwashed if you don't have a mind of your own.
    3. brooklynposh
I hate people in general. I don't consider myself a racist.

and to finish that sentence.. Just because I am black does not mean I can not speak Russian.
