On BC avatars, do you prefer a persons actual pic or a different avatar that may portray something of their personality?

And why?

    it's their choice right?

    hb~
I dont mind what someone uses

Well, I prefer reality, obviously Actually, I don't prefer one over the other, I do sometimes have a hard time figuring out what some of them are tho. I wish there was a way to enlarge them for a better view.

I agree with the size thing. Some are too small to see and it'd be nice to know what they are.
    2. JayNeely
In addition to the size, BlogCatalog's 3 resolutions don't scale right, so what looks good at at least one size will look bad in one to two others.

If everyone were to do the same thing, I'd prefer a face. Since not, I still do like to see a face more than an icon, but like interesting/meaningful icons too.

      but...yours isn't a face .... I do like yours tho, it's cute.
    2. JayNeely
Thanks. Since not everyone's using faces, it made more sense to go with something that would get attention, I thought.

whatever makes the person happy i guess...i really don't have a preference
  5. howisbradley
I guess I should throw my two cents in. Yes, it's peoples personal preference, but I was curious what others thought. Does it make a difference on who's profile you might click on? That can make a big difference for someone trying to increase traffic.

As for me. I like to switch back and forth between this one and a cute PePe Le Pew one I use in other forums, but I think he'd be too small here.

Cartoon works for me. I come across extremely serious in reality - Nards

I find it disconcerting to have some weird avatar for an adult. I don't mind avatars in general it's just some of them are strange. It is easier to post comments to a face, but not necessary.

I used to use my real pic but Chelle, the offended blogger kept kissing the monitor. Now she just sits there and sas' ohrrr cute panda'

As far as who's profile I view, avatars don't make a difference to me. I usually view profiles when someone says something that catches my attention in the discussions.

Mine is both - it's from a collage I made out of high-contrast photos of me & my cat. You can see a beautiful enlargement of it my Zimbio site. If you do you'll probably be the first person to actually hit Zimbio for me (more on that another time).

I don't care if your* avatar is photo or illustration, but I would like to see a picture of you* somewhere on your blog. Also please tell me who are and where you're from. It's disappointing to click on "view my complete profile" etc. and find .... nothing.

*I'm using "you" in the general sense, of course.

I generally like seeing people's faces for their avatars. It makes BC more personal and not feeling like I'm talking to a bunch of cartoons out there in cyberspace.

    Some avatars are cute though!

I used my real face for an avatar, but really got sick of seeing myself, so I switched to a cartoon one, just recently in fact.

Well I guess I'm one of the lucky few who has a real face (Thank God haven't altered anything yet from my face) and at the same time, I'm cute and silly (ahem!) hahahaha!

I tried to change the other day, Robert noticed, but I think I was used to seeing this one so I switch back.
    1. focusorganic
I noticed your change, too. I like this one better than the other one.

    real face, moo
    1. howisbradley
      You're hot!
  15. xtrangebrew
I like the one that describes wot your blog is all about.. Too bad mine's too small that's why no one seems to care.

    exchange strange!

Try using the Silkscreen font. You might be able to fit 3-4 short words in the space.
  16. balidreamhome
this are my real look and I only have one face to show you anyway :-)
  17. ThriftShopRomantic
Silly avatar. But my real face, yes.
    1. Anniepooh
I was going to say the same about myself...
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
Heh- that's hysterical! PS your avatar isn't silly- it's a nice pic-- you just have a small, blonde laughing child attached to your face.

Sorta like Drowsey's avatar, but less rubbery.
  18. polybore
A face like mine is better kept under wraps.
  19. pointlessbanter
    why can't you have both?
  20. Daudleikr
Real face. ^_~ mine is a picture of me that a friend made. I think I might be a little bit more tanned though.
  21. Anok
I have no preference, avatars don't really do much other than helping me distinguish one member from another. I click on blogs when the member has said something that piques my interest!
  22. clioandme
Who cares? I started with the "silly avatar" because I don't have a real face, um, I mean suitable digital picture. Kinda got used to it now.
    1. howisbradley
I care. It keeps me up some nights.
  23. Lucyvp
For me, cute cartoon, for others, I don't mind, but it's good when it's memorable.
  24. olgatravelingbra
Ain't nuthin' like the real thing baby....
  25. GarthOBrien
I started with a pic of my fav G.I. Joe toon Stormshadow. No one wanted to be my friend. Then I uploaded my real pic and now I have a BC harem.
  26. posterdistrict
    I am a smoking bunny
  27. n8
I don't mind myself. As long as it's clever or cool looking.

Mine is an actual picture of me that I turned into colored vector art with Flash quite some time ago.
  28. Kham
I like faces. Adds that personal touch to it.
  29. amtelemarket
As Lucyvp said, whatever is memorable. For me I use a movie character.
  30. roentarre
I am too ugly. An artistic avatar is better
