Handmade products are unique. Do you really want the same scarf, mug, earrings, necklace or other item that 20,000 other people have?

! Handmade items are always unique, even if they are the same type of product because they are not made by machines they are crafted by human beings so each piece will have it's own unique characteristics.

William Morris thought that mass-producing goods both exploited the workers AND disappointed the final clients. Along an assembly line, where everybody added a different element to the final widget, no individual worker was responsible for the end product; no worker cared about the widgets’ beauty or creativity since the widgets were about to go off to distant, impersonal markets. The best you could say about mass produced goods was that they were cheap.
Like everyone here has said, handmade clothes, hats, soaps, candles, creams, cushions, bed throws, jewellery, woodwork, glass pieces, brass pieces and many other items are more special, more creative, more useful for the buyer because they were made with individuality. The worst you can say about handmade goods is that they tend to be more expensive.
William Morris was a great writer. The Arts and Crafts movement was spot on, but alas his artists and craftsmen tended to price themselves out of the market.
