    Both

Listening can be cool if the book is read with different voices and background sounds...

I actually like to listen to the NIV dramatized audio bible. I drive a lot for work and at one point took on the challenge to listen to the whole bible in 90 days or less. I was amazed at how easy it was to do.

hmm I just might have to give that a try j.

It was a good experience. You can also find free audio versions online. Here's one..

I prefer reading because audio books are usually abridged...though I do enjoy listening to radio drama and readings on BBC Radio 4.

Reading for as long as I possibly can - until my eyesight goes - and then --- I will take advantage of the audios.

I prefer my mind's imagination to the sound of someone else's voice.

i hardly think that it impairs your imagination, unless you you have a short term memory

Aye - but that is the burden of one with ADHD - if there is something else to capture the imagination, a voice holds no bars.

Whereas the eyes are moving when reading and the mind is captured with the vivid colors it paints.

I spend a lot of time driving around town for work, sometimes 100 miles or more, because of that I tried an audio book. The Kite Runner to be specific.

It was fine, but each night when I returned home I picked up the book to keep up with where I was on the CD's.

    I prefer reading.

For boring non-fictional content, I choose audio book instead. It is good way to spend time while waiting for traffic light to turn green or wait for some granny to cross the road...

I have always been a slow reader but I do both.

I read the Bible, books on motivation, inspiring stores, books on humor, some poetry and history.

I use to drive a lot so I listened but now I read more than I listen.
When I find a book that really grabs me I read it faster than a book that doesn't.

you definitely should read some max lacado,if you like reading inspiring books

I like to read, grisham, mary higgans clark, and of coarse a cheesy romance here and there!

as much as I'm into politics,I don't read many books on them, unless it's like a book on lincoln,or something that has to do with history!

I would rather read but it is a challenge to make time. I do spend a couple hours in the car each day. Listening to audio books there is better than nothing.

I like the audiobook rather than reading. (^_^)

I love to read, but certain authors I prefer the audiobook.

I love Jon Krakauer audiobooks and David Sedaris on audio.

I would rather read since it improves your brainpower

I used to hate to read in school, but now i look forward to it

And i can actually spell better now because of it LOL

      @keifer

I know what you mean. I never read while in school. I always made up stories, and told them to my cousins,we would all do that, but since I hit my 20's I always read!!!!!

I wish now I would have started younger,I'm sure I missed a lot of good books!

I get too impatient with audio books - I read really quickly and find out what happens a lot faster if I read.
    1. Stillthinking
I feel that way a lot of the time, but certain authors read their own work really beautifully. David Sedaris writes comic essays about his life. When he reads his work, it's so much richer and funnier.
    2. jflower36
I agree stillthinking. Some audio books carry more debth when they are read by the author.

The problem is the lack of images : a trading audio book without charts ...

It all goes to whether you are an auditory learners or visual learners. Thus audio books or hardcopy books is a question that suits your learning style. Both are equally good in my opinion as they triggrs the senses we have. More exposure the better.

I often, well almost always, am reading three or four books at a time.
This thread made me think about the fact that it would be much easier to soak in the info if I were maybe reading only 1 or 2 and listening to 1 or 2.

Both. I read a lot, but love audiobooks in the car during my commute. It keeps my mind off the frustrations of traffic.

I also put a few audiobooks on my iPod, so I can listen to them before I go to bed. Really helps me wind down.

I love P.G. Wodehouse on audiobook. I also have Harry Potter, a Terry Pratchett, and a few Martha Grimes novels I found inexpensively.
